  1. Western society is probably the most ironic civilization there is in the Known Universe And Possibly Other Unknown Galaxies We Haven't Discovered Yet, where people are proud to say "Be Yourself!" and then say "Oh, don't be like that" or something like that. That's what I'm here to talk about. While girls are allowed to be either a "tomboy" or "girly girl" or whatever the hell they want to be, boys are taught at a young age "Don't do that, that's for girls!". In both gay or straight societies, feminine boys are shunned or even outright despised. It also annoys me when a boy acts feminine in fiction, there's stuff like "Is X gay?" all over the Internet. And then there are shippers who use the excuse "X should be with Y instead of Z, because X needs a manly man!" to get their ships sailing.

In the Hetalia fandom, some people hate AusHun because Austria is "effeminate" and Hungary needs a manly man like Prussia, and people agree. I'll tell ya this: If I walked into the Pokemon Adventures/PokeSpe fandom and said "Sapphire shouldn't be with Ruby, she needs a manly man like Gold" I would be laughed out of the community in ten seconds flat.

    Ruby is still fabulous :D

  2. ...Nobody's mentioned Frollo yet? He uses something that's SUPPOSED to be about love and kindness as a reason to murder people, has NO IDEA that he's evil, and he tells Esmeralda that if she doesn't sleep with him, she'll be sentenced to death!

...Oh, and did I mention that Disney made this?

  3. Suddenly, life becomes a fantasy scenario.

What role do you play? What party do you work with?

and if you want to get REALLY nerdy about things, what's your alignment?

I would be the party healer, and my party would be my friends. I'd be a weak cleric meant pretty much just to keep my friends alive... until the crap hits the fan and I'm forced to defend my friends by going "Old Testament"  and unleashing divine wrath on the sorry jerk that attacked us! But only as a last resort of course...

As for alignment, I'd most likely be Lawful Neutral.

    How about you guys?

Are you the glass cannon? The tanky meat-shield? The spell-caster?

Is your party your family? Your friends? Your co-workers? Anyone who will pay you?

Where would you fit in if life suddenly started to follow the rules of RPGs?

A Neutral Good bard or cleric. The load of the party, probably :P

  4. “Heavy is the head that holds the pen of creation. We construct these characters from nothing, molding them from our imaginations. We give them hopes and dreams and unique personalities until they feel so real you’re mind believes it must be so. We watch them grow by our hands, not always knowing the paths they will choose with the obstacles we throw at them. They take on a life of their own and often surprise even us by their actions we couldn’t have imagined before it poured out of us onto the paper. We could change it if we really wanted to, but it would be forced and not be true to the characters. And when something tragic happens and one is lost, we feel that loss even though we know they were not a friend, a family member or even ourselves. It can be a hard thing to voice sometimes, to give tribute to the one’s left behind with the real sadness over something not so real. But we find the words and press on to the next challenge, because that's what good writers do.”

Have your original characters ever taught you something as you were writing them?

  5. I really like gourmand scents, really anything that brings sugar or baked goods to mind ;) Cake/cupcake smells I love with a passion. I remember having these two bath sets; both of them that I got at Christmastime. The first set was comprised of 4 dessert-themed body washes: Pink frosting, coconut cream, cherry, and lavender chamomile. The second had body washes/lotions that smelled like gingerbread and candy canes. I will also go for ANYTHING cotton candy scented (Pink Sugar, for example).

Other than that, I like the scent of Dawn laundry detergent (reminds me of teddy bears :3 ), burnt sugar (my dad loves to make créme brûlée), and crayons/Sharpies/pencils/paper (Don't ask...)

