RippedOffMattress 314
While I HIGHLY respect classical music, and for the fact that it can be really amazing at times, it's not really my kind of music to listen to most of the times. Hearing snippets of classical in shitty commercials or throw-away jokes over and over's really thrown me off and it just seems really cheesy a lot of the times. Also, it almost feels like the same song over and over. I think because I've just been digging into so many different genres and sounds and loving nearly them all, there's just other music out there more sonically interesting. Courageous Thunder Dash 7,784
Maybe because people generalize way too much. Not all classical music is weak you know (in terms of intensity).

Scootaloodle 1,621
I think it’s as simple as not everyone shares the same taste in music: Tons of people have certain styles that they like and listen to a lot etc: and others have different ones, what music appeals to some wont appeal to others.

verycreativeusername 1,800
Because they want to be "cool" or they just plain hate it. But the worse part is if someone who hates people who likes classical music because of their musical taste. I like classical music. I sometimes listen to it, but not always. Frosty Flurry 173
fianally some one whp shares my pain! I don't get it. apparently it's boring but it's better than miley cyrus s#!t. Just saying it's actually pretty good.
Fluttershyfan94 5,719
Don't know, I like all music but I guess it might be that they just think it's a little lame. People might be trying to fit in, of course it depends though I think people don't hate the genre it's just that sometimes different music is good for different occasions and if you're having a party you wouldn't really play classical music. But then there are times were classical music is nice, so it depends on the occasion.
Inactive01 5,294
The biggest reason is that since classical music isn't "popular" and "simple" like Miley Cyrus or One Direction is, that it's considered outdated and boring. I don't blame them. J. S. Bach's music was largely under-appreciated until the 19th century because most of his contemporaries said that his music was complicated and too difficult to listen to. That being said, I still find that excuse a terrible one.
SolaceFall 21,279
Well to be honest with you a lot of people I know of love classical music as do I. Depending on what type of classical music it is I really enjoy it. Classical music to me is like the foundation to music and a lot of classical music that I have listened to is quite enjoyable and relaxing. Maybe the people you are around a lot just do not have good tastes in music? That could be possibility I would just listen to it with your headphones on to avoid any troubles with others. Dr. Mechano 629
I enjoy classical music. I think it just seems unpopular because, by definition, there's not going to be any "new" classical music for fans to get excited over. Everything that we consider classical music already exists. With that said, Camille Saint-Saëns is one of my favorite classical composers. In light of this topic, I'll share an example of his work, Dans Macrabe, for my fellow classical music fans:
Zygen 6,062
Well i'm sure part of it is due to taste, as everyone has different tastes. I think also the fact that Classical music is typically more lengthy then other genres that are popular now a days plays into it partly. But i don't hate it, in fact i like a good bit of it. I'm also in band(I play trumpet) so i feel like as a musician myself I have some appreciation for some of it. More so then some others. But Classical music can be really awesome, and filled with all kinds of awesome emotions. Even though i more often play classical music in band or something along those lines then listen to it, i still think its good, its all personal preference I guess as with other genres and songs, but i like some of it. Its not my favorite genre, i mean my favorite genre is Rock, but I still like classical music and certainly don't hate it. I think its just a very different style in contrast to many of todays music, which may be the reason why many people seem to hate it. I don't know if i really "hate" any music though, music is such a beautiful thing to me, i can't really hate any of it really. I just like some of it more then others. Its all preference i guess.
Thrashy 2,798
Probably the same reason everyone has a hard time reading Shakespearean literature, i.e., the gradual dumbing down of our society. There's evidence of a correlation between complex music and intelligence, which is why people thought for a long time that making their kids listen to Mozart would make them smarter. The reality's kind of on the contrary - many intelligent people simply prefer to have their ears and minds challenged by the complex waveforms found in classical, orchestral, metal, and other technically intricate genres of music, but it doesn't make one smarter. In a society that likes to 'txt tlk' and listen to horribly predictable dance music (invariably metered in 4/4), it should come as no surprise that folks these days wouldn't be able to get into literature or music that makes their brains do actual work. Disclaimer - I'm not asserting that people who like complex music are always Einsteins, nor that those who like simplistic music are dumb by default. Just a speculation of mine about a very real correlation being a possible explanation as to why complex music has fallen out of favor with the mainstream. Untwist those panties. CT-1138 3,176
Classical music makes up the majority of our background music in movies and TV. A world without it would be very strange indeed. I for one LOVE classical music. There's noting better to do homework to than Beethoven or Vivaldi.
Tigerpop198 696
The opinions of music changes, just like world ideas. Everybody moved on from it onto new genres of music. I for one like classical music.
Hansel 1,510
Hi people from this beautiful forum I want to ask you this very simple question. Why people hate classical music? It's been strange why people hate to listen these kind of music, I tried to plug my iPod once to a big speaker and people curse saying, "You are listening to this Sh!t? You're a jerk" or "This sounds terrible, dub step please!" Or ETC . Why? I was very disappointed to the people we have to today. I am saying many but not all. So please answer this. I wanna know why The sad thing is, is that a great deal of modern music, particularly several genres within the EDM scene, as well as many sub-genres within Metal draw a great deal of influence from Baroque and Classical music, although largely unintentionally within the EDM scene. I listen a lot a lot of different types of modern music, including (but not limited to) various forms of Electronic music and Metal, but I also listen to Baroque, Classical, and the Romantics quite regularly. EDIT: Also, most people who claim that they hate Classical music (which I'm assuming also includes the Baroque and Romantic periods because they all get lumped together with Classical for one reason or another) have usually only listened to Mozart. Mozart is like, so overrated. *adjusts Hipster glasses* These people should listen to Bach. Bach is so God damn fucking hardcore. \m/ Edited December 24, 2013 by Hansel
Koelath 442
Quite frankly, if you're trying to hook your ipod into a big speaker, you are a bit of a jerk. Your taste isn't everyone's and assuming as much is bound to end poorly. That said, it's just kinda boring music. All sounds really samey and goes on for too long. And it makes me sleepy. But I enjoy it sometimes.
