Even the fanfic writers got some nods, with the sheer amount of shipping fuel going through the roof! The writers were definitely teasing the shippers
Well, you know how it goes: First somebody creates something interesting; then a meme spreads out of it; then it's all over the internet; then it gets old and everyone is sick of it.

And then it gets mentioned in the oficial media.

I just hope someone in the cast declares it as non-canon, because some of the things in this episode completely opposed established lore. :/
    Do they ever?

It's not the first time an episode brings contradiction to the established lore.

BTW: what was it this time?

  3. I dunno, man.

I jokingly flirt with one of my best friends and I'm straight as an arrow.

I think insulting people for saying that the Lyra/Bon-Bon isn't canon is going out of line.

I would never insult people for sharing their opinnions,

    But for that:

Like I always say, shippers see what they want to see and nothing will make them unsee it no matter how logical, so prepare for an influx of pointless overdone shipfics coming from this episode.

  4. Everyone here seems to be using clear logic, it's just your biased opinion which makes you think that.

I don't know about everyone, but you both made several logical fallacies, and my alleged bias have nothing to do with it.

Well, sorta. They didn't do anything specifically romantic and they referred to each other as "friends" numerous times, but you could tell they were teasing the shippers. ;)
I'm not a really big fan of shipping in general. But the hints are there, in fact, the hints are as thick as they can ever be in that show. And to deny they are there - that's just narrow-minded,

maker (in this case being Hasbro) obviously made it clear that they are just friends but at the same time did enough to make the shippers happy.
So, they stated one thing and then hinted that the statement is faulse.

they constantly pointed out through their dialog...they are just "best friends"
    1. Do you believe that if they fust sad so, it must be true?

    2. Would you really expect from Harsbro that they just go and confirm with strait faces: "yes, we have a lesbina couple in our show"

I've given a lovey dovey face to my pet cat before and told him he's my best friend Does that mean we are a couple? No Shippers see what they want to see and no amount of logic will dissuade them
You compare two situations completely out of context. Are you sure you're competent enough to mention logic?

Lyra and Bon-Bon just confirmed they are just friends
    Yeah right!

Have you seen their faces when they talked to each other? Heared the tone of their voices, maybe?

When some "just friends" talk to each other like that - I will only say: yeah, yeah, just friends.

And it doesn't really matter whether they did it already or not.

I suppose I'm just thinking that it didn't show Starlight keeping and using her talent for just her own benefit
Her "comrades" didn't know that. All they knew was that she lied to them and she kept something what they weren't alowed to keep. And that made them "shake with rage".
  11. Actually, Equestria's already been shown to have private ownership, commerce, and barely (if at all) regulated markets. It has its upper, middle, and lower classes, and a strong agricultural economy. If anything, it's a kind of ideal capitalism.

In fact, we don't see a whole lot of government at all outside of Canterlot. Is there even a tax system?

Yet, it also has some strong socialistic (or rather eco-socialistic) elements, like communal labor: winter wrap up or tornado duty.

  12.

world system of Equestria is already far more fair than global capitalism, and lacks many of its evils while staying clear of the dark side of communism.
That's true. The qutie marc system has allowed to fulfill something we'll never have in our world: a true socialist utopia.

I would assume she has failed to measure up to other ponies at some point
But she must be wery good in magic to do what she did. Exceptionally good, I would say.
  13. I just seem to don't get Starlight Glimmer's communism march song out of my head... the last time I got that caught by a song was bats... will probably be a long night

    И вновь продолжается бой!

    И сердцу тревожно в груди!

    И Ленин такой молодой!

    И юный Октябрь впереди.

The song was written in a maybe most boring and uneventful period of sovjet history.

  14. The only thing I can think of is her cutie mark still remaining

    Yes.

And one of the few things our lesser party functionaries were alowed to do is to trawel to the western countries and bring back home some jeans or VHS. Bet, it doesn't soud like much of a luxury to you either, does it? Yet, for us it was, first and foremost, sign of unequality, hipoctrisy and corruption.

I still get the impression that Communism could be a great thing if not for people like Starlight Glimmer, but it's people like her that make it like that.
The ideology of communism is built on the doctrine of marxism: doctrine that pritches the social antagonism rather then cooperation. So how the doctrine that praises the inevitability of the civil war can be "a great thing"?

And there will always be people like Starlight Glimmer: political power always attracts corrupt people who will abuse it. So it's up to political system to define how much power they have. And ideal socoal system (like utopical communism) needs ideal people, otherwise it will allways fail. And if we have society of ideal peolpe it will become an ideal society on itself, won't it?

hat doesn't sound much different from other equality-based dystopias like Harrison Bergeron.
The difference is that the Harrison Bergeron is a fiction. USSR was real.

And I don't Starlight lived in luxury exactly
She alowed herself what others were deprived of. And our party leaders didn't live in real luxury either compared to modern day billionaries.

It wasn't really an accurate representation of a political ideology, and its one that westerners are generally opposed to at that.
Yet it was a pretty accurate representation of a reality back in the USSR.

    I've grown up in there.

Why do people keep on saying its communism?
Well, I just quote myself on this:

Well, that willage... that was prettiy much what we've had back in the late USSR. At least how we saw it those days. Constant talk about equality and comradery, constant propaganda nobody believed anymore, leadership that lived in relative luxury, pompouse and unappealing design in enything. And, last but not least, manufactured common goods sucked (selflessly and unconditionally).
