  1. Bonus points for the irony.  It's kind of interesting, though...it's considered acceptable to attribute human attributes to some kinds of characters, but not so much to others.

Yes, of course you can apply human attributes to characters, but expecting EVERY SINGLE HUMAN ATTRIBUTE, like say, the way age works, is what I was pointing out. Also, what irony?

  2. The link doesn't work at all. :/ Did you remove the image or is the url inserted incorrectly all together. Otherwise, you should update it so I can see it.

Oh, sorry; it worked for me; I tried fixing it just now; try again. For some reason, deviantArt does this sometimes I guess? I dunno heh

  3. I used to be in a Harry Potter writing game where I played Snape's estranged wife that no one knew about.  I didn't have any interest in the series until I found that Alan Rickman was in the movies, I saw the movie and I was hooked. I've read the books, gone to midnight premiers in costume and had a ball.

I was really into Harry Potter 5 and a half years ago, and I appreciate it a lot but I don't really consider myself a "fan." I did get sorted into Ravenclaw, though. :P

So... this is great and all, but... nothing to say about my picture? :P Just wondering... It's why I posted a link to it in this thread. Hehe, 100 characters...

  4. Well thinking in the long-term I would say you should try to do more full-body art so you can get a better sense of how all the parts of a character fit together rather than drawing some part that looks good and then realizing that it's actually an extremely awkward position.

As for the actual drawing, you seem to have a good grasp of shading as a tool for dramatic effect but not so much for defining three dimensional form or the general spatial dynamics of lighting. There also seems to be some slightly poorly informed decisions with regards to keeping things in frame, specifically the left side of the necklace is distorted rather than allowing the pattern to extend beyond what is depicted, or extending the whole image in order to fit it at the right scale. The wing also appears to follow no real anatomical direction, appearing as a vague blob and far more angular than it should be. The pose and coloration are good though, and the overall composition is effective (though it does feel more imposing than majestic).

    Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Well, I just made this up as I went along; didn't go into it with any idea, hence the awkward fitting into frame. Also, I've done some full-body pony pics, but nothing really inked and colored; just rough sketches really :P

I don't really go for 3-dimensional feel in many pictures, but it is something I've been thinking about trying. The necklace and the wing I got REALLY lazy on; I should have used more shading to imply the wing is bent, or at least more lines to show that. And, yeah, it IS more imposing than majestic lol

  5. This is your FIRST?!?!?!?!! Did I read that right???? This Is amazing. It needs to be colored like a propaganda poster and have "Obey" underneath it lol. So cool.

Yes, my first. And, yeah, I have been thinking it looks kinda... totalitarian, but I prefer to think of it as majestic (plus, the Celestia OBEY pic has been done a bit I think, still funny)

  6. Your sure this is your first pony picture, your at least not new to drawing, this picture is amazing.. It will probably end up in a Drawfriend post.. I can tell you one thing, and im sure i don't even have too, but you should really draw more ponies, you have what it takes.. This is just as amazing as any other art i've seen, she is definitely with the better pictures i've seen.. I can't really criticize her, it's just a very special pose, it's majestic. Just like Celestia should be, but tell me, are you used to drawing in general?

    Keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for your long comment n__n

First off, what's a Drawfriend post?

Second, yes, I'm very used to drawing; the rest if my deviantArt gallery can attest to that :P

Amazing! I absolutely love the style and pose, very outstanding job for one of your first pony arts. You should really do more if you can, I'm sure everyone would love it if they liked this one!

    Thank you very much n__n

Yes, I would love to do more pony pictures. I have, in fact (2 more recent ones in my dA gallery, however they aren't nearly as great as the Celestia pic; I feel I kinda got lucky with this one :P

  7. Oh, that looks really good! You did a great job. Especially on the shades on her fur... it's just... stunning. :)

    You, sir, deserve more replies.

Thank you. Wish more people felt that way. But since I need to fill at least 100 characters, I'm going to type more here, see? Okay, is that enough? lol

    For real, though, thanks n__n

  8. Looking good buddy. You got some shadowing going on there buts it not overly complex, you an attempt at some posture. It pretty close to the shows style and that some study at times if your not used to cartoony stuff-like me- and theres even a nice simple black background to contrast against the white character. I like what you have done with the glasses, simple reflection but nice little changes in tone. It doesn't really pop out though.

A little bit more flash with those lenses might spark it up a little but I wouldn't say its really needed. What could help it though is changing the color of the middle of the record disc, just slap some brown or red. Something to make her own body stand out, right now its all sort of blend most of torso and absorbs some of her focus, a little shine on the rims of that  too of that black record won't go amiss, I don't think it will over shadow her in the foreground. The only other thing I could Maaaybe...say about her is...

her head comes off as a little big...weighted even when compared to her legs. That could just be me though, not totally sure on that one. I can't tell if its me or the way her neck is bent. So...that opinion isn't very useful really.

Well, I'm still getting used to the design, close to the cartoon or not. And wow, I don't know how I didn't think to not use a white vinyl label XD I guess I was too focused on what vinyl to use that I didn't think "hey, it's light!" I'll change that part real quick. The head size, though, harder to change; I'll just attempt to fix that proportion on my next picture.

[edit] I fixed it! (i hope XD)

  9. for now yes\. if you feel up to it try to dial back the shows over cartoonyness  when you draw them.if that makes sense. i have to see how you do with drawing them in poses first though. then i can tell you what to change if there is anything that needs to be

I think I can try a less cartoony style, but I assume not too realistic, right? I can at least make it look less like the show style

okay, here's something I did for a few hours

I know it's still cartoony, but it's my first time doing a fully colored and everything pony picture. I can try to start deviating from here

  10. I am a writer (though I have no stories online anywhere, I do have a published comic and have been doing this a good while) and I, too, am interested in pursuits such as what you've mentioned. I've been studying the animation market to see what's wanted and such. I'm interested in hearing what you have. If you want to talk, just reply or message me or whatever :P
