  1. Sorry, everypony. I've been horribly busy since I came home for Easter. So I've not been able to keep up with this much. Sorry to keep everyone waiting.

Nurse Jenny? And you had to pay for a pokemon? What's going on?

Although I like the idea of having a second Breeder. As my character Drew is essentially one. He was raised by the Day Care Couple, after all...

Would your character be able to play judge in battles between our players?

Alright. Here is a revised edition of my application. Nurse Jenny was just a brain fart. I apologize for that. It's the 'J' I swear. Also, yes. I would be happy to judge for battles.

Also, as for the purchasing of pokemon, we have seen it before in several cases. The man selling the magikarp and the Porygon in the casino as just two examples. In the financial capital of almost half the world, finding pokemon for sale in Johto wouldn't really be that much of a stretch. Look at it in the way of puppies at the pet store. Do you need to spend that much on a dog? Not at all. Most shelters will adopt out animals for insanely cheap. But people still buy those puppies.

Now then, onto the actual application rewording. Also, I can change my Vulpix to something else if need be. I didn't know there was already one here. I admit, I skipped ahead a bit in the thread.

But before you start your journey, tell me a little about yourself. Growing up in Goldenrod City is never easy. With each new gadgit or gizmo available there was a new inner city war between boasting children. I was never one of those kids. My parents work in the shops that sell those fancy toys. We never really made enough to keep us up to date. What we did have however, was a yard.

It was in this yard that my Great Uncle Jeffery taught me about Pokemon. Those other kids could keep their lame, lifeless toys. I would rather have a loving, living pokemon to spend my time with. Unfortunately, getting a Pokemon in a big city is almost just as challenging as getting a new phone.

So, starting when I was 10 years old, I saved my money. Whether it be allowance or trash pickup, I kept at it. Granted, I didn't have to do all that work if I didn't want to. But I couldn't have just any Pokemon. My heart was set on Vulpix. With Vulpix being what they are, they were pricey. I took it one step further than that however and sought after a male Vulpix. Almost twice the price of a female thanks to their rarity. I was 14 when I finally got my Vulpix, just hatched from his egg.

Now that I am 22 years old, I have quite a bit of travel under my belt. I have been to every city within Johto now at least once except for New Bark Town and Cherrygrove. Nothing against small towns, but they have just never interested me. Through my travels I was able to get ahold of another Vulpix. A female of course. This was the start of my new lot in life. Pokemon Breeding. That is what I do now.

Now that you know some of my history, you will probably want to know about my personality. My mannerisms growing up have changed quite a bit. I have been told I can be blunt and sometimes down right rude. Those people can go lick a Wobbuffet.

I do admit that I have a temper sometimes. Especially with technology. I just can't work those stupid gizmos. I tend to let Jean-Luc, my Vulpix, incinerate the dumb contraptions.

I also tend to threaten Nurse Joy every time one of them says, "We hope to see you again soon." But what decent nurse would say that!?

Other than that, I think I am a great person!

Now tell me. Are you a boy? Or are you a girl? Girl

Now, what did you say your name was? Krysta

How old are you? I already said 22.

Where do you call home? Goldenrod is my home town.

What is your dearest ambition? (Are you a trainer, or a coordinator?) Pokemon Breeder actually. My goal is to spread awareness of little known Pokemon facts throughout the region that can only be learned through breeding. As it stands right now I sell the baby Vulpix I am surprised with every so often, of course making sure they go to good homes.

Have you traveled before, practicing your craft in other regions? No other regions, but I have Johto pretty much in the bag.

What Pokémon will be your partner, from the very beginning? (Under certain conditions, I will allow you two to start with.) A male Vulpix named Jean-Luc and a female Vulpix I caught later named Antoinette.

What do you look like? I am, as they say, a Plain Jane. I am rather tall however at 6'2". I weigh less than Antoinette however. For some reason I can never keep any weight on. Must be all this running around I do while learning about breeding.

I have blond hair that I cut into a bob for convenience and comfort. With normal brown eyes to tie everything together I am by far nothing special. And to be honest, I am happier that way. I learned a long time ago that both boys and girls are just far too much of a hassle. The less they 'check me out' the better.

Are we done now? I have things I need to get done.

  3. Goodness. I was not prepared for this thread at all. Nope. Not even the tiniest bit.

Look at how terribly I fit in here. If more people read the threads before posting on them awkward moments like this could be avoided entirely.

  4. So! I spied this little area a while back but I didn't join up until recently.

Here I am now, not only joined but throwing some of my work out there!

Before any of you get started yes it is a Human in Equestria Fic. Also, it is not fun and games. There are some moments that would absolutely disqualify this story as anything happy or care free.

Now that I have said that, here is the story.

    http://www.fimfiction.net/story/46879/the-gray-area

I would love to hear what you all have to say about it! Critique is encouraged, as a writer can never stop learning.

