  1. I'd love to join this, but I have to leave Sunday and be gone for a week, is there anyway I can start later?
  2. I'm curious to see what various theories and ideas people have about the world of Equestria, facts not given by the creators but imagined to fit in the minds of the viewers based of information gathered from the show. For example, I believe that, due to magical health care, ponies can live for hundreds of years. Why? Because in Winter Wrap Up, Twilight claims that "For hundreds of years, [Ponyville's] never used magic to clean up winter", but in Family Appreciation Day, we learn that Granny Smith was among the founders of Ponyville. Ergo, Granny Smith must be hundreds of years old, and we can assume it was thanks to magic being able to cure most ailments and injuries. I'm also fond of the idea that the Flim Flam brothers are actually Changlings who go from town to town, trying to settle a new colony for the Hive. First off, their magic is green, like changeling magic. Second, their cutie marks are apples, but I'd say their special talents are more suited to swindling others, or even engineering (they built a car!), and they merely adopted the apple marks to convince the townsfolk of their "skill" in cider-making. Third, if they succeeded in kicking the Apple Family out and established themselves as Ponyville's chief apple-sellers, they'd begin to win the love and affection of the town, which would make it easier for the other changelings to come in and take the rest of it by force. Those are my two pet theories, but I'd love to hear what others think, so feel free to include your own ideas on Equestria's inner workings, or criticize mine. They more ideas we have, the more detailed our map becomes!
  3. I'd say Pinkie. Think about it. She knew how to stop the Parasprite infestation, she understood before anyone else that Luna wasn't dangerous on Nightmare Night, she breaks the fourth wall all the time. I believe Pinkie Pie has a secret source of ancient and powerful knowledge of the world, and only uses it when she has to. That's why she's never really scared, even in terrifying situations like when facing down a manticore or dragon, because she understands that such matters are, in a cosmic sense, trivial.
  4. Bring in the background six! Dr. Whooves, Derpy Hooves, Lyra, Bon Bon, Vinyl Scratch, and Octavia will save the day with the Elements of Counter-Harmony: Stability, Spontaneity, Passion, Control, Innovation, and Tradition, respectively.
  5. 1. Cyrano de Bergerac: released in 1950, starring Jose Ferrer, an English translation of the original play, this film has a bit of everything; rousing sword fights, passionate romance, political intrigue, fantasy, drama, lies, truth, and beautifully eloquent speeches and poetry. Like if you crossed Eroll Flynn with Shakespeare. My favorite film of all time. 2. The Room: One of the worst films ever made; written, produced, directed, and starred by one man; Tommy Wiseau, and it is TERRIBLE! Every possible thing you could expect to go wrong with this movie does go wrong, and the result is something so poorly done that it's actually rather fascinating. It's like some kind of super-patient-zero with every disease known to man; horrible to behold, yet fascinating to study. 3. The Rocky Horror Picture Show: a cult classic, an undeniably weird music that pays homage to the goofy, campy sci-fi films of the 60's. Catchy tunes, an interesting story line, and visual wonder abound, and the whole thing is crowned by Tim Curry in his legendary role as Dr. Frankenfurter, who is as engrossingly odd as he is bizarrely sexy. A film not to be missed!
  6. Oh yes, the songs are fantastic! And I like that they have their own qualities that can allow them to stand as music on their own. In a lot of kids show, like you said, the music is predictable, and is just kind of a cheap way to further the message or exposition without really adding anything too unique. The music in this show IS, again as you said, like a musical, because while it does effectively move the plot or convey the message like it should, the songs are catchy, fun, and well-done enough to be listenable to on their own. In addition to enriching the episode, they're just as fun to listen to on your MP3 by themselves. It adds a whole new layer to the show and further goes to show how much real effort and passion they put into it.
  7. Anything and everything for my bestest buddy. I owe him so much. We actually had a talk about this once; if it ever came down to a situation where one of us had to die to save the other, we'd solve it the old fashioned way; Rock-Paper-Scissors, best two out of three. Of course, I'd still throw myself into the pit of death before he got a chance to. The world needs him far more than it needs me.
  8. Feels like I'm...on top of the universe! On a shooting star! Life is so wonderful, and everything, is by far... So Spectacular!
  9. I'm not opposed to seeing Trixie again, but I agree with most others here that it sounds a lot like Magic Duel mixed with Equestria Girls. I'd like to see an episode that takes place in the future, kind of a classic "Where will they be in such-and-such years" deal, and you see that Trixie and Iron Will have either become business partners or even married, and combine their showmanship talents to become one of Equestria's finest traveling attractions, while selling self-help on the side. It wouldn't be the focus of the episode, just a nice side note.
  10. I will say that if it ever happens, I don't think it will be for a while. I don't think we understand enough about the genealogy of homosexuality to make it a natural part of our life, and that fact that most states still won't allow gay marriage (go California!) shows how timid people still are about it, even if they are okay with it in real life. While I do hope one day we can integrate it seamlessly into everyday life, I think that including it in a cartoon will be the final sign of it's completion, not a step towards it.
