To my utmost surprise, Metroid Prime has this unlockable where if you were to connect the game with Metroid Fusion, you can unlock NES Metroid which gets you to play the NES Metroid on the GameCube. Just wow.

Don't forget that also enable you to have the Fusion suit in Prime, it would even change to the correct colors depending on if you had the Varia/Gravity or not. It was a neat tie-in, but I think I only played with it for all of 10 minutes. I just love the classic Power Suit.

anyone made sequence breaks? those are finishing the game by skipping some normally mandatory powerups. The biggest sequence break I've ever made was in Zero Mission, were, if I remember well, skipped the long beam, high jump, varia suit, charge beam and maybe the ice beam, besides that, I skipped Imago, the giant bee in Ridley's lair (you can acquire the super missile in Brinstar). I want to try doing sequence breaks next time I play my favorite Metroid game: Metroid Prime

Like everyone else here, I'm a huge Metroid fan myself and have loved most of the metroid games in the series.

I wish I got into the Metroid series sooner. The first game I ever played was Metroid: Other M. I thought it was alright, but what I don't understand, is why does like everyone else who played it, call it terrible?? Did I miss somethin' due to havin' to play a game out of order, or is the game just generally bad??

The most troubling issue with Other M laid in it's poorly written story that retconned the acclaimed Prime trilogy and warping the entire Metroid timeline to fit it's egotistical creator's vision, a bit with the control scheme, and how linear it was compared to most metroid games. It's a fun game, just don't take a thought for it's story or especially try to fit it in the Metroid lore or you'll be enraged by the amount of character and continuity issues it caused like I' am :)

Say, something I wanted to bring up to talk about. More specifically about the Metroid fanbase/fandom. I'm still hearing about the fanbase having "endured a horrifying split after Other M's release". It's already been three and a half years and I'm still... puzzled... that this sort of thing might still be going on. But what do you guys think?

Given the comments already made in this thread, quite a few already know about Other M having been controversial to say the least and the main reason for the controversy is pretty well-understood; the writing/story. But do you guys also feel that the Metroid fanbase is still a smoldering, fragmented mess?

I think the fanbase has been in disarray ever since Prime even. The only thing is, the Primes are VERY good games and widely accepted to be very good even if it wasn't what people wanted in a Metroid.

Other M did the same thing but it's not considered nearly as good.

Personally my only issues with the game come with the use of the Wiimote and no option to use something else which would have been extremely viable if Wii developers, particularly Nintendo, weren't so stuck up their asses and wanting people to use the Wiimote in all circumstances.

Personally the Prime trilogy is among my favorite games, but I didn't have any issues with Other M either. I do agree that the controls could have been better though. But anyways, I think the fanbase has pretty much moved on and everybody is just altogether waiting for the next installment

Why have I not posted in this thread yet? :P

Metroid is probably one of my favorite game series. The only ones I haven't beaten are the first one(the beginning is dull and it seems easy to get lost, also it took me a long time before I got the first missile), and Prime Hunters(couldn't get into it).And pinball is just... pinball in general is boring.

I thought Other M was passable.(Screw the first person mode) and the controls were a little awkward. Also, the story was... ok.

Favorite is Super Metroid(Obviously) With Prime 1 being a close second.

I personally think Metroid 2 is underrated and I enjoyed it for what it was.(Screw the space jump, though. I always fall when I use it).

In some ways, I think Prime 2 is better than 1. I liked the atmosphere, and Sanctuary Fortress was a fucking awesome looking place with really upbeat, catchy music. Not to mention Quadraxis. Best boss in the game. He wasn't even that hard.

And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who is dying to know what happened after Fusion.

O.K, I think I've said enough.

Metroid is probably my favorite Nintendo legacy series, and Fusion is my favorite entry into the series! The Prime games are also amazing, and Other M is a steaming pile or worthlessness that should never have seen the light of day :D

Say, do you go to any Metroid forums? I remember hearing about how the fanbase is still split apart in the aftermath of Other M. Is this true from what you're seeing?

@ I don't really go to any Metroid forums personally, but from the conversations I've had on various gaming sites it wouldn't surprise me. To be fair, the "fanbase" of Metroid isn't really that large or cohesive, so take that with a grain of salt.

Personally, I'm wary of a Metroid fan who praises Other M. I usually concede that the gameplay isn't bad per say, but for anyone invested in the character of Samus her characterization in Other M is irreconcilable. As fun as the game was my nausea overpowered that and made the game unplayable for me.

On the forums I go to, it's just quiet but people get along to the point that it's been described as "peaceful". Though some have said that other communities are still a little heated up from the split.

Finally 100%ed Metroid Dread after 13 hours IGT

Mostly spoiler free review: Unironically the best Metroid game. This is coming from a long-time Metroid fan who's been waiting for Dread for 15 years. I'm willing to accept that this may at least partially be giddiness on account of actually finally getting to play the damn thing, but that doesn't change how cool the whole experience was. The movement was fast and fluid, and made getting from point A to point B really fun and satisfying, the bosses were very well designed, very difficult, and VERY satisfying to beat, the story was exhilarating, the action was intense, the collectible hunt at the end of the game has never been more fun, and honestly, it was literally everything I could've ever asked for out of a perfect Metroid game. I had high expectations from mercurysteam, especially after Samus Returns, and they blew those expectations out of the water. Phenomenal game, easy 10/10.