  5. That is if it is handled correctly in other words she dosen't just become as powerful as Celestia or Luna right away and learns to control this in a sensible time frame in other words slowly over time because if she does become that powerful that quickly then exactly where does she have to go as a character at that point?

There are any number of things that could happen.

First off, say she is instantly uber powerful. What for? Will she take over for either Luna or Celestia? Very doubtful, but the idea is there.

If she stays with her friends, which we know is fact as stated by several sources, what happens then with her new uber powers? Honestly? She will probably blow something up. There is always the chance that she will have to learn how to control her new found abilities. A completely different way of looking at power gain. Great power does nothing but harm if it isn't focused.

Say she has uber powers and complete control over them. For argument's sake, she is as strong as Celestia and she knows exactly how to use all of her powers.

Well, she will still be entirely OCD, she will still have almost no practical skills, she will still have her bit of social awkwardness, and she will still have to deal with raising Spike properly while making sure to not lose the friends that got her the wings in the first place. All these things simply cannot be fixed with magic, no matter how powerful it is or how skilled at magic she might be. That is what we love about the character.

    • Brohoof 1
  6. True but by overpowered I and many others who make this argument mean so stupidly and unjustifiably overpowered that story wise it makes absolutely no sense. Gandalf is supposed to be overpowered because he is like the Merlin of his series, Voldermort being overpowered makes sense because as the main antagonist he supposed to be the ultimate bad guy, Superman's power levels have varied depending on who is doing the writing and the version so you can't possibly even begin to count him.

Twilight is already overpowered due to her years of training as Celestia's apprentice, her natural talent and being the element of magic on top of that but it nevertheless still makes sense storywise and prevents her from being a Mary Sue because it is not like she just woke up one day and was able to perform high level unicorn spells.

During the beginning of the series she had trouble performing several spells which are now second nature to her so she has showed a natural growth throughout the series which makes sense. But her becoming an alicorn which undoubtedly gives her a major power boost at this point makes not sense because there was not nearly enough buildup and development leading up to it making the transformation feel extremely abrupt and rushed. The good news is that she hasn't become a Mary Sue yet and this can still work if Hasbro lets the writers do their job. She may get a massive power boost from this but there is also the matter of controlling this power if done right Twilight could slowly leaern how to control this power over the course of a few seasons thus saving her from the fate of Mary Suedom.

That is just it. Say she does get a huge power boost. Say that she does become another Luna or Celestia. Why would that make her a Mary Sue?

You are right in saying that all of those people are not Mary Sues because of their roles. Well, that same argument applies to Twilight. She is arguably the main character of the show, trained for years with the princess herself, and has a talent for magic underlying all of that. Especially through work.

She is not "overpowered". That is who she is and what she does period. You saw her try to deal with animals and what not during winter wrap-up. If it isn't academic or magical, she kinda sucks at it.

Even if she gets this so called power boost and becomes amazing at magic, it will never make her a mary sue. The definition just doesn't work that way.

    • Brohoof 1
  7. This is the one thing that always seems to pop up that I must entirely disagree on.

"Twilight is aproaching Mary Sue Territory."

I not only think that it is incorrect but I am disappointed to see it thrown around as such. Mary Sue is NOT just how powerful the character is. Mary sue deals with many different aspects of the character.

If we were to use the currently accepted definition of Mary Sue, characters like Gandalf, Voldemort, Superman, Power Girl, and even Timmy Turner with his access to infinite wishes would all be Mary or Gary Sues. Strictly because of how powerful they are.

What makes it so they are NOT Mary Sues are how their weaknesses and characterizations are pulled off in each piece of media and entertainment they have shown up in.

Look at Twilight for example. Lesson Zero being the biggest one. She went batshit nutso over something as silly as being tardy. She is so OCD that almost everyone in the show visibly cringes whenever she goes off on one of her spurts.

She has very little confidence in herself as can be seen by not only how she acts about assignments, but also in Boast Busters when she refused Trixie's challenge.

Of course, these things are quite a bit less prevelant as it sits now, but that is because she is literally growing as a character. They all have since that very first episode.

Fluttershy saying NO to dragon migration, Applejack no longer afraid to ask for help, Rainbow Dash not being a complete tool anymore, etc etc.

As Tara Strong and several others have said, Twilight with wings is not what we are afraid it is. She is still the same pony with the same problems with the same friends. To walk away from the show now or to strongly dislike Twilight before we see season 4 can only be chalked up to how she looks. Not what kind of character she is.

  8. I have merged your topic with this already existing one, since the purpose of both is the same. Please use the search function to check if a suitable thread already exists before creating your own.

I was aware this topic existed. I just feel that it is a little too convoluted.

I wanted a more stream lined thread just for simple answers. This defeats that purpose.

  9. Hello everyone.

I have had a thought for a while now and I finally found a way I think to put it together.

