Bug out vehicle

In case you do not know what a bug out vehicle is. A bug out vehicle is just a vehicle you'll use when you need to leave in a hurry. You are sitting in front of your computer when you suddenly find out a disaster is going to or has strike. You need to leave in a hurry, with supplies (bug out bag) and usually you have a plan as to where you will go and set up camp or find refugee.

There are a few things that are important when it comes to a bug out vehicle. Number one is reliability, number two it has to be tough or at least somewhat durable. Number three, it needs to be ready to go places.

So, what's up for discussion? What would be your preferred bug out vehicle and why?

I have given this a bit of thought number one would be the Toyota Land cruiser 80. In America it is probably known as something else. Here the Land cruiser is known for it's reliability as well as durability. Considering it endures the harsh environment here, rock climbing, ice and other things it surely will do as a bug out vehicle.

So, what's yours?

KAMAZ 63968 Typhoon

Kamaz Trucks are among the best in the world, one recently one a rally in Argentina as well.

It is a beast, one that would be epic seeing in action.

this (http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/diesel-powered-mechwarrior)

its a mech, that i would drive, that has all sorts of stuff on it.

That is definitely interesting, as long as it works for you.

I don't give a single fuck about supplies as long as I run away with style. I'd go with an Alpha 147, I just looove the front part :3

Not sure if it's tough enough but style is also important. lol

Haven't given this a lot of thought. But nothing beats a good old Hummer H1. B)

You haven't? Would have said the Hummer H1 as well. They're really cool and they're definitely tough enough.

My bug out vehicle would be this salvage car, to keep my supplies safe when I'm in a hurry.

Well, even though people would leave the supplies, I'm just wondering whether it will actually work when you need it to. But I'm guessing you're just referring to any car that's "salvage" looking. Since a BMW might not work too well in such a bad condition.

Yeah, that. Just my opinion, I would drive it when I need it.

Maybe an old style military jeep, one of the small ones? I hear those are good on gas you could fit enough to take care of one or two people for a few days easily.

Sometimes four wheels are better then one. But having tried one of those unicycles I can't say I would again.

In all seriousness, I would pick a very, very powerful morotcycle. The ability to slip between cars while in grid lock will be vital if you live in the city or plan on taking a highway or interstate; and considering that you're completely exposed while on a morotcycle, speed is your only option if you want to evade anyone/anything. Motorcycles are also very fuel efficient. Some people use a kit to convert their motorcycle to a deisel engine. Although not as fast and hard to start in cold weather, deisel won't be used up as quickly as gasoline. In fact, the thickness of deisel makes it burn a lot more slowly than gasoline. Some deisel motorcycles can get three-hundred miles to the gallon!

I would go with a mountain bike. Seriously, it can go almost anywhere, doesn't draw attention, it's reliable, and unbelievably good on gas. All you need is saddle bags and a backpack (capable of holding everything you'll need if you pack well) and you're golden.

Toyota Prius.

Don't bash me but the Prius has the room to carry supplies, autonomy, and can get somewhere dire without the need to stop for gas very often.

After watching the numerous Top Gear episodes featuring it, I'd say the Toyota Hilux. I think if a car [or truck] can drive to the North Pole, I think it can survive pretty much anything else.

I'd say refubrished UAZ 452, like this one:

If it's been refubrished, even in stock configuration it'll handle rough terrain (it has 4x4), it comes with both diesel or gasoline engines and can be easily modded with a more modern "heart", and will provide transport and shelter for, say, 4 people easily. If you shell some money on it it can be nearly anything - the modding options are nearly infinite. And you can sleep inside, if you won't cram it all with supplies (or mount beds). It's not fast, but it's tough and will go on poorest grade fuel, even old frying oil if it's a diesel. There's lots of them in eastern Europe and while they're old and often in bad shape, there are companies witch refubrish and mod them for reasonable prices.
