Malls are disappearing?

I dunno about other malls but the one in my town, previously dubbed the "Supermall" (now The Outlet Collection...wtf did you do to my Supermall?), has gone so far down hill the last few years. It's nothing but clothing stores, a couple of phone stores and Hot Topic/Spencer's. There's a couple of antique shops but I've never ventured in.

But you know what it's missing? Video stores of any sort. They used to have a Gamestop, an arcade and a video store. All of those are gone now. Replaced by more stupid clothing stores. I DON'T NEED MORE CLOTHING STORES. I HAVE WALMART AND GOODWILL FOR THAT.

One of my favorite activities to go to are haunted houses, as in the Halloween attractions. But, I always feel like they are too corny and predictable. I've always wanted to design a truly chilling haunted house.

I think one of those abandoned malls, with some modifications, could be a good place to start.

I really hope malls don't disappear for good.

don't know if they'll flourish unless there's a change in how things are being run. for some reason me and a friend talked about how it would be possibly that virtual reality gaming my benefit mall businesses.

yep. when our hang out spot was removed from the mall, it broke all of us. because of that place, we had formed formidable friendships that still have lasted till this day. there's so many stupid clothing stores... like really? Prada is what makes things tick?

The online market killed most video stores. Why rent movies when you have netflix? Why buy and sell games when pirate bay and utorrent has them all for free? The streaming service has killed video rental.

But what about geeky stores like collectible stores?! My mall had 3 (4 if you count ye olé Spencers) of them and they all somehow got bought out for clothing stores, which we definitely don't need any more of, especially considering there's a Sears, a Carsons, and a Macy's connected to the mall. I remember I got some of my best action figures at my mall, now the closest thing left is a Lego store.

Seems like the internet is what killed the outside world. Which reminds me of a clip from Sword Art Online in episode one. When the character is about to log onto the game and you catch a quick glimpse of no people being outside. Everyone was about to sign onto the game... that's becoming our reality ever so slowly. o.o

I know but I love to browse shelves of videos. Around here that's about the only type of place I could get anime short of ordering online.

There was also a Toys'r'Us Express in the mall that I could buy Sonic merch from but nooooooooooo they went out of business too. How long until the board game store goes down too? :okiedokielokie:

I'm beginning to think.... that the internet is actually causing the decline in physical businesses....

Not for long. Soon all warehouses will be automated. Only repairmen needed to upkeep the robots.

:( I'm already unemployable enough already. Why you gotta take away one of my very few avenues?

The world is taking everyones avenues away. That is why there is so much talk about moving towards a more socialist system. Due to automation, and a ever growing population we are having to make up jobs to keep people employed.

I wonder why more criminal gangs do not hand out in places like that? Or bums or whatever. You would think that a giant massive abandoned place like that would have people building meth labs inside of its basement from how big it is.

Do they have security walking around or something?

I believe this lol here where I live the stores are slowly leaving because the rent got too dang high :/ so now there's barely good stores and it's only one floor .___. (funny my town claims this mall is theirs because it's close yet this mall belongs to the town above but they think they own it because our town is a "city" "unlike the other small town" .__. these people I swear... XD

I have to jump in on this one.  Prada does not have any stores in the malls we are talking about.  None of the top designers have stores in malls like that.  There are shopping areas in Las Vegas that have all the premium stores but never in a standard mall.

As for malls in general, I think being able to purchase everything online (and in a lot of cases get free shipping too) has shifted the need greatly from going shopping to shopping at home.  I suppose in some areas the clientele might be a factor but I really don't have a need to go shopping like I used to.  It's easier to buy clothing when you can try it on first but there are department stores now that are offering free shipping and free returns.

The mall shops really can't compete anymore.  Their overhead is higher, and the need is gone.

I have heard about this but I didn't know it was this bad, I guess it kind of makes sense though if you think about it. Malls are getting less and less of the specialty collectible stores that for me at least made them worth going to and are pretty much nothing but clothing stores for the most part with some food places and with economy going down the crapper people can't spend as much as they used to. The mall near me used to have a sword shop years ago and I always dreamed of getting some stuff there but it closed down before I had a chance.

It kinda makes me want to go abandon-mall hunting. XD As if these places are historical landmarks... which I kinda guess they are since they once did serve a purpose on our planet.

I proper want to go Mall Hunting to: it looks fun! the pictures did look rather interesting, but I don't live in America and don't know about our malls over here so.... I can't even if I wanted to
