Star Wars dollars and coins, Pokemon currency IRL?

I was searching for pictures of the currency in the Monopoly Star Wars edition, the first picture was this:

I have never seen these ones before, obviously they weren't the dollars you use in the game.

So as I researched a little more, I realized it is the real currency of the Island of Niue.

Or maybe it was, I don't know.

But after searching for more of Niue's currency, I also found out that in 2001 they used Pokemon coins, again, I don't know if they still use it or not.

So what are your thoughts on the currency?

Is it crazy or is it a good, original and awesome idea?

I actually have a Pokémon coin at home! :]

I bought it from a guy a long time ago but I don't know where it is now though.

They probably knew people like us would fall for it...

They're worth about twenty cents (to make) and we'll pay far more than that for one simple coin! :o

Ahhhhhhhhh!

Oh man I remember the Pokemon coins but like the others I forget how they were obtained. I remember the gold plated "cards" Burger King sold when they had the 24+ Pokemon toys (and the pokeball containers that suffocated infants)