I would like to know what you like or dislike about Twilight becoming an Alicorn.

Now, humor me for a moment.

What I want to see is one good reason to either like or dislike the change. Now, obviously, this is just a request! However. in order to avoid literal congestion I think keeping it simple will do the most good.

So! Here is my thoughts on the matter.

    ~

    I am pro Princess Twilight.

I believe that making Twilight a princess was a fun and creative way of growth within the limitations of the telivision show that the writers wanted to portray.

    ~

That is it! Short, sweet, and easy! In this way, we can all read up on what everyone elses thoughts are about the topic and cover as much ground as possible without actually seeing season 4.

    Happy posting!

P.S. When I say "good" reason, I mean that "I hate it because it is stupid" or "I love it because I totally called it" don't really seem like they would qualify. Hm?

  10. I am quite shocked and appalled at the fact at your hypocrisy and unwillingness to admit it. Has there been any indication of me "blowing a gasket," so to speak? No, there hasn't. You're shoving words into my mouth, and I am no longer arguing this with you, because this is just turning into a circle of "I'm right, you're wrong."

    Good day sir or madam.

Shocked and appalled? Hypocrisy? About what?! What am I being a hypocrite about? Pleas enlighten me. I would also like to see where I "shoved words into your mouth." You won't find either.

I can however show you exactly where you are acting up enough that a 'calm down' is warranted.

    First:

"First off, I've been on the internet for years and frequent 4chan and several other sites that I'd rather not name, thank you very much."

Instant defensive stature with a sarcastic "thank you" at the end.

    Second:

"I can't express my opinion without being told to calm down and shut up."

Untrue ASSumptions that not only insults almost everyone here, but especially myself. By the way, THIS isa great example of shoving words into someone elses mouth.

    Third:

"if you'd refrain from personally mocking me or any other members with your post"

Another unfair and untrue ASSumption that was made in the throes of emotional turmoil caused by your need of confrontation.

That is all this is! Your want of conflict. You come here and say this and that about people telling you to calm down? Why? What reason could you possibly have to bring it up other than try and bring out some sort of argument?

It is possible that you were looking for like minded people which is fair enough. But I doubt that. Even the title of this post is confrontational.

    "What bothers me about pro-twilicorns."

That just screams negativity. You want to know what I think? I think you are trying to play the vitcim. And now that I have called you out on the silliness, you pull back and attempt to move it away from the topic.

You started this topic. You began the conversation with your very first post. Now either man up and finish it, or take my post as it was intended and have a laugh. It is your choice.

Also, it is indeed Madam. If you had bothered to simply look at my profile you would have seen that, Sir.

  11.

Ooook. Now here is the part where I do have to seriously tell you to calm down.

    My post was 90% joking.

I didn't just quote you. I literally said the EXACT same thing to Francis, who is taking it exactly as he should! As a joke to laugh at and be merry.

Hypocrite? No. I am no hypocrite. Neither are you as a matter of fact.

But to put it simply, yes! It does look like you are freaking out! And yes, it DOES look like you need to be told to calm down. You are right. Complaining is different then blowing a gasket. But guess what you are doing right this moment? If you chose blowing a gasket, give yourself a gold star.

The fact that you automatically became defensive is proof of that.

NO ONE here said anything about "shutting up". You are putting words into our collective mouths. And if you do come across people who say to shut up, IGNORE THEM! Pirate code my man. Pirate code.

In the mean time, of course you will be told to calm down. And you will continue to be told to calm down the more you act exactly as you are right this moment!

    To quote myself,

You don't want to be told calm down? Pick your battles a little better. Talk to the right people. If you want your opinion heard, find someone who will listen. Don't expect everyone else to just fall in line. Because that, is the pile of feces sitting on the sidewalk.

And there you have it. Need I repeat myself?

  12. PS: Your princess considers people who like her rival to be enemies who must be attacked and destroyed?  That's a bit tyrannical...

You shut your mouth you neigh sayer!!!* Princess Sparkle is kind and generous and perfect in every way!!!!!11!!1!1one!!

Everything is perfect! The mandatory 12 hour study hall period, the mandatory in street marching, and mandatory check lists for every day tasks are all perfect as perfect can be!

    *breaths*

I mean, um... Yes! Tyrannical. Iron hoof and what not. All that jazz. Sure dislike that twilight character.

    *see that I did there?

  13. Thank you very much for the warm welcome!

Wow! You all are awesome! I didn't think I would get such reception on my first forum post!

You make me feel loved!

  14. Wait, I'm confused... Are you firing on all cylinders at me, or to everyone. If the first, I'm a bit scared. If the second, then you're my kind of person.

I'm a person who loves criticizing EVERYONE, myself included.

I'm a special breed of complainer: I complain about myself!

Everyone my dear! Everyone who has ever complained ever!

