visual art Old Drawing I dug up
tlcbonaparte replied to tlcbonaparte's topic in Non-Pony Art & Creations
Found another: I drew this one after reading Dune. This is how I picture Chani looks like (Chani is Maudi`s wife). Also this was when Blizzard was hyping up Starcraft II, as you can see I drew the protoss psi blade.on her. -
My theory is Twilight is indeed being prepared for something. So is Cadence Think about it guys: 1. Reforming Discord 2. Reawakening of Crystal Empire 3. Dignitary from Saddle Arabia 4. Twilight's transformation 5. Cadence's wedding. If we link these things together, there is a bigger picture of what's to come. Cadence is the princess of Love, her wedding only serves to increase her power, Twilight's friendship also made her more powerful. Discord should be someone sealed forever, but Celestia risked letting him out. It could very well be that she needs his help for what's to come. If I have to guess, I'd say it has something to do with the everfree forest and why the old castle was abandoned.

How will Twilight Sparkle handle change?

Exactly, you were excited about what she would do. That's why I said it's actually a good thing she didn't lay out her plan in right away. This type of delivery works better for actual great evil plots but it's still useful in holding audiences in suspend before the really bad reveal. I understand you feel SS is the worst villain in the series, while I think Sombra is even worse, but I think you should give her credit where it's due. SS obviously has a lot of flaws but keeping her plans in the dark is simply not one of them.
-
Yes, after you know her plan you think it's ridiculous, but what about BEFORE you knew her plan. Since you know what's scary, it's not a huge leap between the nature of fear and the reason why SS's plan was not explained in detail. If you knew her plan all along, then the movie would be far worse partly because her evil plot sucks, but that's no reason to fault the delivery of her plot. People were genuinely worried about what SS was going to do to Twilight prior to the big reveal near the end and rightfully so. That's why you were kept in the dark for the majority of the movie, and I believe it's much better than laying it out in the open.

I spent two posts pointing you to the same example which you choose to ignore and refuse to see what I said about your "it only is scary when it's explained" logic. Now one last time, THINK about what I just posted. Now ANSWER me what do you think about the fear of unknown and the example given by me.

There are other kinds of fear than those being shown in plain sights. The fear of the unknown is one of the greatest fear of all. To quote Hamlet "But that the dread of something after death, The undiscovere'd country, from whose bourn No traveller returns, puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience does make cowards of us all," Fear stem from lack of understanding, That is why I find it amusing you consider Sunset's lack of explanation for her evil scheme a shortcoming.

IDW Has Seen the Season 4 Script and....
tlcbonaparte replied to Kyoshi Frost Wolf's topic in Season 3 Discussion
That's a superficial difference. What I meant by the example is that this is a turning point in a show's life, it's extremely delicate. I understand people want to shake things up in the face of such huge changes, Chuck is my way of telling you guys what could go wrong. I believe characters in the show are as much if not more important than the plot. While plots are ever changing, Personalities of a show's protagonists should remain the same like a pillar holding up a ever changing sky of plot. -
IDW Has Seen the Season 4 Script and....
tlcbonaparte replied to Kyoshi Frost Wolf's topic in Season 3 Discussion
Has anyone watched this show? It's a show called Chuck, and it was one of the best show I ever seen, Until season 3. The writing team for the show wanted to shake things up and made the main character a much more useful and powerful character, and to go with that they made his personality different. And it crashed and burnt. Those of you who want to shake things up, please take Chuck as a precautionary tale. Characters make or break a story or franchise. It is one of the most important parts of a show. You DON'T want to mess with that, -
IDW Has Seen the Season 4 Script and....
tlcbonaparte replied to Kyoshi Frost Wolf's topic in Season 3 Discussion
That's the thing though. We love Twilight as a character, changing her personality would be the wrong move to make. Yes she is now a princess, and that means her life is now different, but that doesn't mean she can't deal with these new problems as Twilight the smart nervous pony we all know and love. Character developments is a risky thing to do, mostly I think it should be used only to show the progress character is making to improve her short comings (as protagonist). And if they are going to show Twilight's growth, it should be about her trusting more in herself and her friends instead of relying on books all the time. Anything else would not sit right with me. -

I said at the very beginning of these posts that "to me" a good villain needs to have good motive. I never claimed it's a fact. You are the one who keep trying to give him non-existent motives so he'd fit into my personal criteria of good villain... I am perfectly fine with you liking him as a character, but please don't make him out to be more than he is. He is what he is, and what he is is good enough for you but not for me, Simply as that. Edit: Scratch that. I didn't mention it's a personal preference. Well I am telling you now, it is a personal preference. You can like him all you want, but he just doesn't fit into what I think a good villain should be.
-
Joker is insane, that's his key personality. And even then he has motives, he is a clown, his crimes are his performances. Are you saying Sombra is insane? If so, show me evidence of his insanity. You keep trying to draw something else into the argument hoping to find something that may prove you right, but you should know it by now Sombra indeed does have no motives. Just accept that, It's like you are trying to dispute every flaw this character has, he can be your favourite villain AND have flaw at the same time you know, the two are not mutually exclusive. Put him on a pedestal and pretend he is perfect just shows people how biased you are.
-
Not really. I don't see how having ponies chained = loving being ruler. At most it just means he loves to watch ponies suffer. It has no direct correlation with the motive you suggested. That laugh is also very vague. I can say he is laughing because that's what Villains do during an act of villainy. There are no evidence pointing the laugh toward he loves being ruler. These evidences while certainly can fit in your theory can easily be interpreted into something else, thus it cannot be used as solid proof. I think you are kind of forcing your argument here about his motives. You are giving him a motive because you want him to have one,

See you have no way of knowing how smart he is. I can't tell how smart Sombra is because how little of him I know besides his "resume" from the show. In fact I want to know what exactly did he do that makes you think he is very smart? The mark of a good villain is how much sense his/her action makes. Sombra's action is pretty much nonsense. Why does he torture Crystal Ponies? I don't know, Sunset Shimmer's action makes sense, she wanted power, when Celestia didn't give her the power she wanted, she left to find another way to obtain power. It's a simple premise but at least it's something.
