Oh boy how many times I have seen this over the past couple of weeks. First off, if you do a search for Stellar Eclipse on Derpibooru, there's only 35 images showing a lack of interest in the character as a whole. 

 

Second of all only 7 of those images out of 35 are porn. That is not "lots of porn".

 

And lastly the kid already said that he was fine with it!

A lot of that seems to be made up. I'm sure there was r34 of that character (it's kind of inevitable) but I don't remember the creators of the show demanding there be no r34 of that character and definitely no backlash to it.

I find it very unfortunate that this poor child had to deal with this, but i also find it unfortunate that people have chosen to sensationalize this event and shove it into the family's face for the sake of "showing ppl that bronies are gross!!1!"

 

From what i've seen of the situation, it's yet another case of a few bad apples being picked out of the bushel and being treated as the only apples that exist. If this makes you want to leave the fandom, that's cool, but if you think this is the only fandom wherein this would occur then i have some bad news for you...

By "them" i believe they mean the parents. And you're right, rule 34 is what it is. The only reason it's this big of an issue is because (as i understand it, could be wrong) antibronies specifically found porn of the character and sent it to the family of the child in question, and tumblr being tumblr the assertions in the comments of that particular post were probably both unfounded and unchecked.

This kid is my hero. While some people (the op and his mom) choose to freak out about the rule 34 community I'm glad he had the sense to see it as an honor that paid him that attention. Most I'm sure thought he was just a character on the show and not based on a real person. I do get tired of people trying to censor and blot out the part of the community that they dislike. Hopefully people will eventually learn that freedom of expression is truly an important thing and people can draw what they want to.

This kid is my hero. While some people (the op and his mom) choose to freak out about the rule 34 community I'm glad he had the sense to see it as an honor that paid him that attention. I get tired of people trying to censor and blot out the part of the community that they dislike. Hopefully people will eventually learn that freedom of expression is truly an important thing and people can draw what they want to.

I honestly don't even care/am not surprised by anything anymore. Overall, Yeah... I'd say this fandom is pretty stupid and they do and say some really stupid shit from my personal experiences... which is a lot. Some are decent, some are cool and fun... and some just are stupid as fuck. And that's just how it is. You can argue that "every fandom is like this" or "it isn't just the MLP fandom" but the fact stands, from MY personal experiences, this fandom is 100x worse than any other I've EVER been apart of.

 

Anyways, yeah, this is stupid. They shouldn't have drawn it considering it was specifically asked NOT to... but whatever. That's the fandom (in MOST cases) for you. Right there.

But... It wasn't specifically asked not to throughout this debacle.

 

Looking at this event, when the episode premiered it was not stated anywhere therein that the character was an OC, so many people were unaware of it. Then people began to find out. THEN there was a request made to not draw porn of the character, and shortly thereafter the request was rescinded. This only leaves a small window, that not everyone was even aware of, where people were being specifically asked not to do something. Did some people know about and ignore this request? Of course they did! It is an absolute logical fallacy to believe that a group of thousands could be devoid of bad people, and the bigger a group gets the larger and louder the group of bad people gets, hence our fandom's problem as a whole.

 

I leave everyone with a motto i live by: if your fandom hasn't emotionally scarred you, you haven't seen enough of it.

It seems there is not a lot of it though, so it could all just be one person making it for all we know.

 

Plus it's kind of unrealistic to expect r34 artists to even be aware of the character's origins. Basically only people who were closely following what the crew was saying on Twitter would even know about it.
