  1. You're worried that this major motion picture produced by Christopher Nolan is going to be a piece of shit video game with completely broken controls?  At least compare it to another Superman *movie*, like Superman Returns...

Superman Returns is the closest I'd say they've ever gotten to making a decent Superman movie. I don't really understand why people hate it so much.

Pre-Crisis Superman *has* turned back time, though.  He regularly leaped forward and backward in time to meet the Legion of Super Heroes, and even visited Krypton that way.

Fair enough, but I meant more the way he does it. Also, pre-crisis was a very silly time.

I mean, yeah, I get what the filmmakers are going for thematically, but it just seems like a wasted opportunity. As a film-goer, I would much rather see a bunch of characters having to traverse a lawless county or city (I dunno, maybe to rescue a friend or family member) while the movie explores themes and ideas a bit less basic than "HUMANITY SUCKS".

    Give me something new.

Oh, that's my other problem with this movie: Humanity DOESN'T suck. This wouldn't happen if this actually became a law and that's been proven by society throughout history. I HATE cynical movies and this one looks about as cynical as it gets.

  2. Thought I'd start a thread to talk about the weekend box office. Here's this weekend's estimates:

    May 24-26

    1 - Fast & Furious 6 - $98,528,000

    2 - The Hangover Part III - $42,415,000

    3 - Star Trek into Darkness - $38,000,000

    4 - Epic - $34,200,000

    5 - Iron Man 3 - $19,424,000

The Hangover Part III made half as much this weekend as The Hangover Part II in its first weekend. That's pretty sad, but considering how awful both of those movies are, neither should have made that much.

It's nice to see Star Trek hanging in there. It's actually starting to catch up with the first one.

Also, Iron Man 3 this weekend, only three weeks into its run, is now the 5th highest grossing film of all time, worldwide, with a total international gross of $1,142,306,000 (est). And rightfully so because it's easily the best of the three. One could even argue the only good one... :umad:

  3. The movie I'm really looking forward to at the moment is one called "The Purge". It's basically about certain periods in the year where everyone is allowed to commit any number of crimes without fear of punishment.

    I'll just show the trailer:

I found it extremely interesting at least.

Why are they wearing masks if they can't get arrested for anything that they are doing oh god just a few more characters left?

  4. *shrug* I was never a big Superman fan. Way too OP'ed for me, and you're also talking to a Batman fangirl. xD Human-looking, absurdly powered, time-traveling, gravity-defying, memory wiping aliens don't really do it for me. ^^

But you're right. I've loved Goyer's screenwriting so far, especially in the Dark Knight trilogy, and I actually kind of liked what I saw of Davinci's Demons. So I'm pretty hyped to see what he's done with Superman. biggrin.png If anyone can get me to like Superman, he's the guy. xD

First of all, Batman has traveled through time plenty of times. :P

Superman turning back time in the first movie was a thing created specifically for that movie, and at the last minute. As I've said, I don't think there's ever been a movie that has done Superman right (or anything right for that matter).

Also I'm actually not a big fan of Goyer. Jumper's a TERRIBLE movie and I think he's the reason for all the major problems I have with Batman Begins. The Dark Knight Rises is all Nolan's fault though. That's just one of the worst freaking movies ever made.

Anyway, I'll make you like Superman: Read "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" "All-Star Superman," and "Superman for All Seasons."

  5. Somebody said I could post these here, and it does seem appropriate and relevant to discussion. I'm a film critic and I run a website, the URL of which is in my signature. Here are some audio reviews I've done recently.

  6. -Man of Steel (Here's hoping they can give personality to the Man of Cardboard, er, Steel.) xD

Superman's got plenty of personality. The problem is there has never been a good Superman movie. From the trailers it looks like Goyer REALLY gets Superman, so I'm really excited.

I usually don't have the money to go out and see movies so I may end up waiting to see these online:

As a content creator, I have to ask you: Please don't pirate movies.

  7. Full disclosure right up front: I got the idea to make this thread when I realized I'm not sure which movies to review this year on my very small budget. Let me know what'd be worth my money and what would be a waste of it.

That being said, what I REALLY want this thread to be about is in the title: What are you looking forward to?

    Here's my list:

    Man of Steel

    This Is the End

    My Little Pony: Equestria Girls

Monsters University (though admittedly more for the short before it than the movie itself)

The Smurfs 2 (like 37% ironically, the first one wasn't as bad as people assumed)

    Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Insidious Chapter 2 (seriously, if you haven't seen Insidious, see it immediately)

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (might be the one I'm most looking forward to)

    Gravity

    Thor: The Dark World

    The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

    Frozen

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

  8. I used to watch NC's stuff and got pretty comfortable with the way he left, even though I couldn't stand the new show he started. Then he came back. And brought along the people from that other show. And now his show is unwatchable to me. The sketches are pointless and his jokes just drag on through multiple episodes in a very annoying way.

I'm still a big fan of people like Linkara, Film Brain, The Cinema Snob, Phelous, Bennett the Sage, Obscurus Lupa and even Spoony despite his abrupt and embarrassing removal from the website. I used to watch a lot of others on there (Todd in the Shadows, Nostalgia Chick, etc), but their cynicism just became too much for me to deal with.

  9. Hi there, Sploich here. 25. Male. Houston-ish. I run a website called sploich.com where I review movies. Movies are pretty much all I live for these days. That and ponies. Ponies are pretty cool. If you want to be my friend that is awesome because I am desperate.

But seriously, I always enjoy becoming a member of a new forum. See you around!
