  1. This is a picture I did quite a while ago for a project in order to get a feel for the character design and personality and change things accordingly. The ponies name is Ink Heart.
I based this picture on a very rough sketch I was given back then.

  2. I wish My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic dealt with very dark and mature themes like death and other problems that go on in people's lives. There's a lot of kid shows that dealt with very dark and mature themes like "Courage the Cowardly dog" for an example; the show dealt with domestic violence in the episode "The Mask". So if Courage the Cowardly Dog and other kid shows can deal with very dark and mature themes like that, then why can't My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic deal with very dark and mature themes like that?

I also wish My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic had way more darker villains that did much more more darker evil things (like murder) than the ones that the series had. I do like most of the villains in the series, but I wish there was a villain in the series that actually murder someone or do something very evil that can't be undone. Most of the evil stuff that the villains did in the series did were undone by the heroes.

And I also wish My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic had very complicated storylines in the series that are as complicated as the storylines from the "Kingdom Hearts" video games series. The storylines in the Kingdom Hearts series are very complicated, and that video game series is for kids; so why can't My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic have a very complicated storyline in it?

Well, you can't really compare a 20-minute TV-Show in its usual episodic format to a full blown videogame with a very complex storyline. Some modern TV-shows can manage this sort of thing because the episodes are twice as long (or more) and they are mostly intended to be watched online in bulks.

Shows for kids are even more restricted and MLP did a overarching plot going on in the background for each season. They simply have to work within their limits. You have to keep in mind that there are many TV-stations who only buy the show because of the 20-minute format and often they don't buy the broadcast rights for all seasons. Then the episodes are often aired in another episode-order than the original one. Even double-episodes are problematic and mostly only occur at the beginning or the end of a season.

    Regarding mature themes:

    - Hasbro wants to sell colorful toys to little kids.

    - The tone of the show is bright and positive, arching from the soundtrack, the artstyle, the voice-acting, the themes, etc.

Take your example regarding "Courage the cowardly dog". The artstyle and tone is a lot darker and more gritty, darker themes are hinted at throughout the entire series and the target audience is a different one.

    - if the show would aim to change towards much more darker and mature themes, everything would have to develop in that direction. Character design, background art, sound design, voice acting, the color palette used, etc.. In other words. MLP FiM would change so much that it wouldn't be MLP FiM anymore.

    TLDR

A 20-minute bright and happy cartoon aimed at kids with the intention to promote toys for young boys and girls (mostly girls) simply has its limitations and boundaries. If they are overstepped too much, it's not that cartoon anymore.

Sorry.. you're mostly asking for an apple to taste more like a blueberry. If it does... it has become a blueberry and ceased to be an apple.

  3. It may sound a little odd but I get a lot of pleasure out of intially destroying older books. Now hear me out... lay down the pitchforks.. ...I actually get these books from libraries who would just throw them out (because they have newer ones and lack capacity or if the books are doubles) and make little book-compartments out of them with my students. They love making their own secret safe out of the books.

Regarding the reading-aspect.. I only read real books, eBooks are just not for me.

  4. I only have a phone available at the moment, so please understand that my reply is pretty short.

    1. Try to push your boundaries, even if it seems uncomfortable. A failed attempt is better than no attempt and especially with creating art, you often have to try and try and try.

    2. Comparing yourself to other artists is generally a good thing if handled correctly. Try to focus on a part of their work you admire, small aspects, and ask yourself whether you could take inspiration from that or create something similar.

    3. The number of Upvotes, favourites, reblogs or whatever do not necessarily represent quality and shouldn't be a main goal.

  5. They would find a non combat position for me. I would file as a conscientious objector and I'd work on a farm, fix roads or something. Im not afraid of dying in the slightest, but I wont turn against all my principles and take the lives of others away because a bunch of politicians say I have to.

    This.

I would gladly help any civilian cause but I would refuse going to war. Most likely scenario... I would leave the country if that option was open.

  6. This one took quite a while to draw them but the picture was successfully auctioned for charity at Galacon 2016. So... mission accomplished :). I think I'll continue using marble paper for my traditional works. It really fits my style.

The picture is actually drawn as two separates picture next to eachother (you can still see the line a little bit).

  7. Dude... these are incredible! I very much like your art style, it has a very fantasy feel too it. Nice work man

    Thank you kindly :)

My style is often not as quirky or explosive and mostly not very spontaneous. I tend to construct many of my pictures, make sure the perspective is right and work in a lot of Details. The upside is that my pictures can really be explored for little hints, secrets and fun details, the downside is that they can seem a little 'stiff'. I am working on that though.

  8. MLP is part of a rather new trend in animated shows. Its toys may be marketed towards a very young audience but the show itself is designed for a far greater audience. Good entertainment does not necessarily need a very narrow target audience.

The basic thought was to create a show for kids (not pre-school) and their parents as well. The culture changes as well. People today are more likely to watch a whole show if they like it rather than an occasional episode on the TV randomly when it’s on.

You can see this change very good if you look at a show like the Powerpuff Girls. The Powerpuff Girls is in many ways similar to MLP (marketed at both children and adults) but never had big arcs over the course of a whole season. Shows like MLP or Gravity Falls can do this because the behavior of its viewers changed in that direction.

  9. I don't post often and usually only read the posts made. Simply because I mostly don't have anything meaningful to contribute. I'll never be known here but I'm not here to make my voice heard in the first place. I enjoy browsing and occasionally contributing. The only place I post constantly is my art-thread and between two or three pictures, I'll get a reaction. So yeah, my posts don't matter at all but it would be wrong to get sad and/or upset about it.
