Oh hi... ...if that's alright with you...

Hey there, my name's Stephen and I live in Orem Utah. Earlier this month I attended Crystal Mountain Pony Con in Salt Lake City with mixed results. I really enjoyed being around the brony community and seeing the love everyone has for the show, but I am naturally shy in crowded situations and have a hard time assimilating myself into a group, so I spent the convention largely on my own and felt I missed out on a large part of the experience.

Now to the matter at hand: I am considering making the trek up to Seaddle and attending Everfree, however I am worried about a repeat of my lat pony con. I guess what I'm asking for is some pointers to help if I decide to come, and maybe some encouragement to help sway my decision to come. I've been a brony for a little over a year and really want to have the chance to enjoy a con and get everything I can out of it.

Let me say that Everfree Northwest is an amazing convention. They already got through their first year, and they're back again for their second this year--which is big hurdle many first year pony cons do not clear. I am on the staff, and let me say that everyone is working their flanks off to make this convention amazing. As I said, EFNW made it through their first year, and though there were some bumps, nothing caught on fire and most people had a pretty good con. I'm just going to say that Everfree was awesome last year, and is going to hopefully be so much more awesome this year as well. Keep in mind that just because you had a bad experience at one convention, doesn't mean that every convention is like that. I'm sorry Crystal Mountain Pony Con didn't work out like you'd hoped, but I can almost guarantee that you'll have a good time at Everfree.

Thank you for the advice. I'm still not sure if I will be able to come, but I will keep an eye on the planned events and maybe I'll discover my niche in the next month or two. :D

I can understand the shyness issues, I have some myself... so here's a suggestion: get a good camera, the sort where you wear it on a strap around your neck. Go up to people in cosplay and ask them to pose so you can get a good photo of them. This will help break the ice, and give you practice talking to strangers to see that they're usually nice people.

I'm also in the staff (part of how I'm overcoming my own shyness issues) and I'm working on a guide specifically for out-of-towners about other stuff in Seattle worth visiting while you're in the area.
