  1. I feel that way all the time... like with this thread right here. I keep asking myself "What am I really contributing?" Well... what AM I really contributing right now?
  2. Well, agreeing or disagreeing should not have an impact on love & tolerate. One should be able to disagree and still be as respectful and friendly as one is towards a person with similar opinions to one's own. That is the tricky part, but frankly the only acceptable attitude. There is seldom any real reason for arguments to get unfriendly, and I think the MLP fandom sets a pretty high bar. But do I have to love and tolerate people who do not love or tolerate me to live up to L&T standards? Is L&T a 120% pacifist attitude?
  3. Did somepony say pretentious? Here's my pretty much permanent top 3: *Magnolia *Apocalypse Now *Mulholland Dr. Least favorite movie (well, most overrated at least): *sigh* Donnie Darko - Yes, I know a lot of people love this movie but to me it is the worst "weird" movie I have ever seen, and I like David Lynch movies. The plot is just ridiculous to me.
  4. Sweetie Pie... no thanks. Too sweet. It makes sense at least. Well, If I use my second name instead of my first I get... Twilight... Pie... Well, I love me some twilight pies!
  5. Okay, so this time I'm not all that happy about the results. I once again tried to copy a picture, but I switched the character around (from rainbow to AJ). I also tried to do a front view. I felt like I ran into some problems. Buck-up list: *This is actually a bit unfinished. Her right ear is missing. The thing is in most views of AJ her mane covers her ear, but I made the mane too small (or perhaps the ear to big again?), because that is not happening. I redrew the mane a few times, but eventually I called it a day. *The front legs are perhaps too skinny, and the hind leg is weird. *I don't know why, but I get pissed when I look at this. Tonight, I will try to not copy anything specific really, but draw more freely (I will probably need to look at some stuff for reference though). That is probably a better creative exercise, as some of you have pointed out. Also, I will not do a front view again for a while, cause that was like a completely different thing.
  6. Yup, I have turned into a CMC-fan. Their episodes are probably the funniest in the entire show. And their slightly naive, childish and adventurous charm is adorable.
  7. I think both the show and the fandom most definitely affects people in a positive way towards an L&T lifestyle irl, almost unavoidably. Also, I have found nothing but remarkably friendly behavior on these forums, so I really don't understand what you're referring to. However, I do stay away from even looking at politically charged threads, so maybe that's why. Threads like that usually tend to be a recipe for social disaster, sadly. That being said, there needs to be a place for healthy debate, even of more controversial topics. I can say for myself though, that even if MLP didn't really teach me about love and tolerate, I certainly feel a lot more positive about both myself and people around me after watching the show, and after hanging out on these forums. The only time I think it is okay to NOT love and tolerate, is when the other person does not have an L&T attitude.
  8. Thanks again everypony! For yesterdays drawing, I pretty much looked at one single image as a reference and tried to copy that. The result looks quite a bit better. Now, learning how to copy a style is one thing, but I have no idea how to handle the day when I want to come up with a completely original pose or perspective. But that's a later problem. One step at a time. Buck-ups (not that many, I believe): *Once again, the tail is sloppily drawn. *Her left eye placement might not be 100%, but I think I'm nitpicking myself a bit here. *The basic shape of the head looks a bit too round, it's like a ball or something. Other notes: Proportions are at least getting better. I am quite happy with the body this time. Now, when I look at the source picture, the body is turned towards the viewer a lot more. I could not really figure out how to do this properly, and did not really notice it until I drew the legs and saw that my hind legs were a lot farther away from the front legs than in the source picture. Interesting. Now, you mentioned that I should find my own style in the end, and not just copy the show 100%. I agree, but I'm not at all mature enough yet to move in that direction. For now, I won't stray to far away from looking at reference pictures, even if yesterdays drawing didn't turn out that imaginative or creative. Also, today I bought a sketch book and a new pencil, so I actually have something to draw on/with.
  9. I watch Let's Plays and review videos for ever and ever. That really kills some time. I dabble with music making for like 15 minutes. And as of recently, I browse these forums quite a lot.
  10. Wow, thanks a lot for all the feedback. Like some of you said, I guess I shouldn't force myself to draw every day if I don't feel like it or if I'm too busy, but I'll see when that occurs. I have a tendency to get lazy and just quit a lot of things permanently though, so in a way I must force myself sometimes to get anything done. Now, this is what I drew yesterday after watching drawing tutorial that I saw posted in another thread. I drew this immediately after yesterdays post so I had not yet read any comments. Buck-ups: *Proportions are off, the body is too small for the head I believe. *Eye placement looks off. *The tail looks a bit lazy. *Is the ear really supposed to be that big? Other notes: Midway through, I remembered that I was supposed to draw Twilight, which is why the eye is the wrong shape and such. In the end I gave her a different cutie mark as a cop-out. (The number 2, since this was my second drawing, how creative of me.) I'll look at more videos and try to take your advice into account tonight.
  11. Looks awesome for a beginner! I'm also just starting out drawing, but you are probably doing better actually.
