  1. Thanks for the insight all. I've thought about the Corei9 stuff, but I'd like to stay away from those expensive monsters, if possible. In terms of storage, I'm definitely going for an SSD, but I don't know if I should go for the new stuff that fits into the PCI-e slots or stick with the classic SSD stuff for right now. Have to say, if I had the money and the expertise in programming (rusty as heck in C++), I'd go for the new Nvidia card that came out, the Titan V, but that's way, way, WAY outta my budget.
  2. I originally posted this on the discussion area of the derpibooru forums, but I don't see myself getting replies anytime soon. Welp, it’s slowly coming time for me to consider a new computer build. My current computer is an awesome, strong freaking dinosaur of a build with an old i7-920, 6gigs of ram, a 1kw PSU, 5870 gpu (downgraded cause my 7970 went kaput), and a nice little 1TB HD. As said, it’s slowly coming time for me to consider a new build since my computer is showing its age and need an upgrade, due to all parts being from 2009. At this point, I’m so out of the PC parts game I feel like I don’t know what to do or where to go for info. I’ve researched new stuff, looked up specs, etc…, and, again, I just feel like I’m on info overload. I’d like to nail a 5930k, but they are going out fast, and, though the 8700k seems nice, the reviews about thermal issues ticks me off to no end, not to mention the limiting of the PCI-e lanes and memory channels. In terms of what I’d like to do with the system, I’d like to game @ 1080p (minimum), but I want to go beyond and into the 2k and 4k gaming stuff. Also, down the road, I’d like to use it for potential AI deep learning since I’m trying to get back into computer program, along with streaming/video making for gaming. In terms of a budget, I’ve saved up and can shell out around $3k, but can push it to $3.5k if need be, but that would have to include taxes, S&H, etc…. Here's what I'm thinking right now for a setup: Think about a 5930k or go with the 6800kchipset using this for a Motherboard. Going with the Thermaltake 900 series case (also tempted to build my own case into a new desk I'm wanting to build) I'm gonna go with 4 sticks of 8gig ram for 32gb ram total and a 1kw PSU. GPU wise, I'm torn since the Vegas look nice, on paper, but I'm tempted to go with a 1080ti Hybrid Nvidia card like this one here from EVGA. Anyways, up for suggestions and ideas for any parts. Right now I’m thinking a 5930k or go into the 6800k chipset with
  3. A lot better than the current state. Things were must more relaxed, less drama, and, for me, no Twicorn. I'd say things peaked near the 2011/2012 state. It's when the last part of 2012 rolled around and 2013 came into swing that things went down the toilet.
  4. Unless it's a new one, it's been out for a while, and I honestly wasn't bothered by the video. College Humor used to be funny, emphasis on "used." Their gags are kinda pathetic as of late. I had to stop going to their site after clicking on one of the links that was supposedly on their site, but lead to a rather racy site that gave my computer malware.
  5. I'm done with this thread. It can be closed/deleted.
  6. Thanks for the quick replies all. At this point, I'm really, REALLY unsure of what I need in terms of a PC. I could potentially get by with a $200 crap notebook, but I'm not sure about a lot of things at this point. The course is completely new to me, and I've been out of the academic world for 7 to 8 years or so right now. I might take some other courses, but it would be on my dime since the grant only pays for courses that go towards earning my degree. With my gaming laptop, it's an MSI Core i7 4700MQ CPU (2.4GHz), 12GB ram, 64bit OS W7, and sports an Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M graphics card with a 16 or 17" display. This works as a portable workstation for me, allowing me to take materials with me if I need it. Again, I'm really unsure of what I might need since I've never used a fancy laptop in college. I mostly used an old Compaq. I would like to install Photoshop CS5.1 on the laptop I get, so I can do some photography on it by doing macro shots. I'm doubtful that I will need to do 3D rendering, but I might have to do some simulation stuff.