  6. My perfectionism. It's been ruining my life for a long, LONG time. I'm an artist and a writer, and I feel that I judge myself too harshly. Whenever I post something online, such as artwork, a story, or even this post, I have to look over it hundreds of times and keep asking myself if it's good enough. I think it's because of FiMFiction.net; it's full of people trying to disguise flaming as "constructive criticism" when it's actually "YOUR STORY IS BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD" (Somebody actually posted that comment on my fanfic and claimed it was criticism). I was 8 or 9 at the time I wrote a horrible story; Maple Sword and the Seventh Element. Ugh, just the NAME makes me want to jump off a cliff. I quit writing until I gained confidence again, but I still have issues with showing off my work on the Internet. There's even a group on FiMFiction called the "Train Wreck Explorers", who's main job is to say "Your story sucks, go to hell" and leave it at that. Knighty banned them once, but they came back and they're STILL flaming people without an excuse -_- Because of this, I'm trying to shut up my inner critic until he's necessary for me to improve my work and not telling me to quit writing. I'm working on a MLP crossover/parody fanfic and I'm planning on posting it on FiMFiction. I just hope the TWE don't poke their noses where they don't belong this time...

Sorry for the long post. Have a winky face ;)

  7. Heyo everyone, so I just passed 100 subscribers on YouTube, I'm now on 120 (channel in the signature) and I want to start making more original songs about the show.

This means I need topics to start them off, and that's the hardest part to me. So if you guys have any ideas you'd like to see turned into songs, if it looks cool to me I'll go ahead and take it on.

That's pretty much all I wanted to say, thank you very much for reading!

Though I've never tried composing music, I am good at lyrics and themes...

-Songs about Luna's emotional complex before/during/after banishment (Look up The Moon Rises. Now.)

    -MOAR APPLEJACK SONGS!!

-My Little Pony chiptunes/boss themes are cool (Mandopony's chiptunes are good examples :3 )

-Songs that focus on a particular character

-A song about Rainbow's anger towards her friends after the Mare Do Well incident

-A theme song for Discord that is less crappy dubstep and more Disney villain-y

-A song centred around a fanfic

    Good luck! :3

  9. Not sure. Everybody with Aspergers is not the same. For example, a common assumption about Aspies is that they're oblivious to social cues and/or embarrassment. Being one myself, it's the complete opposite; I tend to dwell too much on embarrassing things that I did years ago. Because of this, i developed a fear of being socially humiliated. If you've met one person with Aspergers, then you've met one person with Aspergers. Just my two bits on the matter :)

As a person with Asperger's Syndrome, I'm not sure what bothers me more - the trend for diagnosing fictional characters on the flimsiest of reasons, or people acting like the condition is a "mental disorder/problem" or some sort of insult to the character. Yes, it's not easy to live with and it can/does cause many problems for me and others, but it's not a "problem" that can be "fixed" in some way - some people's brains work differently, and we have to learn to live with however that affects us, but many people with AS live perfectly happy, "normal" lives (whatever that means) and it's hugely insulting to say there's something "wrong" with them.

I think my main issue with characters getting diagnosed with AS (or other RL conditions, including those that legitimately are mental disorders, but I'm focusing on the one discussed here I actually have experience of) is that it always tends to focus on a very narrow, stereotypical set of traits - that are often, in the source material, portrayed as comic relief or a joke - that people associate with AS. Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory* is a good example - he's basically, as far as I can tell, just an insensitive asshole. When fans try to explain his behaviour by saying he's "obviously" got AS because he fits some very stereotypical criteria about what people with AS act like...it does make me uncomfortable, because it only reinforces the stereotypes (that are mostly negative and/or played for laughs), and can give the impression that people use it as an excuse for general dickish behaviour (this seems to happen online a lot). It isn't and shouldn't be an excuse for bad behaviour, and the problem is that then it gets made into an insult - I was on a chat the other day where "sperg" was being casually tossed around as an insult, and I didn't say anything but it made me feel horrible - and a bad thing, because of this false idea of what ALL people with AS are like, that people need to "defend" their favourite character from. For people like me who have to live with this thing that we know makes us different, that's not a nice thing to hear at all. It's not an insult, but nor is it something that can be reduced to a checklist of criteria to say "this shows us that character x OBVIOUSLY has AS, there is no other explanation for their behaviour". It's a complex, and sensitive for many people (myself included, lol can you tell), issue and framing it in such black-and-white terms does a huge disservice to all the RL people out there who are living with AS (either themselves or family, friends etc).

