  1. Amy Keating Rogers beautiful coda! AJ can have a great episode that dose'nt revolve around her family. I've worked in the live production industry for over twenty-five years (lighting designer, if anyone cares), so I found this episode to be particularly relatable. Twilight can record and playback video! That's some damn interesting magic right there! When AJ was trying to expose the manager as the asshole he was, she was totally using her element! Ra-Rah, didn't know honesty is AJs thing, and questions her motivation as jealousy, and AJ says trust me, I'll prove I'm telling the truth, reminded me of when Twilight was hanging off the cliff, and AJ was holding her, and she tells Twi to let go, and Twilight was like hell no, and AJ says honest, I promise, if you let go you will be OK. That was the moment when Twi realized AJs element. Also Pinkie was so on point too. Not too over the top silly, but still fun. Amy's writing will be missed!
  2. I've always felt that complaining without offering a better solution amounts to just plain bitching. In my last post I was bitching, but now I think I have a better solution. If you read my last post I was complaining that AJ should have been the one to go with Twilight. An Earth pony solving Earth pony problems, just works better. Also AJ is good at both building things AND growing food. Plus she's "country folk" too. Both clans would probably have listened to AJ, instead of an alicorn, and a pegasus pony meddling in earth pony business. And since AJ can't fly, the hot air balloon would have made more sense. Also AJ wouldn't have bitched about a book in her bag weighing too much. So Apple Jack would have made more sense than fluttershy, but she already got her "map episode" adventure with Rarity, in "Made in Manehatten". While that was a good episode, I always like episodes with AJ and Rarity paired up. AJ was out of place in Manehatten, which could have served the plot, but it really didn't. So, what if fluttershy had gone with Rarity in "Made in Manehatten"? Rarity and fluttershy make a nice paring, as we have seen in other episodes. fluttershy could have used the lesson that she learned in "Hurricane Fluttershy", that no matter how small of a part you contribute, it makes a difference, which was the lesson of "Made in Manehatten" anyway. If she taught the Manehattenites that lesson, it would have given her character development. There could have even been a bit about her stage fright in there. While "Made in Manehatten" was a good episode as it was, it could have been even better with fluttershy. Which would have left "Hoofeilds and Mc Colts" open for Apple Jack. As it is, (in my opinion) "Hoofeilds and Mc Colts" sucks. But it could have been pretty good with AJ, instead of... what we got.
  3. Perhaps one day she will open a chain of chicken wing restaurants called... wait for it... "ScOOters"
  4. It seems like AJ should have been there, you know being an earth pony, that both grows food and builds stuff. But I guess due to process of elimination, it was inevitable that it would be Twi and shy. Also, why do two ponies that can fly need to take a hot air balloon anyway? Once again, fluttershy acts like she's too weak to carry a bag with a book in it, bitch please! We've seen you whip a bears ass, anything to keep from helping your friends and be as useless as possible I guess. This would have been a better episode if fluttershy was "too scared" (her go to excuse for not wanting to help her friends or participate) and didn't want to go, and then we see how the cutie map deals with ponies that don't answer the call. Best thing about this was that we learned that Snips last name is probably Mc Colt.
  5. The thing with season five is that the show hit two milestones that would have felt weird if the episodes weren't special. The show had it one hundredth episode with "Slice of Life" so, it was celebrated with an "epic" (in a different way) episode. Then, on the fifth anniversary, they gave us "Crusaders of the Lost Mark", which was epic, in that the CMC finally got their cutie marks. "Do Princesses Dream of Magical Sheep" was the mid-season "something big" (Princess Luna MAJOR character development) you mentioned. Cadence announcing her pregnancy wasn't really that big of a deal. While season five has, in my opinion, had more above average episodes than average ones, I don't think that "they are trying too hard". In fact, I think they are trying just about the ideal amount.
  6. Maybe it's the voice, but I just get this real Q and Picard vibe between Twi and Discord. Trollish, but helpful. Also, remember, in "Twilights Kingdom" he marked and highlighted the entries in the journal, that lead them to discovering the keys. That was pretty damn helpful! On the other hoof, he stole the journal to do that. Trollish!
  7. It was on tonight! Don't know if you get FLIX channel, but it was on there. I made a rather lengthy post earlier, about how Discord was sharing the lesson he had learned about jealousy in "Make New Friends but Keep Discord" with Twilight. Just in his trollish, Discord, way.
  8. The outfit in that was a scene from the Bill Murray movie "What About Bob?" (Which the title of this episode was a play on) in the movie "Bob" has his pet fish in a jar he wears around his neck, Discord is wearing a jar with "Smooze". If you have a chance, try to watch that movie, it's pretty relevant to this episode, unless you need to reorganize your library, and want to feel left out on the "in" joke. LOL¡ You should have been here yesterday, when we were all talking about that! If you go back a few pages, we can try to re-create it for you.
