ooc Dragon Age: Shadows of The Deep Roads [Non-pony/Action/Adventure]

Literally Snails

Recommended Posts

This is an action RP based on the Bioware game franchise Dragon Age. This can be considered a pre-qual to the first Dragon Age game, as it will be taking place several years before it. This roleplay can be used as a good exercise in character development, since you will be building your own Grey Warden from scratch. Romance between characters is allowed and somewhat encouraged, but that will not be the main focus of this RP.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Things you'll need to know:

Grey Wardens: The Grey Wardens are an order of warriors recruited from all places in society, even thieves and malificar can be among their ranks. They are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to stop the Darkspawn threat.

Darkspawn: Corrupted men who have become monstrous abominations. They show no mercy to those unlucky enough to be taken as prisoners. They dwell underground in The Deep Roads but may sometimes raid the surface from time to time.

There are several types of Darkspawn:

Genlocks:

Genlocks are the smallest breed of Darkspawn. They are quite skilled as rogues and often set up ambushes for unwary travelers. Lower Genlocks fight alongside Hurlocks as foot soldiers.img-2529987-1-04_genlock_archer.jpg

Hurlocks:

Hurlocks are taller and more muscular than Genlocks, but lack their finesse. Hurlocks bolster the darkspawn hoard as shock troopers and enforcers.

img-2529987-2-Hurlock.jpg

Shrieks:

Shrieks are a more rare form of darkspawn that are capable of extreme speed and stealth. They prefer to set up ambushes and strike quickly rather than face their foes in direct combat.

img-2529987-3-Creature-Shriek_2.jpg

Ogres:

Ogres are one of the most feared variants of darkspawn. Their massive size and unwavering constitution allow them to overpower even the strongest of unprepared warriors.img-2529987-4-Ogre_commander.jpg

Ferelden: The county this RP takes place in. It has a relatively cold climate and a diverse population. It's capital is the city of Denerim.

Orzammar: The last, great, Dwarven city. It is relatively isolated but still maintains trade with the rest of Fereldin.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Rules:
- Follow typical RP rules (No Godmodding, no Marry Sues, no profanity, etc).
- There is a maximum of only four players. All players must be active and post at least once a day, preferably more.
- No derailing the plot. All characters should be following Yuril, not going off on their own.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Character Creation:

You will only be allowed one character in this RP. You will need to fill out the Character sheet and post it in this thread.

In addition to the characters I will control, there will be a maximum of two Rogues, two warriors, and two mages AND there is also a limit of four players.

Remember: Your character is not a Grey Warden yet! He/she has been recruited into the Wardens, but will not become one until later in the RP.

Character Sheet:

Name:
Gender:
Race: (Human, Dwarf, Elf)
Description:
Personality:
Class: (Warrior, Rogue, Mage)
Specialization: (See bellow for details on specializations)
Technique: (Your characters main fighting style. I.E. dual weapons, two handed weapons, sword and shield, elemental magic, spirit magic, etc.)
Equipment:
Backstory: (This is very important! Detail your characters origins as well as what they were doing when they were recruited.)

Specializations:

You can pick only one specialization for your character.

Rogue Specializations:
- Ranger: The Dalish elves train their hunters to respect the wilds as well as master its dangers. Rangers are more resistant to nature damage and have the ability to tame and command creatures.
- Bard: Bards do more than telling tales and singing. A skilled bard can make his allies more effective in battle and weaken his enemies with the sound of his battle songs.
- Assassin: "You see? Being an assassin is more of a career choice than a lifestyle." - Zevron of the Antivan Crows
Assassins specialize in attacking from stealth and making their attacks as lethal as possible. They can dish out more combat damage than most other rogues.
- Duelist: Duelists specialize in graceful movement in combat and make themselves much more difficult to hit. Their battle stances allow swift movement and quick counter-attacks. They can also throw off their enemies balance.

Warrior Specializations:
- Champion: Champions benefit from bravado and pride as much as caution and humility. Their battle cries are capable of weakening and even terrifying weak willed opponents and they can even knock enemies off their feet with their shouts. Champions can also rally their allies to make them stronger.
- Templar: Templars are the hand of the chantry and may also be known as 'Mage Hunters.' in addition to being resistant to magic, Templars are capable of 'cleansing' areas of magic which weakens nearby mages and dispels magical effects (on allies and enemies).
- Berserker: Berserkers harness their rage and use it as a tool in combat. They can enter a trans-like frenzy and deal massive amounts of damage. They also excel at taunting enemies and drawing attention to themselves.
- Reaver: Reavers are the the masters of pain and death on the battlefield. Hated by the Chantry and feared by their enemies, Reavers can feed off of the essence of fallen foes, making them stronger as others die. The closer a Reaver is to his own death, the more powerful he becomes.

