I'm usually for the enchanted armor theory, until Fallout Equestria Project Horizons. Project Horizons has batponies as an actual race. They live in secret due to fear and social adjustment issues. It was Luna that introduced them to the outside, but they still mainly live in darkness. Nothing really changed over the course of centuries, even with the apocolipse. Their society is likely a monarchy, as they're known to have a king. Interestingly, they can only speak bat; barely audiable chirps and speaks. Luna's armor is what apparently grants them the pony vocal chords that allow them to actually speak. They have natural control over shadows, being able to jump into and between them, and being able to materialize and therefore weaponize shadows; at least as tendrils coming out, not anything complex like shapeshifting material. So yeah, the Project Horizons's appearance is now my headcanon.

The wings part, I don't know, maybe. Maybe not. Faust herself mentioned she wanted Twilight to surpass Celestia. Does this mean she was destined to become an alicorn from the start? Possibly. I don't know if Faust envisioned Twilight as an alicorn, or if what what ended up happening was what she really wanted or not. Point is, Princess Twilight isn't some sudden change Hasbro threw at us just for toys. It still is possible that adding wings was mainly for toy purposes, but since Twilight was already destined to ascend, they made it work. We don't know how much of this was planned, and how much of it was about toys, but I at least believe it was largely planned, and the toy plans had little influence. At most, that's how she got her wings, but not how she achieved princesshood. Is that really a bad thing? I like how it turned out. I think Twilicorn is adorable and if she was already destined for greatness, what harm is there at giving her wings while they're at it?

When I first heard of it, I didn't know what to feel. I waited 'till I saw the episode to judge. I expected it to feel too weird and different. But when the epic moment finally happened, I saw the same adorable nerd, somehow made cuter with wings. It was then that I decided to support Twilicorn, because she felt like the same adorable nerd we all know and love. Of course, this is only the beginning, we've yet to see what it's actually like until season 4, but that was the vibe I felt. I could go on about how Faust did mention that she planned for Twilight to surpass Celestia. Whether that includes wings or not, and if how it happened was the way she wanted it to happen or not isn't really important anymore. I'm at least comforted by the fact that this wasn't some last-minute change that was thrown at us. I love Twilight as an alicorn. She doesn't look too tall, regal, or benevolent. She still looks like Twilight to me.

After viewing Digibrony's reviews and such, it seems likely that season 3 was all about preparing Twi for her ascension. That, and Faust herself mentioned she planned for Twi to surpass Celestia. Even though she isn't involved in the show anymore, this still shows that the Twilicorn transition didn't come out of nowhere. Even if adding wings wasn't part of the original idea, Twilight becoming greater than Celestia was likely going to happen anyway. Besides, I think the episode pulled it off nicely and I can't wait to see what the writers have in store for season 4!