  7. As the title suggests, I need some help. I'll get to the heart of the matter in a tl;dr scenario. The laptop that I need will be used for college. Now, while I do have one, it's a gaming laptop that's a bit large for classes. I don't believe it would be appropriate to bring it to class with the 150w+ charger that it needs to use. I've signed up with BestBuy's college deal thing that gives me $150 off "select" laptops. I'm not sure if it'll help out or not in terms of what will and will not work. Ok, to the heart of the matter: The courses I'm currently taking will be centered around Biotechnology. I'll need the laptop for Chemistry (Gen chem II), and courses towards getting said degree in Biotechnology. Price range, I'll have around $500 to $750 to use towards the laptop since I was awarded some money through a grant. I can go over that $750 just a little bit, but I can't afford to spend $1,500 on a laptop since money is tight. The hard cap will be around $1k at most, not including taxes. I went to retrieve the email + image to go along with this, but the little bugger has gone MIA on me. Anyways, here are two of the laptop that I've looked at so far in terms of one for college. Asus 2-in-one laptop Asus 2-in-one laptop (#2) The difference between the two comes down to the first one being a Core i7 processor with the 2nd one being a Core i5 processor. I'm open to suggestions, and, if necessary, can sign up for other places as I do have the appropriate ID to prove my status as a college student. I'm looking for a decent laptop to help out currently and down the road. The great thing about the course I'm in is the internship which will "hopefully" lead to some gainful employment I couldn't obtain on my own.
  8. No problem, I can adjust the image. The hard part was getting the actual outline itself down. Flowers coming out of the holes might be tricky, but I can certainly alter the image to put the flowers around the skull. I'll see if I can dig up some rose images.
  9. Sorry this took so long. I was unsure of how to make the design actually work. Managed to settle on this particular design. I hope you like it. Tweaked the design so it was more towards the side. Hardest part was finding a reference, and I have to give a big thanks to Jan Animation's Don't Mine at Night for giving me a skeletal pony head reference point. Here ya go. I can change up the flower design and do a different pattern if you like. Yup. Here's what I managed to whip up by tracing out some fall leaves. Do you still want them curved? Had to think about this one for a bit. I decided to go with a simple design to make things a little smoother. I can alter it to your liking if you want a rod shaped stone design.
  10. It's hard to say. With the reference material, it will go way faster than having non at all. I'll see if I can work it out this week. I don't have any exams/tests/finals coming up, so I should be able to work on it.
  11. I sincerely apologize about being... tardy . As per murphy's law, things crop up when ya least expect. Not to mention you're forced to deal with them. Well, enough with the excuses. Here's a rather large upload of finished vector cutie marks. Special Note: I've updated the current request list to reflect the progression of requests towards completion for the more intricate cutie marks. I'll be temporarily closed to new requests for a little bit while I finished up the remaining cutie mark vectors. Had some fun with this one, and I tried to match it the best I could. I hope this is the right style/design for your character's cutie mark. I'm still up for making some cutie marks. Do you have some ideas/designs you want me to look at to tinker with? I've got a design down, but I'm not 100% thrilled with it. I'll be tweaking it just a bit and should hopefully have it done this week. I hope you like it. Here ya go. This was a definite challenge. I think it turned out rather nicely. If something is off, just give me a heads up. Here ya go. CM 1 CM 2
  12. Was gonna say I might have trouble accessing requests, but I'm glad to say I managed to resolve the issue. It looks like the forum updated its programming/coding, and my no-script program was targeting that bit of coding for the site. I'll be working on the requests tonight since I have some free time. I've got the list upfront of who's in the que, and I'll start tackling it. No worries. There are "plenty" of cuts that I can pick from in terms of gems. I'll just work with some ideas and see what I can pull off.
  13. quote name="Night Mist" post="3903003" timestamp="1435776750"] Could you make it three fall leaves no dew drop? Sure, do you have any particular type of leaf in mind?
