I don't think she will. One thing I can say for my daughter is that she's very, very observant. It helps that she likes to read and is already reading near a 2nd-Grade level. She's very good at following plot and just seemed less than thrilled because she wanted to know where Twilight was going after this. My husband and I made it a point to not color her interpretation. I just thought it interesting that she was also wondering what all this was for.

My daughter finally got to watch the episode. She audibly gasped during the transformation sequence and such, but at the end of the episode she seemed less than thrilled. I asked her if she was disappointed and she said yes - the story was good, but she didn't understand why Twilight became a princess. She's 7. :\

That's probably the most logical explanation I've seen yet. Bravo, bravo! The way I would describe it is that the Mane Six's elements of harmony are like the basis for one big cutie mark. Once Twi discovers how to use them all (the spell), she grows a new epic cutie mark. You could allude it to the fact that learning never stops. She's just in magic "college" now where as she was in magic "high school" before. Still, the episode leaves much to be desired.

I so agree with you. This leaves too many questions unanswered, like: "Why did Starswirl write that spell in the first place? Was he trying to change his destiny? Become an alicorn? And, again, just WHAT is Twilight the princess of? Harmony? Magic? And why did Princess Celestia choose NOW to send that book? Was the solution simple because Twilight has come so far in her understanding of friendship that the magical answers to her problem just suddenly come nowadays? WHAT'S GOING ON?!?!?!?!?!" It's been said she might be the princess of Ponyville or some such, but even that doesn't make sense. If so, will there be a princess in every town? All around a VERY disappointing episode. Too rushed, too little - it seems like they made her an alicorn JUST to make her an alicorn. And beyond that? It feels like the series is going to end on.....THIS. Ugh. Disappointing! Oh, and PS: The imagery and songs were beautiful, so it wasn't a total waste....though they could have done without one or two of the songs and put in some more dialogue!

Ok... so my question remains: PRINCESS OF WHAT, EXACTLY?!?!?! Mine's not "liquid pride", it's "liquid confusion"!!!!!!! D: Is she taking over Equestria? Is she replacing Luna and Celestia? If Starswirl was so awesome, why did he suck so bad? WTF?!?!?!?!?! (What the friendship is going on?!?!?) This episode didn't ANSWER anything!!!! Waaaaaaah!

Just dropping' in my two bits! ^-^ (I also JUST found out about this yesterday because I didn't see season 3 episode 11 until then. Imagine my surprise!)

I am a little disappointed where the show is taking Twilight as well... I saw all the symbolism in her name and what she was trusted to do, especially being that Twilight is between the night and day. Plus, assuming Celestia and Luna will not be around forever, who would replace them? It makes sense that they would fashion a pony who is capable of managing magic the way Celestia and Luna seem capable. However... it always struck me that Twilight would become more like the fabled Starswirl the Bearded, and maybe it would be revealed that she was his descendant. To me, that made more sense. Perhaps it is what will happen and she will be a Princess of Magic. But it seems by all accounts that she's being groomed to follow Celestia to the throne and I am not sure I like that very much. It puts her above the Mane Six in a way that I can't see reconciling. And poor Luna. I feel very sorry for her. She's always eclipsed in some way (no pun intended.) No one has ever stipulated that pegasus and earth ponies *can't* achieve the same ascension in status (or even become alicorns themselves). Pinkie Pie was able to quadruplicate and then some using a magic pond, so there are other sources of magic ponies can utilize. I do agree, however, that some focus should be given to the rest of the Mane Six in pursuing their goals. Rainbow Dash came close at the Wonderbolts Academy, but that didn't end up being resolved. Rarity is still going at it... and Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Applejack seem quite content where they are now, but it still leaves many questions concerning their destinies. One thing I don't particularly care for is how this throws off the balance of the Mane Six. There were two pegasus, two earth ponies and two unicorns. Now there's just one unicorn. That's nitpicky to be sure, but it was a nice dynamic that showed off the races' strengths and differences.
