  1. I can see where you might thing the possibility a story could be too long (which I believe as long as you have a story to write, then it's just the right length), but I've never seen anyone worry about a story being too short (unless they really need to hit a minimum word count, which isn't an issue with fan fictions). In fact, there are genres of writing that are specifically for shorter styles. There are different kind of short stories that range from just 100 words, 500 words, or even six words. In fact, the shorter the story, the more skill it takes to do it right (you try writing a good six word story.) Don't worry about the length, just worry about making the best story you can.
  2. Both ponies are strong, fast and stubborn (which may or may not be considered as endurance). When they compete they are fairly neck and neck, and I'm pretty sure if they didn't get caught up in trying to sabotage each other, they probably would have tied in the Running of the Leaves (or it would be very close). Each do have their different strengths that really can't be compared to each other, but over all, Rainbow Dash and Apple Jack are fairly equal. Of course, it I were to compare accomplishments based off their skills in comparison to other earth ponies and pegasi (that's the plural of pegasus, right? I can never remember). Apple Jack in "The Last Roundup" got a few second place ribbons, and many third, forth and fifth place ribbons. While Rainbow Dash in "Wonderbolts Academy" was one of the best fliers at the academy. While she technically was second to Lightning Dust (Only beating her because Rainbow Dash thought about more than just going faster), she was still the best flier in the academy, beating all the others in every aspect of flying. So with those in consideration, I'd say Rainbow Dash.
  3. I was wondering about this myself. Personally I think it would be a cool idea, It would look better if they made them look like sea horses like in G1, or maybe even a horse head on a fish's body. I'm trying to picture the sort of mer-pony appearance, and that seems kind of creepy, but then again, sometimes things look better once they are actually made than when you're imagining them. That sounds cool too. Especially if they do something neat with the eyes that would make them look even more unique.
  4. I've finished reading what you have so far. I agree, the pacing is too quick. You don't give any time to build up suspense. If it's this easy to find the other ponies, then there's no conflict, and if there's no conflict then you're story is no different than "Johnny wanted ice cream, so he went the store. He bought an ice cream come and ate it on the way home. The end." Alright, maybe not that simplistic, but the point I'm trying to make is that without conflict there's no reason to follow the story. There's nothing holding the characters back from their goals and it doesn't seem like there's a chance that the characters can fail, and with no chance that the characters can fail, I already know the end of the story. This amulet seems infallible. It opens portals to different universes (and closes them up as well), it finds lost ponies and it returns their memories all within the course of a day or two. Not even Twilight (whose special talent is magic) can do all of that without seriously exhausting herself, so how is it that an amulet holds almost limitless power? It's a bit of a dux ex machina, that's really draining some of the power this story could have. Another issue I have is that Trixie is a bit out of character (well not out of character if she was wearing the Alicorn Amulet, but since this is after that episode, I'm guessing it's still hidden). She's also more foalish than she usually is. Also, if she wanted the power of the Alicorn Amulet back, then why didn't she interrogate the mane six for it's whereabouts, or even Zecora. I can see her being arrogant enough to think she could control Discord, but you suggest that Discord teamed up with her, and he's not exactly a team player (at least not until Fluttershy befriends him, but this is clearly set before that). But other than that, it's a really cool concept.
  5. This was a great episode. It was great seeing Screw Loose again, I just love the crazy ponies. It was funny watching Spike attempt to make the cake but he couldn't help snacking on the jewels. It reminds me of whenever I try to make chocolate chip cookies. Like most of the people here, it was awesome seeing Tank again, and I loved watching Rainbow Dash interact with him, especially that quick nuzzle goodbye before she left. Although, I kept wondering why Spike didn't just take off Tank's propellers. It would help keep Tank out of trouble. I think my favorite joke was Spike trying to chase after Angel so he put all the pets on leashes. I've tried putting my cats on a leash before, and they acted just like Opal did. Well, maybe not quite, they would just fall on their sides in a form of protest, but it was funny watching Spike trying to walk a cat. It was great seeing Spike's greedy side come out again. Not just in the way he couldn't control himself as he made the cake and the way he begged the others to pay him for taking care of their pets. I half expected Spike to grow again, but maybe he didn't have enough stuff to really spark that again.
