The noselines would be the most significant detail. Others would be his big tooth and claws for his dragon leg. Also his left pupil (eyes) should be smaller than his right but I don't know if that's more of a texture thing. Sorry, I'm a bit of a nitpicker. Xp But yeah great job!

I think it looks really awesome!It's simplistic looking, but gets the job done!With a few more small details it would be perfect! (Maybe add the noselines for example.)

Thanks! I struggled with the colors a bit, but the combination she settled on really ended up working great.

 

And here's a new character I designed last night, for myself. I chose the name Despina, which means lady-like. Not a very ponyish name, but she's not exactly an average looking pony, either.  Not as clean as my other stuff; it's more of just a cleaned up sketch than an actual finished drawing.

Awesome furry body i say!I really like her mane and colours! ^^ Only thing which would seem a bit off is the gem on her chest.It seems to be above her fur, i don't know if she has a necklace or something under it which is able to hold the gem, but it is nice nonetheless.

 

Alright, turned this into an art thread so I'll be posting my new stuff here as well.

 

This is a design I finished yesterday for a friend and artist that I really admire. She wanted a Gothic, feminine male, with plenty of freckles, because we're both very much obsessed with freckled ponies. I showed her the design with a few different palettes and this is the one she decided on.

 

He turned out hardly Gothic at all but she seemed to really like him anyway, so that's good c:

 

 

That was the last thing on my to-do list. I'M FREE. For the first time all year, I don't owe anyone any art. Drawing for other people stresses me out because I'm afraid of not meeting their expectations, I guess, and then I end up putting it off and just taking forever. I originally intended to just spend this year focusing on personal art/developing my characters, but then in January a bunch of people ended up asking me for things and I have a hard time saying no. But now I can finally relax.

 

Indeed he looks really nice! I like his colours, it really gives the gothic feel you went for!

The one thing i can't stand is to play on a smartphone.You can't play without blocking half of the screen with your hands and the controls are horrible.Also i am more comfortable with the older designs.

I say practice makes a master of his/her craft, so that's the key.

I would say it's never been better!

As others have said above, you can reach a bigger audiance than ever before!If you do things right and expose yourself to others it is possible.

But nothing comes to you without working for it.If you are certain that this is what path you want to take in life then go for it!

It is difficult yes, with today's competitive nature, i won't lie it is, but it is not impossible, nothing is.

I for one am certain that i want to remain in the field of art, maybe i will have to take part time jobs next to it, but that doesn't really bother me.It helps me go forward.In 2-3 years i was able to raise my artistic scales to what i have today, i take several commissions for a descent payment whenever i can, so i can't be sad with what i have achieved so far.

We need art for everything, from commercials, illustrations, conceptual artwork, to many other things!

I think the statement still lives, that if someone truly chases his/her dreams it can come true.

So, i would say just grab a pen/pencil, a good ol'sketchbook and start practicing! ^^

However, I still feel like it sucks big time, so I need your opinions.

 

I need all kinds of reviews! Good or bad, harsh or gentle, 10/10 or -20/10, I need it all.

I know, it is awful...

They are not awful, but i would advise you to look into practicing basic shapes mainly spheres because that could be really helpfull on drawing ponies.(Especially because that's how their body is made up.)

Also basic shapes in 3d space, to have a sence of depth, scales and structure.The good thing in ponies is that their structure is relaively simple, it's just circles mainly, and beside the basic shapes, after you get yourself familiar with the cornerstones of their anatomy, you can start applying your own touch/style to it.

Also, you can start copying other people's artwork too, it also helps you understand how things look etc. . (But do not claim copies made for practicing porpuses as your own creations.)

I don't think she's French (I don't remember them ever mentioning an analogous pony city or country), but it is interesting to see what the Fleur de Lis represents.

 

Usually described as an iris, the yellow (or gold) Fleur-de-Lis was indeed the sign of the French monarch, but more specifically of his divine / God-given right to rule.  It was also a religious symbol, usually interpreted as a sign of Mary, Queen of Heaven, or of the Holy Trinity.  Also: faith, wisdom, and heroism.

 

The iris was considered an especially beautiful and exotic flower among European cultures.  Before them, the Ancient Greeks regarded it as a symbol of grief or mourning, usually over the death of a young girl, due to its connection with the goddess of the same name.  Among the Ancient Egyptians, the iris symbolized victory, rule, and power.

 

So what does this mean for a pony bearing two purple fleur-des-lis and one yellow?  It sounds like it might be a reference to the (at the time) three princesses.  Maybe Fleur Dis Lis's look is no accident at all, and she aims to look as much like an alicorn as possible?  Or maybe it symbolizes the power given to her by her natural beauty?  Though that does not explain why she has three, or why they're different colors . . .

 

I don't know.  Thoughts?

Dunno, about being french, we would only have her cutie mark suggest that she is somehow related to France, because the Fleur De Lis symbol/crest was used mainly in France, but if we are talking about Equestria i don't think how the french people/ponies would be portrayed as.

I think they wanted a distinct body type for her to be able to fit next to Fancy Pants at that time.I believe she first appeared in Season 1 yes?Maybe they didn't really care about it at the beggining, they just wanted her to look different from the others, as they did with many other characters later on. (Sapphire Shores, Mr. Mrs. Cake, etc,)

She is supposedly a super model so I think that that body type was selected for signify beauty, something that Faust did not want to do with Rarity as she did not want to differentiate the Mane Six in body type. She needed Spike to communicate to the audience that Rarity was attractive. In this case they could have tried to signify a regal beauty by applying Princess features to Fleur. 

 

Two notes though, not all Princesses have these features thanks to the inclusion of Twilight. I take it as meaning that Alicorn body type is not exclusive to them ... which is kinda cool and fits with the (generally( inclusive nature of Equestria. 

 

Ponies are complex creatures

I wonder then how Princess Cadence looked like as a pegasus, before being "reborn" as the princess of love, if that counts as canon of course.

Maybe Twilight won't be as tall or regal looking as, say Princess Celestia, but maybe something like Cadence or Luna.

That's an interesting headcanon, that would explain why her appearance changed in season 2.

Indeed, i think too that she was mainly recovering from the whole Nightmare Moon fiasco, and maybe learning about how the world changed in those thousand years.(Like in the Nightmare Night episode, she wanted to learn more and interact with others.)

Dumb sounding question i know. But a valid one I hope. Why is she the only pony to have a body with likeness to Celestia, Cadance and Luna? And why did Twily's body not go all tall and sleek like theirs in the alicorification process?

I think it just comes down to the fact that she is a model because of her distinct body type/beauty.(Maybe she was born to be one?Assuming how the whole pre-destination of Cutie Marks go.Like a rare bodytype of sorts? Maybe?)

I think Twilight will look different in the future yes, but not in S05.Tho i noticed her horn seems longer these days, so that's something.
