BronyCAN 2014: Who on the forum is going?

This con is within driving distance for me and my friend, so we're seriously contemplating it. Well, tbh, I have my doubts about it. My friend and I are still relatively new Bronies, and we're closet Bronies to boot. This isn't something we'd be willing to get on a plane for at this point, so it's a good thing it's as close to us as it is.

I'm not sure how many days we should go for, or if we should bother, since, given how these things are portrayed in the documentaries, we don't appear to be obsessed enough. We have yet to take up the trading card game, and we don't plan on dressing up or anything. As much as the charity auction sounds like an awesome idea, neither of us have much in the way of money to spend on something like that. Quite frankly, I'm not sure if we'll fit in at Brony Can, or even how long it'll captivate us. I don't know how these things work, or what people do there. Maybe we should just go for one day, but I'm not sure which day would be best. We have to think about parking at the event, among other things. I don't know. Ultimately, this is something we're going to have to think about. When is the cutoff date for buying tickets?

You can buy tickets at the door, but they're usually a little more expensive.  As for whether you'd fit in at the convention, you would.  It's not just a thing for cosplays and playing the card game.  Basically what happens at a pony convention is they'll be all sorts of different panels and events relating to all different areas of the fandom.  They'll have Q&A panels with the voice actors and other guests.  They'll also have panels on different areas of the fandom like fan animation projects, fan fiction, brony websites, and all sorts of other stuff.  And they'll have some events usually... such as a cosplay contest and other things.  On top of all the panels and events, they'll have a vendor's hall where you can look at and buy all different types of artwork and merchandise from people in the fandom.  They'll have autograph sessions with the show staff that are there.  Most conventions have a concert or two with various brony musicians.  And then of course there's the charity auction and a bunch of other things as well.  There's just a ton of stuff that you can do there.  And you can go to as little or as much of it as you want... some people spend the weekend going to panel after panel and others mainly go to conventions to just talk to other bronies and look through the vendor's hall.

I'd definitely recommend going... the point I'm trying to make is that there's something for everybody at a brony convention regardless of whether you're a kid, an adult, a casual fan, or a die-hard brony.

As for me, I sadly can't go to BronyCAN.  It's just too far away for me to go.  But I will be going to Bronycon and Babscon and maybe some other U.S. cons this year.

Great. Ok, that actually helps, a lot. I think I will go.

It was recommended as a place to visit from member of the local slots club, and Thursday is the only free day to do it.

And yeah, I understand. I had the same thing happen to me when I went to BC when I was 18. Only person on the trip to be left at the hotel while everyone else went out :/

Argh! My friend can't make it Sunday, which was the day we planned on going. The good news is he can make it Friday, which is when the meet and greet thingy is happening, and that's probably ideal since we're relatively new Bronies(just started watching the show back in April), and we've never actually been to a con before. The downside is that the two people I want to meet are Nicole Oliver and Amy Mebberson(more so Nicole Oliver), and they aren't there Friday. Sunday is the most ideal day, since they'll both be at a panel that day, but I will be missing that. I'm considering springing for a weekend pass and coming back by myself on Sunday, but I don't know if I want to do that, since I'm not really that comfortable with the idea of going it alone.

I really do want to meet Nicole Oliver. I looked her up to find out if she was in anything else I'm familiar with, and it turns out she played Mei Lin in Cardcaptors, which I remember from my childhood, and that effectively makes her even more awesome in my book. I like Amy Mebberson's art in the FiM comics, so I'd love to meet them both. As it stands, I may not end up doing that. Anyone have any advice?

I'm going to try to get into the meet and greet thing on Friday. I hear there are limited spots though. I'm new to the fandom too, so I'm also looking forward to getting acquainted with people, and learn what it truly means to be a Brony(since, for all I know, I could be atypical for a member of a fanbase I only just joined).

Sigh.  I still gotta figure out how the heck I'm going to do this around work.   I'll probably have to take a long lunch to pick up my pass and then not do much else on Friday.

Hopefully everyone that's going has a good time! I had tentative plans on stopping by for at least one of the days since I live in the area, but I'm going to be out of town from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening for a wedding, which just had to be the same 3 days of the convention. Maybe I'll try for next year, who knows.

Same here. It's the morning of, and I'm getting ready to go. My registered pass says Tross on it, so you should recognize me, and my friend and I are trying to get into the meet and greet mixer. He doesn't have a pre-registered pass though, so we'll have to see about that.
