Rush is amazing. Even better than amazing when you take into account the fact that they're only 3 people and can replicate their songs perfectly live.

Album: Moving Pictures (1981)

Artist: Rush

Best known, best, or most inventive song(s) off of album: Tom Sawyer, Limelight

Genre: Progressive Rosk

Antichrist Superstar (1996)
Marilyn Manson
"Beautiful People", "Antichrist Superstar"
Industrial Metal, Noise Rock

Possibly the single most important CD of the decade; a true masterpiece if ever there was one. There is barely a weak song on the entire album, and it manages to tell a complete story without beating you over the head with it. While I'm not one of those who say Manson sold out or lost his edge over the years, I still can't honestly say that he ever topped this album. But I'll always pick up his next just to hear him try. Culturally, I think you're right that Antichrist Superstar was the most important album of that decade, but I still think that Nevermind had more of an impact on the popular music since the 90's.

Gorillaz

Alternative

Not single tracks but if you listen at the Album as a whole it's amazing

American Idiot(2004)

Punk/Rock

Iam a huge fan of concept albums and the album as a whole is even greater than listening to the songs alone.

If you like this kind of music the Album is great and it was one of the first albums I bought and actually liked every single song

If there is one thing I like about the Peppers, it's how you can listen the whole album and loose yourself totally in the music. Also this album is huge with 28 tracks

American Idiot (2004)

Weezer (The Blue Album) (1994)

Weezer

Alternative

American Idiot. Great choice. Hugely influential politically.

Weezer. I'm gonna have to call you out on this by submitting another album.

Pinkerton (1996)

Weezer

"El Scorcho", "Tired of Sex", "Across the Sea"

Alt. Rock/Emo

If you're gonna call a Weezer album, it has to be Pinkerton. The music is a lot better on this album than their others; much more poetic, less "radio friendly." It's also somewhat based off of the opera Madame Butterfly, and that's pretty cool.

Lateralus (2001)

Tool

Schism, Parabola, Ticks & Leeches, Lateralus

Progressive Rock

Oh man, I love this album! "Lateralus" might be one of the best rock songs of all time. Beautiful and really intelligent. They're the band that most chill high school math teachers listen to.

Now that you say that I got to admit that "Pinkerton" has great tracks on it but I chose their first album because I own a copy of it and listened to it many times. I like the songs on Pinkerton but I never listened through the whole album because I don't own it(yet) ;)

I have a HUGE Cd collection btw :)

You gotta get Pinkerton. It's really one of the only good emo albums out there.

But seriously my Algebra teacher in 8th grade taught us a lesson based entirely on "Lateralus". You could probably guess what it was about.

Grunge

My all time favorite live-album. Every song on it is just great and they made the songs they covered even better :)

EARL (2010)

Earl Sweatshirt

Hip-hop/Rap

One of the most interesting and stand-out rap albums of the last decade (imo). I am NOT a fan of the other members of the collective known as Odd Future Wolf Gang, but Earl is really quite interesting. The content of the album is quite dark, lyrics involve murder, rape and drug use (he was also only 16 when he came up with them!) but his clever wordplay and flow are what really got me hooked.

WARNING: NSFW lyrics

YES. YES.

Album: City (1997)

Artist:Strapping Young Lad

Notable Songs: Velvet Kevorkian/All Hail The New Flesh, Oh My F***ing God, Detox

Genre: Industrial Thrash

This is a very aggressive album. Aggressive, angry and pure. The beauty about this album is that for it's time, it was beyond innovative. It had hit a nerve in the extreme metal community and has been hailed as one of the greatest Industrial Metal albums in the public

IMO, the GREATEST metal album of 1997.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok, so Pony Joe took Abbey Road... so here's another.

Rubber Soul (1965)

The Beatles

I think all of them are very memorable and amazing.

Folk Rock

Probably one of The Beatles best album of all... It's between Rubber Soul and Abbey Road. Well, anyway... Voted #5 on Rolling Stone's list of "500 Best Albums of all Time." The music in this album is just so soothing for your soul... Which, makes the title sound very ironic... The 14 tracks on this album are simply some of the best works of The Beatles, in my opinion... Like I said, it's either this or Abbey Road...

Vulgar Display of Power(1992)

Pantera

Walk, No Good(Attack the Radical), Mouth for War

Metal

This album really shows how much control can be used in metal while still maintaining that level of aggressiveness.

You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having(2005)

Atmosphere

Smart Went Crazy, Get Fly, The Arrival

Independent Hippity-Hop

This album got me to start listening to rap music. I'd say that's a pretty big accomplishment.
