Here’s a breastfeeding scene from Sesame Street: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-L-Fg7lWgQ

Here’s another breastfeeding scene from Rugrats: http://youtu.be/Kq0ZbaJs_l0?t=5m58s

Now, picture a breastfeeding scene in an episode of MLP:FiM (perhaps Mrs. Cake breastfeeding Pound Cake and/or Pumpkin Cake).

Would you find that ok or ‘not ok’?

I’d personally be a-ok with it.

It would be fine, and it wouldn't necessarily mean pony boob. I mean, if she were sitting down, the baby could just be sitting in her lap with its head bobbing in front of her chest. No actual chest lump or anything, just the back of a baby face in front of it.

Er, I personally am all for mother's breastfeeding. But...that would mean giving ponies boobs.

Do you see where this could be heading?

Um....I don't have a problem with a breastfeeding scene, but why would it be in MLP in the first place? Ponies don't have breasts so it would just be nursing on a teat, like what they would usually do with their young.

:umad: Do any of you know how horses nurse their young?

I don't think Lauren Faust would want to give them human breasts.

Ponies have udders, not breasts, so what would be the point? In any case, breastfeeding advocates seem to want to paint breastfeeding as OMG SPESHUL WONDERFUL UNIQUE when in actual fact, it's normal. Every single mammal does it without all this publicity.

Here is a mare feeding her foal. Do you really want this on MLP?

I'd be okay with it if it happened but as everyone else seems to be discussing since ponies don't have regular boobs it wouldn't make sense to have it in a scene. A baby at the chest wouldn't have a boob to fed on and a foal at the teat would just confuse little girls who once again are the target audience. So showing the foal fed from an obvious bottle makes more sense.

Well, we'd adjust it a little. What I picture is keeping where the foals suckle close to the same place; but have the mare in a different position, such as laying down like a how a dog does it (seen on Pound Puppies).

errm...that would be very strange. breastfeeding is a natural thing and mothers should be allowed to do it anywhere, but most moms, including mine, dont just rip open there shirt and have at it. and considering the way baby horses, (foals) nurse, that would look very weird. im guessing mlp writers skippid over the breastfeeding stage before showing pound and pumpkin cake again, after all the next time they are a part of a plot they are nursing out of bottles and/or eating.

Just to point out, as a breastfeeding advocate myself, that's all we're trying to accomplish, an acceptance of normalcy when it comes to breastfeeding. I don't really see it being pushed as some amazing, special, magical thing. Although it is a great bonding experience for the mother and child and is the best thing for the baby. But that's why we're fighting so hard for normalcy. If the babies hungry while we're in a public setting, it's a lose-lose a lot of the time because if we feed them, people complain. If we don't feed them, they'll cry and then you get the people complaining about why bring your kid to a restaurant with you if you can't keep them under control.

When it comes to being portrayed on MLP, I don't see why it would. I mean, they're ponies, and the only couple with a child has already been shown as bottle feeding, so the window for opportunity isn't even there, and if it was, they are horses. Trying to send a positive breastfeeding message through ponies is hardly accurate or in line with the kinds of conflict the characters run into on a daily basis.

I voted yes anyway because if it did happen beyond all logic I wouldn't be offended by it, just confused.

Well, I WOULD've been okay with the idea of breast feeding, but then everyone had to point out that these are equines and not humans. I agree that it would just look awkward given horse biology.

What about Meerkats, and all those times we saw them nurse on Meerkat Manor?

That's a random kind of thing to want, isn't it? You don't see breast feeding in many shows as it is, so what would MLP gain from including breast feeding? Sorry, but this one is just too weird.

I don't really watch Meerkat Manor, although i've seen a few clips :P That show also didn't shy away from gore when a Meerkat gets eaten by a predator. And that's kinda a nature show, its to be expected. This is a cartoon about anthropomorphic (who talk and mostly behave like humans) ponies whose larger appeal is to little girls.
