Theory Star-spiders: Why does their reputation precede them?

Maybe the more points they have for their star the more venomous they are-like smaller scorpions?

 

But, it also kind of irritated me how they brought them up, but then sort of dropped it (though, I'll wait until the Season is over before I complain) since I think/hope they will be revisited in a future episode.

Spike was trembling because of how creepy the castle was.  He didn't even seem to notice the spiders.  I know, because I just double checked that scene.

 

As for the bad rep, I think they'll be tied into the Pony of Shadows.  If Posh* is indeed the season 4 villain, she'll probably be responsible for nefarious things in the past.
