how do i do that? i'm drawing a blank

When in the paint.net program, click the file menu. Then, click save as. In the dialog box that appears, select .png in the Save as file type drop down menu, like so:

You know where you go to save your image? You should have the option to "Save File As" - click that, and save it is a .png :D

Keep in mind, saving it as a .png requires flattening the image. It'll give you the option to do that when you go to save it, but flattening it makes it all one layer, so you won't be able to edit it at all after you save it. You need to make sure everything is exactly as you want it before doing this :D