  6. I think you mean "put" rather than "fut" (that's all I really caught but then I'm not always that great at catching things like that). I wouldn't have guessed that Princess Celestia was a title carried out by multiple ponies rather than an actual name. Although it does explain why the Celestia we see is so gentle and fun loving while the Celestia in the history books was more stern with her punishments. I just figured that over the past thousand years she had a lot to think about and realized her mistakes. However, from the show I did imagine that Celestia is dying, or at least running out of magic in some way (after all a thousand years of raising the sun and moon has got to take it out of a pony). Still, I do think you're idea is pretty neat.
  7. Well, Discord did say he'd only be good most of the time. LOL. I'm kind of wondering what kind of genre this ends up in. On one hand your story has a sense of horror and that something scary is happening, but on the other hand rainbow vomit and that things could get silly. The one thing that bugs me a little is your formatting. I feel that the big paragraph you have there could be separated into three paragraphs or so.
  8. I tried Twilight, but I don't think it worked. Then again, it probably wasn't a good idea to judge this thing because I picked my favorite pony. A pony who is my favorite because she and I share many similar traits such as introversion, a love of reading and a passion for learning, so even if it did work, I'm not sure if I'm capable of telling the difference. Maybe I should have picked a pony I'm the least like. Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Rainbow Dash are probably the least like me. Although whether or not I'm like Pinkie Pie depends on how much caffeine I've consumed. I'll try again with another pony. Besides, whether or not it will work for me doesn't really matter. These are nice to listen to either way.
  9. That's true. Ponyville has been around for hundreds of years, so that does mean that Granny Smith is hundreds of years old. But then how is it that so many legends are forgotten? I can get how the new generation doesn't know about them, but how is it that Nightmare moon took every pony by surprise? It would have barely been a few generations since Discord, Nightmare Moon and all of that. I get that a thousand years is a long time even for something that lives so long, but you'd think that this information would be in history books as fact rather as legend or old mare's tales.
  10. Well, if we knew how long a moon is in the mlp universe, then we'll be a bit closer to understanding because according to Apple Family Reunion, the last family reunion Apple Jack was at she was a baby, so we know she's a 100 moons, give or take. And we know that the others are younger than her. While this won't give us the life span, but if we know how old a young adult is for a pony (which is around the age area the mane six are), then it would give us a better sense of the length of their life cycle. Or perhaps how long Ponyville's been around, which will tell us how long Granny Smith has been around, and we can get a sense at how long it takes to reach the end of their life span (at least for Earth ponies). I know Princess Celestia is around a thousand years. Since Princess Luna's aging seemed to have been frozen by turning evil (judging by how short she was compared to Celestia after Nightmare Moon was stopped), I think it's not off to assume that Celestia and Luna were quite young when they had to deal with Discord, King Sombra, and all that stuff. However, now it seems Celestia is getting weak. Maybe raising the sun takes too much out of her, but it seems she avoids using magic if possible and when she does, she's quickly defeated. While the thing with Nightmare Moon could have just been a hesitation about attacking her sister, but when Queen Chrysalis attacked her, Celestia could barely offer her a challenge. It's clear that Celestia was quite powerful when she was younger. She fought her own battles and managed to raise the sun and the moon for a thousand years, but maybe she's just too old to keep going. I think it's possible that at just over a thousand years is close to the end of an alicorn's lifespan. I know a thousand years is enough time for events to fall into barely remembered stories, so I'm guessing most ponies don't live much longer than 100 years.
  11. Well, I don't know about the others, but I know that Apple Jack is about 100 moons old (give or take). What that means in human years I have no idea. And I know Apple Jack is the oldest of them all, so the others are at younger than a 100 moons. But over all, I guess the general consensus is that the ponies in the MLP universe have a similar lifespan to humans. I like this theory. Although, I know another way to figure out how old at least Granny Smith is, is to know how old Ponyville is, since she was one of the ponies who helped found the town, and that she was fairly young (although old enough to have discovered her cutie mark) when they started building. I guess we'll have an answer if there's ever an episode where ponies celebrate the founding of their town.
  12. I don't think he was that evil to begin with. I don't think he's ever going to be fully controlled and he'll still have his moments of chaos, which may or may not affect other ponies, but unless Fluttershy does something to betray him (which I doubt unless there's a really good reason for it) I doubt Discord would do anything to push away the only friend he's had in his immortal life.
