In the very first shot she appears in, Twilight is reading a book. 36 seconds later, she is shown to not have many friends, and be more interested in her studies.
Sound familiar? Perhaps, perhaps not. It may not be books or studying, but chances are that most of you reading this have some sort of interest, something that's usually considered 'geeky' or 'nerdy'. Chances are that many of you may not have many offline friends, whether by personal choice, or due to unforeseen circumstances.
Nevertheless, the very first scenes in the show establishes a connection between Twilight and the audience, and then goes on to strengthen the connection as the series goes on. She's constantly shown as the 'nerdy' character (or "Egghead", as Rainbow Dash is fond of calling her), as the audience surrogate.
This of course is ingenious on the creator's part, because as we all know, people love watching a protagonist that they can relate to.
Now, on to Princess Twilicorn. This caused much controversy among the fandom. Care to guess why? Yes, that's right: Suddenly, Twilight has wings, a crown, shoes, and even a curl in her hair. In other words: She's Queen Pretty Pretty Princess, and that is not a protagonist that we can relate to.
Fortunately so far, Season 4 has made Princess Twilicorn work quite well. She's still the Twilight we know and love, only different. Older, more mature, let's say.
I was definitely skeptical at first, but now I have very high hopes for Twilicorn. And who knows? She may even surprise us.
Thus concludes my first pony opinion blerg thing. I don't even really know where I plan on going with these, but hey, this was fun to write, and I definitely need to keep myself writing if I want to get rid of this block. >____<
So, yeah. What did you think? Do you agree/disagree? Have something to add? Just dropping in to say hi? Whatever it is, any and all comments would be highly appreciated!