Mage Specializations (Note: all mages can cast simple spells like lightning and fire):
- Shapeshifter: Many Chasind tell tales of mages who can become like wild beasts and blend in with the wilds. These shapeshifters are not taught in the Circle of Magi and thus are often hunted by Templars. A shapeshifter can transform into some various kinds of animals, but cannot transform into other humans, elves, or dwarves.
- Arcane Warrior: Arcane Warriors use their knowledge of the Fade to join the ranks of Warriors and Rogues on the front lines of battle. They can use their magical knowledge as a supplement for physical strength, allowing them to fight with heavy armor and swords that they would normally be too weak to use.
- Spirit Healer: Spirit Healers offer much needed relief for battle-wounded soldiers. Their knowledge of healing magic is unmatched. They are able to magically heal others and even save men from the brink of death.
- Blood Mage: "They are to be called Malificar, accursed ones!" - An exert from The Chant of Light
Blood Mages are the greatest fear of the Chantry. They are rogue mages who have used the powers of demons to gain more strength. Blood mages can use their own blood, or the blood of their allies, as power to cast spells. Spells cast with blood magic are more powerful than those cast normally.

Techniques:

These are the possible fighting technique specializations you can pick for your character. You can only choose one.

Rogue choices:

- Dual Weapons

- Archery

Warrior choices:

- Dual Weapons

- Archery

- Sword and Shield

- Two-Handed Weapons

Mage choices:

- Elemental Magic

- Spirit Magic

- Hexes and Curses

two example characters (These are the characters I will be playing as):

Name: Ser Thomas
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Description: Tall and moderately muscular, he has a shaved-bald head and no noticeable facial hair. His eyes are dark green. His nose is slightly bent to the left because it was broken in a duel and never healed properly.
Personality: He has a strong moral code and values honor greatly. He is a strong follower of the Chantry and thus detests apostates by nature. Although he is well mannered and kind, he can become short tempered at those who offend The Maker or Andraste. He knows very little about other cultures such as elves and dwarves and holds some ignorant beliefs about them.
Class: Warrior
Specialization: Champion
Technique: Sword and shield
Equipment: Silverite longsword, silverite kite-shield, silverite plate armor (minus the helmet)
Backstory: Ser Thomas was born into a noble family in Highover. He grew up as a strong follower of the chantry and vowed into knighthood to serve the Maker as a noble warrior. He was later recruited into the Grey Wardens when he lead the defense of a farm-hold from a small incursion of darkspawn.

Name: Yuril
Gender: Male
Race: Elf
Description: He's very thin and has very pale skin. His eyes are brown and his hair is grey (it was once blonde). He has no facial hair.
Personality: As a senior Warden, he is greatly loyal to the Grey Wardens and will do whatever it takes to preserve the order. He acts as a mentor to new recruits but can be strict to those who show unfavorable qualities.
Class: Rogue
Specialization: Bard
Technique: Archery
Equipment: Ironbark longbow, inscribed leather armor (minus the helmet)
Backstory: Yuril was raised in Orlais and raised himself to a notable place in society as a bard (in Orlais, bards are often employed as spies). He seeked out the Wardens himself, originally intending to die in the joining or throw himself at the darkspawn so that he could die doing something heroic as a way to atone for his past. When he learned more about the Wardens, however, he chose to serve the Wardens faithfully and has been doing so for twenty five years.

Ah... Okai, I'll be looking into this RP though.

cool.

Is it okay if I use a human OC that I already have?

Of course, just be sure to fill out the character sheet with the info needed. Specialization, technique and equipment are important too.

Oh, I have a character for this actually. Little rusty, but 1 second.

Appearance: Masahito (aka Candy) posesses a babyish face and is short in height; his actual height is 148cm (4'11") but he will grow to be 180cm (6') in one of his dreams. His hair is short and butterscotch-blond in color. When not in school uniform, he tends to dress simply. He is normally seen with his cousin Takashi or his stuffed monkey Usa-Chan (aka Mun-Mun) by his side, and whenever he speaks, flowers tend to float around his head; the only exceptions are when he is angry, upset or confused.
Masahito's rose color is pink. In Japanese culture, this signifies joy and trustworthiness; Masahito possesses both of these traits in quantity. In Western culture, the pink rose is a symbol of nurturing and affection; also traits which Mitsukuni demonstrates throughout the series.
Name: Masahito
Age: 15
Race: Elf
Masahito "Candy" is considered a "boy lolita" or "loli-shota"; basically, he's an older boy who likes cute things and, due to his diminutive size, is cute himself. Masahito is a perennial optimist who loves sweets and small things. His babyish features and innocent approach to life make him appear to be more like an elementary school student, instead of a Third Year high school student as well as the eldest of all his family. He is usually seen riding on the shoulders of his best friend and cousin, Aiko Masahito, and is almost always carrying his stuffed Monkey, Usa-Chan.

Personality: Although he appears dimwitted, Masahito is actually very smart. Despite his generally positive nature, he angers easily when awakened from slumber and since his blood type is AB, most of his family believe that he has a split personality.
As the eldest in his family Masahito refers to his fellow family using the -chan honorific. He also serves as a mentor-figure for his friends, especially Kouati, and is eager to help others find their identity, just as Aiko helped him find the courage to be his true self. He is attached to his stuffed monkey, Usa-Chan, as it was made just for him by his grandmother, and he harbors an insatiable appetite for sweets and cake, which he believes can solve, or at least ease, any problem.

