animation Why is it that most animes make female either dumb or like degenerate them
Lagrangian replied to Sofen's topic in Media Discussion
As noted, it depends a lot on what you're reading, though even shojo can treat their characters badly. Seinen and shounen are extremely popular, shounen trounament fight series in particular. They have male characters to begin with, add on top fanservice and a lot of the girls/women end up completely marginalized as characters. Some do it better than others of course. One Piece comes to mind. It still throws fan service in, but tends to make it up by still giving all of its main female characters their own story arcs and complete personalities. Japan is also entrenched in is traditions. Just think of how many manga you've read that feature a school setting. Though this may be in part linked to attempts in order to stay relevant in what is becoming an increasingly difficult business to become successful in. -
I shave it down to either 1/4 or 1/8 of an inch so it's a mute point.

That's all true, but it only applies to valid DMCA notices. Much of the problems with YouTube as it exists are the blatantly incorrect DMCA notices that are being leveled against channels. YouTube doesn't need to take on DMCA for us, but they should strive to make a system that deals with DMCA notices in a way that isn't so prone to abuse. Right now there is no motivation for people or companies to stop making DMCA take down notices willy-nilly since they can make them as they please and take revenue off of other people's videos without any repercussions and the creator's ability to respond to them is extremely limited. None of that has anything to do with the DMCA law, it's just how YouTube decided to implement the system. It's particularly frustrating for a content creator when the entire process has been automated and so there's no way to contact a real person about their problems unless they're a a partner channel.

movies/tv What are your thoughts on the upcoming Teen Titans movie?
Lagrangian replied to Vulcan's topic in Media Discussion
I don't like Robin's voice, at all. Still, usually the worst I can say about DC animated is that they're mediocre. So I may see it at some point on Netflix. -
Good on TB. He doesn't need more stress in his life right now, even though his latest treatment results have been positive.

What is Tumblr Universe?

I like Legion so far. Gnome hunters I'm pretty meh on.
-
Been doing a little better. Could still improve though.

The problems I've seen discussed so far are a lack of meaningful choices, no real reason or path to being evil, a great deal of tedium involved in crafting, somewhat lackluster story, and superfluous traits and home benefits. To be fair, Bethesda games can arguably all be called tedious in a sense, but when we've got games like Witcher 3 now, you kind of want a little more out of them. Then again, it's worth remembering that a large majority of people buy Bethesda games buy them just so they can be modded later.

So far the reviews I've seen are mixed at best.

technology Better to leave a computer on all the time or turn it off?
Lagrangian replied to Codelyy's topic in Media Discussion
Putting it to sleep will suspend anything it's doing because the processor stops functioning. ETA: If you do this you'll need to make sure your power options are set so that the computer doesn't automatically turn off. -
I got A'lar a few months ago, but this is much nicer. Though I don't think mount design gets really good until Cata, Invincible is pretty awesome.

Missed a lot from the event, but that's fine. I'll get it next year.

I've tried to do this for years. Let's see if I can at least hit 5K this month.

You don't WASD in D3, it's point-and-click. -

Good example: Diablo 3 for console is actually tweaked so that the game is easier than Diablo 3 for PC because it's practically impossible to get the precise movement needed for higher difficulties out of the sticks, which is why no controller option exists on the PC for D3. There's also a far greater degree of options and customization through K&M--there's just more buttons. -
mega thread What game are you playing right now?
Lagrangian replied to Mint Petal's topic in Media Discussion
I have the beta, but I'm not interested. As far as I can tell it's TF2 as made by Blizzard, which just doesn't pull me at all. -

Getting back into The Secret World and Guild Wars 2. -
I freaked for a second before I realized everyone else had it too.

I love Twilight Princess. I just need to convince myself to buy a WiiU.
-
Not sure if I'll buy it right away--I still haven't finished up with Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

You would think, but that functionality currently doesn't exist and there's no word as far as I could find as to when it would--I ended up just turning in my controller for store credit and bought a Steam gift card. -

The DeathAdder is overkill for a mouse unless you want to try out side-buttons. I'd probably opt for something higher than 550W for a PSU, they degrade over time and you want to have a PSU with a comfortable margin between your required power and the PSUs maximum output. 1TB is probably fine unless you plan to install a lot of games at once. Shelling out for 16 GB of memory might be worthwhile--you'll almost never hit your RAM limits that way and it'll be a while until that entire amount is going to be consumed. i5 is OK, although I think a low-tier i7 might be a better option if you're looking to avoid upgrading it. If you're comfortable with it, you could also buy Windows 7 or 8 instead and then simply update for free to Windows 10. Do you own an Xbox One or know someone who does? Have to be careful--the drivers in Windows 10 expect up-to-date firmware from the controller, which requires an Xbox One to update. If it's not, then the controller is an inert piece of plastic for the PC. I assume by Xbox for Windows you mean that you'll be streaming it to the PC? Make sure your network can handle that strain. -

The two kind of go hand in hand. Whether you prioritize one or the other has more to do with what you select in game settings, not the hardware.
