Actually, a mod took care of alot of the negative and hate posts. Most of what I've seen is all silly and in fun if anything.

Right like the posts about Fluttershy's and Rarity's slave dungeons? Or are those still up?

Funny how mods will take down a thread that is deemed controversial when there is a tiny argument in it *cough*clopsurvey*cough*, yet this thread still has managed to last as long as it has with constant name calling, shitstorms, and generally negative behavior. I feel like the rules bend a little bit when deciding when and "argument" is controversial or not.

I know from experience that every thread about clopping eventually ends up as a gigantic flame war. EVERY thread. Despite the staff holding back on locking it and frequently requesting that members calm down, and simply being ignored, or having a short period of peace before it all flares up again. Finally, after half a dozen second chances, the staff are regretfully forced into closing it.

What happened here in this thread was pretty mild compared to those.

More than likely they're gone. The mod who mentioned it, said he/she was taking them down, and to stop posting them, along with other kinds of things.

Actually Clop Survey was almost to 1,000 posts and the most flame warish thing I remember happening was a guy said something like, Clopping is so weird and gross I don't get it. Everybody then told him the reasons behind why they do it and he left calmly without another word. I seriously felt like that was an extremely well contained and usually sophisticated thread comparatively to the thread that was called R34 Why ;(. I mean just the title of that one was asking for flames and it got them.

Edit:

Oh and you said "Finally, after half a dozen second chances, the staff regretfully are forced into closing it." We got 2 warnings and one hammer fall. And regretfully isn't the word to use, the mod who locked it messaged me and used a smiling emoticons at the end... such tears, much regret, wow!

Ah okay. Also I wish mods would give warnings of when they're taking posts down. I've had posts deleted and I had to figure out after the fact as to what fate they beheld.

My point is that the issue of clopping itself tends to be Grade A tinder. Sitting under a magnifying glass. At the equator. At noon. Still, I haven't read through the whole of that particular thread, so maybe it didn't need a lock, and the staff were just being cautious. At any rate, this tourney thread seems to have calmed down again. As for "bending the rules" it's more like taking it on a case by case basis.

This discussion is a little off-topic.

Vote for Rarity! :D

Well I'm done for the night. AJ and Rarity finally overtook the others awhile ago and it's been rather slow going for at least the past 2 hours. I'll see what the results are when I wake up tomorrow, after the polls have closed I'm sure.

For now, I leave with one last push.

Vote best country pony!

I read some of the previous posts and I'm actually very happy that I missed all that drama, insults, etc. For once I'm glad that I decided to go to bed early xD I hope it's going to turn into friendly competition once again :)

Good luck, everypony!

Looking at this thread makes me cry. It's a silly contest over which fictional character you prefer and you're all doing an aggressive back-and-forth like you all slapped each other's mothers. It's shameful, tis' what it is.

Every contest ever in any fandom is like this.Be it sonic the hedghog, inyuasha, or just anime in general.

Pinkie Pie is best pony and she needs your votes! (Especially since someone just switched their vote....)

A vote for Pinkie Pie is a vote for parties, cupcakes, candy, balloons....it's a vote for having a good time!

Also, as someone mentioned, a vote for Pinkie Pie is a vote for Pink Mist and Dsanders, and wouldn't you just love to do this for them since they can't be around anymore? It would be a lasting friendshippy memorial to two beloved users. Vote Pinkie Pie, do it for Mist and Sanders!

That doesn't make it any better.

That's like saying that because innocent people die in every war, it's no big deal.

If you think this is bad, you should read a "best captain" discussion on a Star Trek forum.

That doesn't make it any better.

Comparing a pony argument to innocent people dying in a war is about as irrational as the people getting legitimately angry over the pony argument itself. I think you just committed the message-board debate equivalent of dividing by zero.

I wasn't saying at at all. The point I was trying to get at was that it is a fairly lost cause to attempt to improve the occurring's of a contest in any fandom. It is like trying to make all dogs stop chasing after cars, while you may put a valiant effort in, you will never achieve the desired end result, the most you can do is mitigate it to a manageable level.

Perhaps. Sometimes I'm a bit too optimistic about things like this.
