Since it involves taking a pony home for life basically, a pony to suit my lifestyle would be the proper choice.

 

I'd want a pony that is a geek and/or loves to think about stuff and be creative. Either Twilight Sparkle or the fan-canon of Princess Luna (that she likes to game).