Masahito is born under the star sign of Pisces, the Fishes. The positive traits of this sign are imagination, kindness, compassion, intuition, sensitivity and selflessness. The negative traits of this sign are escapism, idealism, a weak will, over-sensitivity, pessimism and indolence. Since he is born on February 29, a leap-day, Masahito only celebrates his birthday once every four years, which means these qualities have a lessened influence on his personality.
Back story: (Will be edited I got to go to bed.)
Hidden blade, claws, A bow and arrow, throwing knives, a ax, sword, and a dagger.
Class: Rouge
Specialization: Dual Weapon
Main Talent: Archery
Minor Talent: Sabotage

Um.... no. This is a serious RP, not a joke. Did you see the two example characters? This is a dragon Age RP. Your character should fit into that universe.

Something like:

A City Elf

A Dalish elf

A Dwarf Duster

A Dwarf commoner

A Dwarf noble

A Human Noble

A Human Peasant

A Human commoner

A Chantry Priest

An Apostate Mage

An Antivan Crow Assassin

A Dwarf from the Legion of The Dead

Etc.

I know we're supposed to make Warden-able characters but would it be possible for me to play as an awakened Darkspawn (Hopefully you played the Awakening Expansion.)

If you want to play as an awakened Darkspawn as an enemy, you can if you also play as a normal character.

Fantastic! You're the first character to get approved.

That was from another Dragon Age RP that I had with a few friends.

Heres a couple tips:

- All characters must be of a realistic height and weight, not a couple centimeters.

- "Candy" is a name no one will ever take seriously.

- There are no "Highschools" in Fereldin. This is a medieval setting way before education reform.

- Fereldin doesn't have the same calendar as we do. So never mention dates, leap year, etc. in your application ever.

- There are no 'Major Talents' or 'minor talents.'

- Theres several other things wrong that I can't even explain. Just look at the example characters, please?

I'll probably be posting a character soonish. I've got to mull over the dwarf vs human in my head.

Take your time. (I would go with a dwarf, personally.

((Dwarves won.))

Name: Vk'tir Silversteam
Gender: Male
Race: Dwarf
Description: Vk'tir stands at approximately four feet tall. As such he is not exactly short nor tall for a dwarf. His features are plain for the most part and are kept that way on purpose. Due to his line of work his hairstyle and color change often, as does his eye color. Underneath the modifications he'd have dark blonde hair and brown green eyes. (Though one was never likely to see them.) Generally his figure is kept in good shape for running, climbing, and other semi-necessary abilities for killing people.
Personality: Vk'tir is not an overly extroverted person, preferring his own company to that of others. That being said, he will not object to an ale with a well known associate. He will still check it for poison though. It is not that he is always suspicious or too cautious, but simply an ingrained survival instinct. When one works in his profession, triple checking ever detail is absolutely necessary to survival. Even so he is still given to occasional bouts of bad judgement. (Such as buying a fake device that was supposed to replicate iron bars. In truth it only cut them in half.) If one is sufficiently acquainted to him so as to not be instantly transfixed by several knives, he will prove tolerable if somewhat quite company.
Class: Rogue
Specialization: Assassin
Technique: Dual Weapons
Equipment: Studded leather boots, arm braces, and tunic. A cloak of many pockets. A variety of lock-picks and small multi-purpose tools. Two short spears. (Dual Wielded.) A finely made steel dagger. (Nine inches long, extremely thin yet very strong.)
Backstory: Vk'tir was (thankfully) not born as a Casteless. This does not often help him very much as he was the son of a Servant Caste dwarf. As such he was often treated only marginally better than a Casteless dwarf. Due to (somewhat) shared treatment by higher class dwarves he formed a number of alliances and business relationships with various Casteless dwarves. Eventually due to tensions with his Noble Caste employers, he exited into the Deep Roads of his own free will. By sheer dumb luck he found his way to the surface. Soon he found an affinity to killing for money (as he already had some skill in sneaking from his days in Orzammar). Most of the time he worked with clients that he felt were (mostly) honorable and occasionally exacted retribution when he found that he'd been deceived. It was in one such instance that he met the Grey Wardens. While chasing a rat of a merchant who'd tried to fleece him, he'd entered into the sewers. He met the Wardens at the same time as he caught the merchant, who was being disembowled by Darkspawn. After the following battle, Vk'tir asked if he could join the Wardens in the hope that he could one day return to Orzammar and free it from the Darkspawn, thus earning him and the Casteless a place in society.

(Edit: Woops, hit the button too early.)

@,@,  It's been almost two days since the last reply on this topic and we still need two more characters. (We're especially short on female characters and mages.) If you know anyone who might join, please message them.

I'm sort of short on contacts man. (Those that I have either don't like Dragon Age or are occupied.)

They don't have to have played before. all the information needed should be in the first post. If you can't find anybody, I at least need you to promise to wait and not leave if this takes a while.

We currently have four characters. All four of them are male and none of them are mages. If you were to have a female character or a mage character (or both), that would be best. But you can pick whatever you want.
