  1. I don't mean to open up a can of worms here but are you saying your help was from Sac Anime staff or Horse News?  I find it odd that there are only 2 witnesses to what seems to be a fabricated story about the 11 year old girl and here you are saying it is 2 people who helped you with a problem.  I do wish you had notified security but may I ask what day this happened?  I am getting an odd feeling that someone took your story and embellished big time to cause the big horrible story that Horse News published.  You just might be the 11 year old girl (who is probably not 11) that the Horse News story is talking about.

Horse News, but ha, it's nothing like that.  The incident happened between myself and someone I and two of the reporters were familiar with, from a previous meetup group who has a reputation for creeping on girls, and it really didn't get beyond warning the guy that if he tried anything else he would be kicked out of our meetup group and con security would be notified.

  2. I got so many things I loved as part of my Big Bad package.  The Nightmare Moon headdress, the con dog tag (beautifully made) and the reason I sprang for the package in the first place:  The Golden Gates plush- picture here.  Then of course I had to get another plush because Equestria Plush is too incredible - so Luna came home with me.  And I got a great tankard with Luna and Celestia from Surf City Etching, a very cute anime Twilight Sparkle plushie and I can't even remember what other items I got.

I can't go to too many cons - can't afford to after this one!

    I.  Am.  Sooo jealous. I wanted one of the pricier badges, but they were sold out.

  3. The SacAnime story is bogus on several levels, but most importantly - save for Thursday pre-reg night, when people had nothing better to do, that booth was dead.  I don't even think I would have gone there if I was being stalked.

Ironically enough, given the dislike for horse-news, two people working for them did help me during Babs with a legit stalker incident.

  4. As someone who does shop at Think Geek a lot, I can tell you you could probably get the game for cheaper somewhere else.  And if you just want the pieces, they're pretty much identical to the ones you got in blind bags, but buying the game for $20 just might be cheaper thn collecting them all.  I haven't gotten to play my copy, unfortunately, though I keep meaning to at least bring it to one meetup.

  5. well it not just some my gf dumped me for being a brony my to bros have benn pickng on me and messing with me my best frind won't talk to me all becaues I'm a brony

Your girlfriend dumped you for being a brony?  That's ridiculous.  I was actually dating a guy almost a year ago, who I had to explain the whole brony thing to, and he still didn't get it, but he at least accepted it.  It's not for everyone, unfortunately.  I'd probably be psyched if I was dating someone and found out they were a closet brony or something, but I've found dating people with little to no mutual interests is hard, and the relationship goes stale fast.  I'm sorry you had to deal with that, as I could maybe see friends being potentially put off, but if you're dating someone, you shouldn't dump them over something so frivolous.  That would be like you dumping her because she liked oranges and you loved apples.

I wouldn't be completely dissuaded and "dump" the fandom, though.  It's something you love, and other people don't have the right or privilege to make you sacrifice the things you love because they're unwilling to accept/understand it.  Perhaps as a minor solution, you could just suppress your power level with your non-brony friends and make a few that are, or at least find meetups/cons in your area, or possibly look around the anime club, if you're at school and if you have one.

And if you have had any bad experiences within the fandom, they're easy to brush off.  I've met so many wonderful people through MLP, and out of all of those, maybe two people have ever left bad tastes in my mouth, but I just move on from it.  I'd rather brush some jerk off because I know I'll met at least ten awesome people in their stead.

  6. Mhmm, there are disturbing trends in society today, people thinking Christianity is a victim in a war while it remains dominant and one of the biggest lobbies in government, people thinking racism is over and that racist jokes are acceptable, people thinking feminism is threatening to men while woman have been wronged all through history, first being treated as property like cattle, then being pidgeon holed as weak and only good for housework and raising children, finally being allowed to vote in America in 1920, finally being allowed in the workplace but still only making 60 cents to the man's dollar. It's these things that really grind my gears.

There's also homophobia, transphobia and the fact that people still don't believe men can be victims of sexual assault/harassment, especially if it's by a woman, and it can be just as damaging as a woman being raped.  I have at least one friend who was raped when he was younger, and I knew him for almost five years before I found out.  The unfortunate thing in a man's case, I've noticed, is that if they weren't victimized by a woman, they're concerned with being seen as gay, if it's by a woman, any claim they might make is usually laughed out because men are supposedly incapable of saying no to sex.  In that regard, I really do feel bad for male society, as it is the opposite of the "weak" role given to women:  Men are expected to be "strong".  It is also why society still looks down as a whole on boys and men taking on traditionally "feminine" hobbies and activities, which is no doubt why a lot of guys get flack for liking My Little Pony.  But one of the great things about the brony subculture is that we, as a whole, have an outlet and a small group of people who can emphasize and accept it - which is why it's never a bad idea to try meetups or cons at least once.

Tavishscratch also brings up a few good points, and - as unpopular as an opinion it might be - a peeve of mine regarding the hypothetical scenario of a woman consenting to sex at the time and regretting it later, as it trivializes rape and sexual assault.  Nobody "deserves" to be raped, however, everyone should excercise caution and take preventive measures to prevent the situation from happening.

  7. I agree with the bullying thing as well. A perfect case is the boy who wasn't allowed to wear his MLP backpack anymore because it was a "trigger for bullying." Maybe they should prevent bullying not by penalizing potential victims, but being proactive, observing students, find who is bullying, and bring them to justice.

And it's infectious.  There's already a young boy who is actually afraid of wearing a Rainbow Dash hoodie to school because he knows it's "not acceptable".  It's ridiculous that innocent people are being punished while antisocial behavior is catered to, if not ignored entirely.