  13. I've looked for this but I haven't found it. If there's already a thread that talks about this, then please point it out. I half want to know this for a fan fiction I'm writing but mostly out of curiosity. How long do ponies live in the MLP universe? I tried using Apple Family Reunion as a reference. But there are so many unknowns, like if 100 moons mean lunar cycles or if there's some other meaning behind the word. Also, even if it does mean lunar cycles, there's never been much reference to how the moon works beyond Luna does it. So maybe there's only four lunar cycles in a year, or even three in a month. Although, considering the last Apple family reunion was when Apple Jack was a baby, I doubt it's that often. Even then, even if I did know how often the reunions happen, or even exactly how many family reunions have happened, at best I would be able to get a general idea of how old Granny Smith is, who is still alive (at around age 50 if their lunar cycles are the same as ours, which means they do not age the same way horses and ponies age in our universe). So I've hit a dead end with that. So I was wondering if anyone else has any theories about the lifespan of the MLP ponies. Also, I wonder if there's any age difference between unicorns, pegasus and Earth Ponies. I know there's a major age difference between the alicorns and the other ponies, but I wonder what kind of age differences there are between the different types of ponies.
  14. I've been rolling this idea in my head for the past little while. What if Celestia is running out of magic? She's powerful enough to raise the sun, and yet she was knocked down by Queen Chrysalis with one hit. I know it's explained that she got so much love from Shining Armor that she's now super powerful, but what if Celestia is just weak after a thousand years of managing day and night as well as running a country, and I'm sure there have been more than a few villains she had to fight alone before Twilight unlocked the Elements of Harmony. She won't tell any pony about it because that might cause worry and panic because every pony depends on her. From what I've gathered from Celestia, she's the kind of pony who would put on a brave face and a fake smile because she doesn't want anyone to worry about her. She needs Discord because she needs to delegate more and more responsibilities to others because she no longer has the power to properly run things. Maybe she's even getting ready to retire the way most royalty does.
  15. I would want to be a unicorn because 1) magic powers are awesome, 2) ponies don't have hands and horns make turning book pages (and a whole lot of other things) a lot easier, and 3) I will no longer be limited to right hand, left hand and mouth when it comes to holding things. Of course, knowing how things are, if I were suddenly turned into a pony, I would probably be an Earth pony because that just seems how the world works, but if I had the choice I would be a unicorn. I have considered pegasus before, and flying would be wonderful, but I'm not sure it's for me. I suck at flying even in the dreamscape where physics don't matter. I'm good at gliding, but I'm more of a feet on the ground kind of girl.
  16. I enjoy the fannon and I think fannon affects my view of the whole fannon universe, but it doesn't affect my view of the show. Other than the search for Doctor Whooves in the background, I can pretty much separate the fannon from the main cannon. I see them as happening in many different universes, with only vague interactions with each other. I spend most of my time in the tumblr based fan MLP universes. My favorite one right now is Discorded Doctor Whooves. It's the perfect combination of two of my fandoms mixed with an anti-hero, I can't get enough of it.
  17. Now that there's this promise for Discord to appear in future episodes, this episode is making me wonder if we might just get an episode where Discord sings. I would love to hear Discord sing. I was initially hoping for a villain song, but I'll take anything. I for one think that the ending wasn't rushed. Anyone who's spent long amounts of time alone or felt as if they were friendless knows how painful it is, and I can see why Discord would change his mind so quickly when he realizes that he could lose (possibly the very first) pony who showed him patience and kindness, a pony who wasn't threatening him with imprisonment for doing what comes naturally to him. Considering how long Discord's lived, I'm sure he's aware that a life with restrictions is much preferable than living with the pain of loneliness. Also, right now I really want to know what Celestia's relationship with Discord was like before the whole turning him to stone thing. Maybe I'm just over analyzing, but at the end, while the others were showing embarrassment, Celestia seemed to be expressing guilt. I know I'm not the only one who noticed this, and I don't think she's showing the same expression as the others. It makes me wonder if Celestia was once in the position to have been Discord's friend, but rejected him.
  18. Thank you. Right now I'm working on a pretty big fan fiction, and by the end I hope it becomes an epic. Still it's going to be a while before I post it anywhere because I like to finish the first draft completely before I start polishing things up, but I do have a few short stories I'll post here eventually.
  19. Hi, I'm Rose. This is my first time on any MLP forums. I've been watching My Little Pony since season 1. I've been mostly hanging around the brony section of meme base and most of my contact with the fan base is my younger brother. My favorite pony is Twilight Sparkle because we both spend so much time with books that we sometimes forget there are other people/ponies out there. Although, my favorite character is Discord. What can I say? I just like the smooth, intelligent and rightfully confident villain. I'm a writer so I'll probably be posting some fan fictions once I get accustomed to this place.
