Why do you bake cookies and cook bacon?

From what I understand it , Cookie isn't named because it's cooked but rather because it comes from the Dutch word, Koekie, meaning "Little Cake" which it kind of is..

likewise, Bacon isn't called Bacon because of it's cooking style, not sure what it's origin means exactly, but it kinda means "Back of the pig" , Which kind of makes sense since in many Countries Bacon cuts are commonly from the Back rather than the belly. Maybe it started that way
