Old or new music?

I'll drink to that!

I think the Brandenburg concertos are among my favorites (in particular 1048 and 1050), along with BMV 810 and 963.

My Bach collection is pathetically small, but I love them, as well as his various cantatas; such as Watchet Auf. <3

A combination of both. To me, music is timeless. When I listen to a song, I tend to glance past it's age and think more of my age. What I mean by that is, I remember what my life was like when I first listened to that song, and what was going on around me. Music is a very nostalgic medium to me

Although I do think that most modern pop music on the radio is braindead music  for braindead music, I have to say that there are a lot of other modern music genres that actually are pretty good. I love rock, metal, hip hop and dubstep too, as long as the songs have something good in the lyrics, not just the same "yeah yeah yeah" or "gonna f*ck a b*tch tonight" kind of music that's really popular unfortunatly -_-.

But to answer the question if I would prefer old or new music, I'd simply say; Why not both?

(I was gonna add the meme of the "why not both?" meme. But I wasn't permitted to upload it xD

Most MLP fans that I know, usually listen to "wubs". I only know 1 MLP fan who has a really similar taste in music as me.

I usually listen to(like right now) 90's rap and rock. I like all genres but those are the two I prefer. (Mobb Deep, Gang Starr, Limp Bizkit and Marilyn Manson are preferences)

Old, The Ink Spots (1930's) are one of my favourites, but anything up to the 80's I don't mind, after that I feel that music really went downhill, though I like particular types from those times, some songs from back then are ridiculously cringe worthy...

I listen to a mix. I mostly like rock, metal, and rap music. Bands that I listen to include the Ramones, Metallica, Guns n' Roses, Nirvana, Green Day, Linkin Park, and more. Rappers that I listen to are N.W.A. (along with Ice Cube and Dr Dre's solo works), Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Wu Tang Clan, Jay-Z, and more. So there are older and newer artists that I like. Hell, even though I mostly listen to the genres previously mentioned, I'll listen to any genre, but there are some artists I really don't care for (Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber). As far as EDM goes, I'd rather listen to it in some place like a club.

Old music is the best! I have nearly a hundred years of the past to discover with old music. That's enough music to keep me entrained for the rest of my life. The past had such wonderful music, from Frank Sinatra to Elvis and Michael Jackson. I truly appreciate the old stuff, more than any fancy electric Wubs.

I like music from the 70's 80's and 90's once it gets into the 2000s there is not much I like, especially country music, once country music hit the 2000s it lost all its soul and became more like hiphop and bad rock about beer and trucks, I don't even listen to the radio anymore

Mmm... both. I really like dubstep and video game rap, but they don't make up a majority of my faves. Plus, I hate sitting around waiting for new stuff when there's no guarantee that you'll like it.

I can listen to Elvis Presley, Metallica, Queen, AC-DC, Owl City (okay, I guess that's technically new), etc., and know that I will enjoy myself.

(Also, just a side note: I refuse to listen to artists like Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, etc.)

I have music from the 60's through now. Rock, Alternative, Classic Rock, and some pop(NOT stuff like Beiber.)

I also like some electronic music (not dubstep) and older country (90's to early 00's)

I'll listen to pretty much any music that's coherent and not angry and/or a spazz fest.

I have noticed that it takes more effort to find new stuff than it used to. What plays on the pop/rock on the type of stations I used to listen to is mostly just manufactured "disposable" filler. I don't see a lot of the newer songs being memorable years down the road.

I listen to both old and new music. Personally, I like the newer stuff better. It's alright if you prefer older music than newer ones. Just don't act like you're superior for your taste in music. Seriously, people like that are extremely annoying! Here's an example of what those nostalgia whiners say:

"Waaaahhhh! I love Pink Floyd! Why can't today's music sound good like this??? I hate my generation!!!11 Today's music sucks! I wanna go back to da 70s!"

If you're gonna complain how today's music "sucks", I guess you should dig deeper into the underground and actually try and find better music made today. I guarantee you'll find something enjoyable. There's more to this generation than mainstream Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj crap.

Besides, even during the 70s and 90s, the so-called "golden ages of music" also had crappy songs too. Not just this decade.

music is a dying art, todays music is cluttered with the trash of teen pop singers, so I'm going to say that old music (particularly anything from 1970-1994) is better

You should probably read my post and tell me what you think.

Modern music nowadays is garbage.  -_-

Yes. This is all I'm going to say; I don't feel like ranting right now.

You sound like the type of people I'm referring to.  >_>

I listen to older music. For me, most new music nowadays is dead.

You should read my post too.

Both. There are some wonderful classics from days gone by, and there are up and coming artists cranking out great stuff today.

I listen to a lot of classic rock and metal (Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Beatles, Scorpions, Metallica, Megadeth) and I also enjoy rap to an extent, but the only rappers I really listen to a lot would be N.W.A and Snoop Dogg, for the most part I really don't care for artists like Nicki Minaj or Justin Beiber or Ariana Grande, Katy Perry or any other popular artist today which is really just made by corporate assholes who write the lyrics for them, and even to an extent I do enjoy modern trap or dubstep or wubs, and other modern artists but pretty much all modern artists I like are underground and really aren't that popular.

Well mixture of both. I may get hate for this. But in Metal/Rock etc. I like the older stuff more then the newer stuff to be honest.
I'm not a big fan of screaming/growling in music.
But I tend to listen to a lot of modern Electronic Music. Usually House and Dubstep.
Though as I DJ, I prefer more of Deep House/House and Tech to play.
But I like many of the genre in Electronic music.

Other then then Electronic stuff.
I prefer a lot of the classic rock and stuff of the sort.

From my point of view, I can say that older music is more enjoyable because a lot of bands that I like have classics from the 80's and 90's, those classics are from the Thrash/Speed/Progressive Metal genre and from the first wave of Extreme Metal music. As for my opinion of what you would call the mainstream music at the time I would say that it looks alright compared to today's mainstream music, because at least the popular artists/bands weren't as bad as today's artists/bands. But, don't get me wrong, I still think that there are great artists/bands today, those bands generally plays Extreme Metal or Progressive/Technical Metal or they straight blend these two to make some even weirder music influenced by experimental artist from the past and in this case weird means awesome :P . But those bands are really underrated and IMO needs more love in the industry, but I guess it's better this way lol.
