"Armor piercing" ammunition is not some sort of magical laser. It's designed to increase the force on a specific point, making armor less effective. A force cage, or 'shield', is designed to do the opposite of that. If someone is firing 45.ACP ammunition (common handgun rounds), then if someone had a sufficiently hardened shield they could block it.