  8. I'll admit, there's been a few times when I've been in uncomfortable situations because I was pretty sure people would say it was my fault for acting in a certain manner, or say, being dumb enough to give a creep and a stalker a second chance.

ETA:  Can I also bring up that I've seen victim blaming not only in rape/sexual assault, but in bullying, too?  It's usually not as prevalent as the former, but it is there.

  9. Well he won't even be going to prom since he got arrested.

But to be serious, here, I hate to say it, but when I get sneaking suspicions someone might do this in the wake of outright depression (or something else crazy and irrational), I'll do my best to let them off gently into the friendzone.  It does explode in my face more often than not, since redirecting someone as opposed to telling them to go away completely makes them think I can continue.

Rejection is a part of life, accepting it is an unfortunate, but necessary, aspect in life.

  10. Were you with another girl?  I think I remember you?

I was invited to participate in the contest, but I am no where close to competition level, even fun ones.

The singing bit was adorable.  I think I have part of the Pinkies singing 'Smile, Smile, Smile' recorded, albeit badly.

  11. http://www.reddit.com/r/tumblrinaction This subreddit is a good source for finding the crazies.

I get where some of them are coming from, but they go about it in such a silly way. Essentially TSJWs at the minute:

    • I hate white people
    • I hate straight people
    • I hate cis people
    • I hate men

Please tell me if I'm missing any, but that's the basic gist.

Yeah, crazies will be crazies, but it's amusing to watch on /r/TiA.

Don't forget to hate any woman who has sex with a man and doesn't see it as rape!

  12. I think that the overall message of the show does attract a lot of people who feel sad and lonely, and they flock to the fandom because there are kindred souls and little judgement.

To further my first point, just a bit, we can empathize with the Mane 6 because they are imperfect, but can, or at least try to, rectify or accept their imperfections with the help of their friends, and as morose as it may sound, a lot of people wish that they had that ability.  But that might be why people befriend other bronies in the first place.

  13. I saw him being escorted out of the con/hotel while waiting for a panel.  It's good to see that his tantrum mode has yet to subside.

A lot of the stuff I've heard about him might as well be taken with a grain of salt, but in short, he has an unwarranted sense of self-importance, and what made this whole incident humorous for me is that one of the many things he is reputable for is bullying other MLP-sites that feature news/streaming/etc. by claiming EFN has exclusive rights to steam and interview everyone and everything.  I believe he's even gone so far as to claim that he is the middle man between the actual show and everyone else.  I've also heard a few personal stories that all around paint him as sort of a jerk.

As I said, though, it's best to take a lot of it with a grain of salt, as far as how Final Draft is as a person.

  14. The very short story about the Final Draft incident is that he was kicked out for trying to go over the heads of con staff to get an interview, which is funny to me, considering some of the things he is horseimfamous for.

  15. Were you wearing a full costume? If so, I think I saw you. I was the person with the little red backpack.

Were you wearing the randoseru/Japanese elementary school backpack?  I wanted to ask you where you got it because I was jeli.  I did see OldMrAbernathy, though.  And I really do share his annoyances at not finding any pictures that were taken, since this was the first con I put some effort into a cosplay, and I kind of wanted to pick myself apart before Everfree Northwest (if I go).  On Saturday I was the (pony.mov) Rarity with dollar signs on my cheek, though I really think I messed up on those (hooray for doing them with a mirror).

But as far as my general con experiences go, I've got to say, as someone who used to go to a lot of Anime Cons a few years back, my first brony con was the best con experiences I've had, it also reminded me of why I began to venture out and meet other bronies.  This fandom has to be one of the friendliest group of people, even to complete strangers, and while I was legitimately afraid of going to anime cons by myself, I felt legitimately safe.  There is a very small but here, however, it is/was an incident with a person from my local meetup group who also attended the con, so it's not worth mentioning.

As I said before, this was one of the first cons I've ever tried cosplaying at, even though I had a few hiccups - the costume I was supposed to wear on Friday (and/or Sunday) was scheduled to arrive on the day I left for the airport, and then it never did.  I forgot half of the makeup and hairspray I was going to use for my Rarity cosplay, as well as a large poster I had made as a prop for it, and one of the components I had for the outfit itself came in a different color-scheme then the website said (it claimed to be all white, ended up being white with black trim - which I was kind of wary of because I was wearing a white dress over it).

I won't bother bringing up those few nuggets of drama specifically, but I will say everyone I saw in the vendors hall and artists' alley were appropriate (BTW - if the person in the artist alley selling pet rocks is on this forum, you are my favorite), and I had to stop myself from spending so much money, and the con goers behaved themselves accordingly when they weren't outside the hotel/at parties (I mean that in a good way, in that people knew when and where to act appropriate).  Also, let me just say I was pretty surprised by all the parents, but thought it was very cool that they were bringing their kids to see everything (my heart melted a little at two kids in particular - one who got shy when their dad pointed out a Rainbow Dash getup I was wearing, and another whose father had them take a picture with me as Rarity).

Also, we had tattoos/piercings in the vendors' hall, which was the coolest thing ever, and made me feel a lot less awkward about going into a tattoo parlor to get a MLP tattoo.

And because of Babscon, I'm pretty much groveling at my boss' feet in the hopes she'll give me Independance Day weekend off for Everfree.

  16. I likely did get stomach flu, but mistook it for a constant hangover until I was on my way home.

I don't think it was food poisoning, since I did not eat anything on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, (with the exception of an olive in a hotel martini on Friday) and Saturday afternoon is when I started feeling not as great.  But save for a stomach that rued the day I ever did anything, ever, I didn't really have a fever or anything, and I didn't really start feeling anything until I started eating real food.