I don't personally see Maud (or Twilight or Fluttershy) as having AS - I also don't think she really seems "antisocial", just, as she said, expresses herself differently - maybe a bit more introverted, sure, but that's not at all the same. Also, "antisocial" is definitely not synonymous with AS or autism, and neither is being obsessed with rocks or whatever. I don't really apply RL psychology to ponies, for many reasons it just doesn't seem appropriate or appeal to me. She's just Maud, like Pinkie is just Pinkie and Fluttershy is just Fluttershy (and I love all of them, if that wasn't clear, and think they're awesome, well-written, relatable characters). But if people enjoy reading or headcanoning her character that way - as long as they're not insisting that it's canon and the ONLY true interpretation, or that that is what all autistic people act like - then that's cool, I'm not going to ruin their fun just because I happen to disagree. Maud is fictional and she can't get hurt by people misunderstanding her - but RL people can, and I can't blame people with AS for wanting to see characters like themselves as more than a one-note joke or stereotype, after all.

...phew, sorry, I think that rant had been building for a long time. :please: but yeah, hopefully it somewhat made sense and didn't offend anyone. Coco out~

*admittedly I haven't seen much of TBBT so someone feel free to correct me if I'm completely wrong, but it's an example I see used a lot re characters who could have AS.

I agree with you 100% about fictional portrayal of Aspies. In 4th Grade, our teacher read us The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime. The protagonist was the most ableist, stereotyped, and flat representation of Aspergers I have EVER SEEN -_- It offended me to no end. The author even admitted he hadn't researched it at all, but he excused himself because he said the book "wasn't about Aspergers".

And like you said, Sheldon isn't confirmed to be an Aspie, but fans keep insisting he is -_-

  10. Not just to God. He's loyal to just about every human being alive, and that's what makes him such a great person even to an atheist like myself. I'm not kidding when I say I might admire him most out of all humans alive right now.

That's absolutely true. Like you said, he would probably embody the Element of Magic, because it represents empathy, forgiveness, and everything that he showed in difficult times :)

    • Brohoof 1
  11. I don't know exactly which Element he'd fulfill best, but this thread isn't complete without mentioning Pope Francis. I'm not even a Christian and I think this man is the best thing to happen to Catholicism in a long time. Since he's the leader of a religion I'm saying Magic would be the most suited, but really, any of the others could qualify.

Oh yes ^^ I think Loyalty would be good for him, considering how loyal he is to God :)

  12. Not sure where to put this, but... Here's a little exercise for your cooking muse ;)

Create a recipe for an Equestrian dish. It can be anything. Literally anything. Ingredients from the show (zap apples, crystal berries, etc.) are highly encouraged!  :)

  13. Welcome Welcome Welcome!!! A fine Welcome to you!!!!  :pinkie:

I'm new here to and i'm a big fan of Pony Fan Fics!!! do you have and links to your stories???

I haven't posted them yet... ^^' I'll get to it and send you a link, Kay? ;)

  14. My Favourite Mane 6 Pony

    pinkie-pie

How did you find MLP Forums?

How you became a fan of My Little Pony

My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Pinkie Pie

How did you find MLP Forums?: I look up ponies on the Internet a lot, and I mean a LOT. I came across this site when I was torturing my keyboard. I don't usually sign up for pony sites, but MLP forums looked like a great spot for a pony writer/role player like moi ;)

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Like I said before, the glorious Internet is what brought me to the fandom. In late 2011, my brother was looking up random YouTube videos and found a video of This Day Aria. Every fandom I join usually starts with me looking up the wiki and learning a bit about the show. I saw an episode, and the rest is history /)

I'm a female pony writer/role player from Canada who is fuelled by anime, ponies, and cotton candy frappuccinos. I joined the herd in late 2011 and love the fandom! (Except for the trolls. Screw you, trolls.)

My favourite ponies are Luna and Pinkie Pie. Aside from FiM, I also like PokeSpe, Ouran, and Hetalia.
