I please do not bash this suggestion as I don't know if Poniverse or mlpforums can work with Apple.

I think it would be a good idea to make a downloadable app in the App Store for mlpforums.

 

It could either cost money or cost nothing.

The money may help to support the site, as well.

Just to mention a few.

 

Creating an app requires a lot of time and effort, plus the knowledge about how to do so. Sadly we have not had the time to develop an official app for MLP Forums yet. We're trying to build the Poniverse community as for now. If the administrators could snap their fingers and have an app for us it would already exist by now. We are a bit limited when it comes to development and resources, creating apps is not costless. Especially not for the app store.

On a side note, if it would ever happen, I would guess that the app would be created for android Google Play instead of the iOS App Store since our Pony.FM app is created for android devices.

On my phone, the forums isn't really screwy, but it looks really... hm, lame.

An mlpforums app would make it look more amazing! Maybe it can actually show when you receive notifications, and it can show avatars! Also when people comment on your profile. That'd be nice.

I think I can help with this. One of the other forums I am on uses "tap-a-talk", an app that connects to forums and allows users to easily reply, read, and actually looks very similar to the current browser look.

 

If we could create a port to tapatalk, it could be the recommended "app"

What are the terms on IPS powered forums creating their own App? I know IPS has an App for IOS, so I don't know if they allow it. Then again, I'm was more familiar with modding phpBB which had an open TOS ... so if Invision is the same way ... a custom app may not violate the TOS.

 

Anyway, I could design the UI fairly quickly in my SDK and pass it off for integration when the time comes that the Admin Team wants an App.

Well that's easy, the site admin just needs to install the tapatalk plugin in the admin panel of this board -- provided it hasn't been modded too much.

 

You don't need a developer for that.

I agree completely, it would be a wonderful app to have, that way it's much easier to post on the forums (as well as respond to messages), also, don't forget Android (I'm only an Android user). I would love to see an Android app as well!

I don't see us ever adopting Tapatalk. It fully surrenders control of the user experience to another organization, commoditizes forum communities, and has us telling users to make a payment that we will never see a cent of as a "recommended" way of using MLP Forums on their phone.

 

Tapatalk also adds a spammy "Sent from my phone using Tapatalk" message to the end of every post a user makes with it, displays an annoying popup when you visit a site using it, and replaces all of our revenue streams with Tapatalk's own.

 

 

I certainly don't mind the product's existence, but I do not agree with its terms.