  12. When I was browsing through the Fan Art section yesterday, I became so jealous of inspired by some ponies artistic abilities that I decided to draw a pony myself. I grabbed what I had access to (a ballpoint pen and a paper with some printed text on it), to see if I could draw anything whatsoever. I have never really been drawing at all before this, so I was pretty happy with the (quite flawed) result. Drawing felt very satisfying and relaxing so this got me thinking, that if I draw one pony every day, I might get better at this! So that is what this thread is for. Me drawing a pony every day. Hopefully, my "skills" will evolve. If not, I'll just give up. Like I said, I have never really been drawing at all before, so I know nothing about this whatsoever. Yesterday's major buck-ups: *Her left eye is really weird. *The hindquarters are quite messy and sort-of the wrong shape. I imagine this will be the most difficult part to get right. *I shouldn't have put a Twilight-style tail on there. It doesn't match her mane. *Don't use a damn ballpoint. *Don't use a paper with text on it. Other notes: This was a very casual doodle, so I only looked at some reference pictures whilst drawing. At first, I was only thinking of drawing the head, which is why the body goes through the text. In the end, I pretty much rushed the hindquarters when I lost my patience. Her cutie mark is a ballpoint pen. Tonight, I will actually look at a drawing tutorial, and try to draw Twilight. Hopefully, this will get interesting.
  13. I have been thinking of throwing in MLP terms irl occasionally, to see if anyone I know "gets it". It might be a good way to figure out if somebody is a brony without actually asking. If they don't get it, it would just go over their heads, and it wouldn't be weirder than any of the other stuff I say.
  14. Nah, I don't get why the show should try to lose its innocence? Isn't that where some of its appeal comes from? A lot of fan fiction has more mature themes, but to do those things in the actual show would subvert its aesthetic.
  15. So, I made my first pony song. Would love to get any comments. Now, I can't sing at all, so this has some pretty harsh auto-tuned vocals. The lyrics are on the pony.fm page. https://pony.fm/tracks/357-destiny I also uploaded an instrumental version. https://pony.fm/tracks/356-destiny-instrumental-version Please listen and, if possible, enjoy.
  16. I knew I would like the show before I even watched it, when I heard of the community surrounding it. However, I did not know that I would get into the show as heavily as I did, and I am a very new brony so my obsession is still growing daily.
  17. I would go to Equestria if I could come and go as I wish. I wouldn't want to stay there permanently without being able to at least visit the real world. And I wouldn't want to go there if I had to return to the real world permanently either.
  18. At first, my favorite was Rainbow Dash, because she is obviously the coolest. Also, the first full episode I saw was the Dashie-centric Wonderbolts Academy. Now, my favorite is Pinkie Pie. She is sort of a role model to me in terms of making others laugh and lightening up difficult situations.
  19. Twilight or AJ would probably be a good balance to my chaotic sides. Me and Pinkie Pie are too much alike in terms of craziness. It would be like pouring gasoline on a fire. I guess I find Rainbow Dash the most "attractive" but I'm not sure if that chemistry would work.
  20. This. Is. Amazing. Dreamsong's singing voice is so very touching it almost makes me teary eyed. I have to pause the track at times to catch my breath. Especially with those layered vocals. Beautiful. Also, the instrumental movements towards the end are epic to say the least. This is some cinematic stuff. Can't wait to hear your other 2 collabs!
  21. I don't think I will ever touch the older generations. I don't see anything about them that would appeal to me. They scare me a bit, to be honest. Somehow, I have this fear that if I watch any of it, I won't be able to shake it out of my mind if it is truly horrible, and think about it whenever I watch FiM. A bit exaggerated, perhaps.
  22. Heh, that's very good. I guess that is what you would call metapoetry, and I'm a sucker for anything meta. I don't really know much about poetry though.
  23. Well, the problem is that the alicorn transformation was supposed to be tied to Twilight's character development, but the s3 finale did not really pull that off in a satisfying way. If they were to reverse the transformation, would that nullify her personal development somehow? That is not entirely clear. if they were to not reverse the transformation, will that change Twilight's relationship with her friends too much? Would she have to move away from them etc.? That is not entirely clear yet, either. How much do the writers dare to change the show format in the name of character development? I think she will stay an alicorn, but also stay in Ponyville somehow and do princess duties from there. Personality-wise, she will always be Twilight.

    Hi there!

Thanks, everypony! Wow, so many replies already! This place is awesome. Well, regarding Seasons 1 & 2, I haven't seen ALL the episodes yet, but I'm catching up.

    Hi there!

So, I guess this should be my first post in the brony community. I got into MLP quite recently, midway through season 3. As soon as I heard about the show I thought it would probably be right up my alley. I have always been interested in good cartoon animation and cute & colorful aesthetics, and this show actually had REAL comedy and PROPER characters as well. I am usually not very active in online communities (because of shyness, I guess) but this seems like such a friendly place. A bit about myself: I like film, music and art. I play around with electronic music, and wish to make movies one day. I would love to be able to do animation, but unfortunately I don't think I have the drawing talent for it. That's quite enough probably. Looking forward to meeting all of you!