That is the whole idea! Complaining on the internet is, well, I think the picture takes care of that pretty darn well.

I was just quoting you because you rock my socks off.

  15. Oh...celestia...breath...wooo...

Just read all the posts in a few minutes. Give me a sec to catch my breath.

    Woooooooo....breath anna...ok, I think I am good.

    First off,

Note that, in this situation, you have these groups:

Proponents: Ardent supporters of the... Twilicorn. Generally, people who try to say it's all awesome and all that lame fluffy crap.

Opponents: People suffering from either chronic/acute butthurt or incredible concentrations of angst. They hate the... Twilicorn.

Peacemakers: People who want to be different, so they try agreeing with two totally contradictory sides in order to end up a winner.

And people like me who use analytics to try and get people to realize how stupid this fighting can be.

You rock my socks off Veronica.

Second, this is all rather silly isn't it? I am not sure how often Twiliscael or Francis wander off into the wastes of the internet. But I think you should.

You think you are the only ones who are told to "calm down?" Everyone, everywhere, is told to calm down about this subject.

Why do people usually tell others to calm down? Or should I say, what is the most common reason to tell someone to calm down?

When they are upset right? When they are yelling or crying or are somehow noticeably operating outside of their normal personalities.

Maybe, just maybe, you were told to calm down because you were literally giving them reason to tell you to calm down. You tell us to respect your opinion. Fine, done. It's respected. Now calm down before you blow a gasket.

Running on full steam is NOT a way to avoid "calm down." In fact, it is more detrimental than you could possibly know.

NO ONE is "looking down on you". NO ONE here is insulting you or claiming that you are stupid or any other such nonsense.

And if someone has said such a thing, ignore it.

I use this as my "pirate code".

    complaintsafe_zps2b7f70ad.jpg

And just like that, BAM. Instant satisfaction.

Pro Alicorn folks have been told to calm down too ya know.

You don't want to be told calm down? Pick your battles a little better. Talk to the right people. If you want your opinion heard, find someone who will listen. Don't expect everyone else to just fall in line. Because that, is the pile of feces sitting on the sidewalk.

    Few quick points.

You can express you distaste, one of the problems is that it has been done way too many times before the episode even aired and even more times after it aired. Good point or bad point, if you keep repeating it 50 times a hour, it gets annoying eventually.

If you are being told to calm down a lot, chances are you are being hysterical about something. Mind you, I don't know if you were.

You don't have to respect the decisions of the writers at all. Not even a little bit. The problem here is tho, that you have to accept them, because you don't have a say in the matter. You can be the bitter drunk guy in the corner who keeps yelling about the unfairness of the world or you can just go on with your life, but you have to accept it either way.

Don't make a war out of this. "Oh, look at me I'm oppressed minority, but I'm making a stand here! Even tho I'm not really a minority or making a stand." does not help. Creating a problem and then dividing people over it never works. Well, unless flame - grief wars is your aim. You're angry about what happened? Write a letter to Hasbro instead of taking it out on others around the fandom just because they perhaps don't mind it that much.

Frankly tho, it's the first point. It's been said way too many times, agree or disagree with Twilly princess, it became annoying to almost everyone. Again, you can't do anything, so why not just wait and see what the'll do with this "situation" in S04?

Or you can just read this post. Jessper put it a lot better than I did while I was searching for that picture.

    You rock Jessper.

  16. Nope! No need for that! No sirie bob! Not even a little bit!

All hail the mighty and amazing trixie!

Woohoooo! That is us! Trixie fans! Who likes Twilight? Pfffft. That lame filly. So what if she is like a princess and genuis? Nothing compared to Trixie! Booo Princess Twilight! BOOOOO!!!.

    Dear Princess Sparkle,

I didn't mean it. Please don't moon me.

    Your faithful spy,

    Annakavanna.

  17. What? I see nothing out of the ordinary here!

Nope! Everything looks just fine. Ignore that scroll I just sent off. It was just my uh, shopping list! Yep. My shopping list for my room mate to get while I am out.

  18. Dear Princess Sparkle,

First day among these ponies has already proven beneficial. By using Trixie's face as my avatar they assumed my loyalty and led me straight to their lair. It could not be any more perfect.

I am sending the coordinates now with this letter, as well as what I think would be the best plan of attack. I will of course bow to your superior wisdom however.

    Your most faithful spy,

    Annakavanna

Well hi everypony! Thanks for pointing this out to me Firebolt! I sure like that Trixie pony!

  19. Goodness. This is a succesful topic necromancy spell if I have ever seen one!

Good on you other poster who managed to get this topic back up and running! Impressive!

As for the actual topic, there have been many points given all around, but I believe Missderpy had it correct.

They are bigger because they are the rulers. But they are still ponies!

As far as the actual biology of pony vs horse, there is very little difference in the long run.
