Auditions are in manehattam at the college's recital hall on august 17th-23d."

This pamphlet has been smacked on nearly every messageboard in every town, small or big, to attract young talents for a college that strives to improve those talents, and bring the gifted ponies to a bloom. Many kinds of art can be learned at the college, but only a tiny selected group gets in every year.

Hello everypony and welcome to the very first forum-rp that I am going to GM. The idea of this RP is an adventure-romance storyline about a small group of talented artists that will enter the college for the exceptionally talented to improve their talents to the extent that they will become world renowned. It will be like a school-related RP as well, since Dexter will give assignments once in a while. It is up to YOU what you will create for those assignmemts. You could say that this is for CREATIVE MINDED people without any way to EXPRESS themselves, and this they can RP as if they could...

I'd like to see how interested people are in an RP like this. I am very excited about the idea myself, and I hope you guys are as well.

Almost any kimd of art is allowed, as long as I don't get more than 2 times the same. Your OC could be a fine sculptor, or architect, or perhaps a DJ or an amazingly talented singer... Anything is possible! It is the challenge during the RP to figure out a way to combine these different kinds of art to create something ground-breaking.

This RP might need some serious backround and OC care, since I will carefully select only the best OC's. Also the RPers themselves need to be fairly good at roleplaying to make this work, since this will really need some coöperative brainstorming and teamwork sometimes (for instance, try to make up an art project between an architect and a DJ... Oh I already have amazing ideas!).

Now first of all, I will be fulfilling 2 roles. The one of scribblegroove (http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/scribblegroove-r5437), a talented jazz muscician who will apply as well, and Dexter, the dean and mentor of all the students.

THE FOLLOWING RULES APPLY FOR THIS RP:

1: standard rules... No godmodding, no OP oc's, mary sues... (this counts for overly talented OC's as well... You have to be able to LEARN.)

2: I don't want any alicorn nonsense. No sir, it is out of the question. I prefer pony races as well, but if your gryphon/dragon is an exceptionally awesome character, I might let him in, but otherwise: Earth ponies, Pegasi, Unicorns...

3: I want some sort of commitment to this RP. I'm not asking you to sign a contract or anything, but please be active and post good-quality, properly lengthed post. Around 400 charcters is the ABSOLUTE minmum. Try to be descriptive, communicate with more than just one person and don't go spam 1on1 and forget about everyone else... (TEAMWORK, people)

4: As for the length of your post, I am also going to impose a minimum to posts per week, which is at least 2. Otherwise you are contributing too little to the RP and there should be made room for someome more motivated.

5: I'm pretty loose with all of the rules above. This might sound a bit contradictory, but if you talk to me we can always figure something out. Just try to use common sense. Is what I am doing contributing to the story AND EVERYONES fun... Stuff like that.

I hope to fill in at least 6 spots before we start, consisting out of different kinds of talented ponies. I hope to get a group of variety, but of we get a lot of muscisians we might be able to start a band! Or if we get a lot of material artist we can start an atelier of collaborated arts! You get what I'm trying to do right...

Anyway, I hope this is understandable for you guys, since o wrote this entire wall of text on my phone... As soon as I get on my PC I will clean this mess up a bit. I just wanted to get this out there...

I have a question... can we consider metalworking an art? My OC can craft armor and engineer stuff. So he could create stuff from Royal Guard Armor (see avatar and deviantart), to trivial things like spoons, plates, knives, to rings, to making paintings out of metal and anything.

In this case using copper. Or he could be something like the guy from "Man at Arms" re-creating mythical weapons and legendary weapons either from books or stories.


Incidentaly my father has made metal-paintings out of copper. I feel somewhat proud of that. He "metaldrew" Athena and Ares and something else i don't quite remember right now.

I said, ANY kind of art. This includes forging, metalworks, everything! You could use molds to create statues, or you could forge using hammer and anvil. It is not just a profession, its a traditional artstyle that has lived throughout the ages! It creates items of both beauty and strength! Of course you could join! Keep in mind however, this RP is settled in a time far beyond the reign of steel... Metalworking is nearly never used in practical lifestyles now. Nearly everything is made industrially, except of course the highest quality items or the strangest parts that can't be mechanically built.

 

So, shortly saying. Yes, metalworking is fine!

I was wondering, how can a pony actually play piano, or violin, or guitar? Does she use her wings or does she just play 2 notes at a time... I'd think you would need fingers to play any instrument you listed actually, but has she perhaps created a technique that uses her wings? Not trying to beat your idea into the ground, because it looks pretty good, but you need to be a bit more specific... And it gives oppertunity for improvement of your character!

 

Rythm runner should be OK, but I hope you can describe a bit more specific what kind of tecniques and machine you use for your music. You might have to do some research on it!

 

However, you might be able to play both, but I'd prefer if you pick one, most certainly if enough people actually show up! If they don't, then you can play both of them, but try to make a choice just to be sure...

I'll play Rhythm if I need to play one. And I know allot about producing/mixing and stuff. I'll be fine.

 

As for playing music like guitar...I've thought about it before but in the show ponies play piano, Cello, the harp...yeah its weird but like all the other OC musicians I just kinda...left that out rather then thinking about it because, well...if that was true there wouldn't be any music in the Equestria world. Don't take it too seriously...

Why wouldn't I? You can create more depth in your character if you do... But whatever, if thats the way you think about it, sure! :D It's a choice that I made, but I wont enforce it on anyone else. Just trying to give you some more ideas... :3

Hello! Can I join with my OC Thunder Shred? I change it so it's just after he gains his cutie mark (around 17-18) so he has more room to gain talent.

You good... Though dexter doesn't enjoy metal as much as most genres, he can see talent anywhere.

 

Your story is cool... Though a bit generic, but that is ok. Your OC can be 26 however. Dexter has something to learn to anypony, no matter how experienced you are...

Not that far really. Just a slightly alterated use of technology. Think of it as manehatten in episode 08 of this season, only slightly more technology... You know tech is weird in MLP. They have elcricity and trains and sewing machines, but no regulat cars whatsoever. There is some uprising industry in this RP, but nothing much different from the show.

Goal: be able to map out all of Equestria.

If your maps are particulary artistic and beatiful, you should be ok, but I'd add storytelling/writing/poëtry to the list as well, and he should be able to draw a little more than maps right? You go to this college to learn yes indeed, but you need to be pretty creative and talented to begin with...

I'll have to warn though that my schedule is absolutely weird and crazy because I work overnights near the weekends. Typically what happens is that I'm on at times when nobody is. The exceptions for this are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. So I might be a bit slower to post or get kinda lost sometimes.