  9. Remember in "Make New Friends but Keep Discord" that Discord learned a lesson about jealousy, and friendship. I think he was sharing what he had learned, which is an important lesson in friendship, in his own ,twisted, Discord kind of way. Think Q teaching Picard a lesson about humanity. Ever since "Keep Calm and Flutter On", when he discovered that friendship was important to him, it seems every episode he has been in he has been seeking Twilights approval. Think about "Three's a Crowd" he was testing her kindnesses. In "Twilights Kingdom" he tested her loyalty (and honesty?). In "Make New Friends..." It was her generosity he was testing. And in this episode, it was laughter he was testing. Inside jokes and all. Also, on a second watch, another Big Lebowski reference! Zecora says that the cauldron "ties the room together". More inside jokes. Oh yeah, since nopony has mentioned it yet, Owlalicious was back for another rare cameo. Not that anyone cares.
  10. We appear to be the only two people in the forum that have seen this movie and caught the reference.
  11. Yes, right there. Someone had to point that out to me too. I would have never noticed her in either episode.
  12. Gotta love a Discord episode! Everyone seems to be talking about the Back to the Future and Bob Ross references, are you all in familiar with the movie that the title is a reference to? What about Bob was a brilliantly funny Bill Murray movie. Discord's outfit towards the end was from that movie, even the jar around his neck. Also, relieved to see Zecora! I was worried that she had been killed when Tierk was blasting the forest. *(apparently, she was at the Doodle wedding)
  13. AJ was the scarecrow last Nightmare Night. She will be "tin man" next time. First time was in "Bats!" (Only ACTUAL flutterbat) Then in a dream in "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" And recently in costume in "Scaremaster" That's all I can think of.
  14. Pony colon made some good points using "Dragon quest", but I'd like to make a few more using the same episode. Towards the beginning, when Spike was asking Twi about dragons, she said, "I wish I had the answers for you Spike, but ponies know virtually nothing about dragons." So, with ponies knowing nothing about dragons, I'm not sure they could help, even if he wanted them to. Which brings up the second point. Also from that episode, near the end, Spike tells PeeWee (the just hatched phoenix) "I'll teach you all about being a pony". It seems Spike is content being a pony. Addressing Spike not going on adventures, he dose'nt seem to miss going. Like when you were younger, and your parents would go out of town for the weekend, Spike seems to enjoy being home alone. I think it also gives him a sense of responsibility, that Twi trusts him to "hold down the fort", and to not feel like a baby. When he does go, the writers usually have a good reason, and he is treated well ("Princess Spike" not withstanding). Think about "Power Ponies" and "Equestria games", or most importantly, "Crystal Empire". Which brings up the third point. Remember in "Crystal Empire" when he was standing in Sombra's magic basement, and he was in front of the closed door crying, because the door had shown him his worst fear realized. His worst fear was that Twilight didn't need him anymore and would send him away. That leads me to believe that he's just fine with where his place among ponies is. In the future, when Twilight is the ruler of Equestria, having a full grown, fully realized dragon as an ally, along with Twi's weaponized friendship rainbows, would make Equestria a nation not to be fucked with!
  15. Don't forget, she can use dragons as mailboxes.
  16. So, like the title says, do you think that Octavia might be related to the Pie family? Maybe even closer than the Apples. Consider: Earth pony, check; grey scale coat, check; the way they looked at each other at the first Grand Galloping Gala, like they knew each other, check; Octavia rocks! Check please.
  17. The costumes were my favorite part of the episode! I gotta go with the CMC here. Mostly just for Scootaloo as a Wondercolt. That is the best costume! Honorable mention has to go to Apple Bloom for the ...ummm, is that a duckbill platypus? Why, Apple Bloom, why? No, seriously, WTF!?! Is Sweetie Belle dressed as Mare-ie Antoinette? I'm guessing Rarity had something to do with that. She was a nineteen seventies, roller disco, chick...errr pony.
  18. I resisted the urge to watch the early leak of this episod, and feel like a chump. I held out for this? A Nightmare Night episode airing on Halloween, and my b-day, maybe my expectations were a bit too high ( in defense of my expectations, I have loved almost every episode this season, it's been an amazing season!) But this was a big disappointment. Maybe the most disappointing episode ever. It is no big secret that fluttershy is my least favorite pony, and this episode only made me think even less of her. It's my birthday, so I'm going to try to be positive, and try not to go on a rant about everything that's wrong with fluttershy. Despite the utterly disappointing, overall nature of this episode, there were some things I liked about it. First of all, like the rest of this season, the art direction of the animation was beautiful. The richness in the textures naturally shine in (what should have been) a darkly themed episode. The costumes! What else can I say, the costumes were the highlight of this episode to me. Scootaloo in the Wonderbolt outfit was adorable! Missed Derpy as Twi, so I'll have to keep an eye out for that next watch. Rarity's mermaid costume was as ridiculous, and impractical as you would expect from her. The best was when she was trying to help fluttershy pick out an outfit, and every time she turned around, the tail slapped that useless bitch in the face. Yes, Rarity s mermaid tail, doing what I wanted to do that whole scene FTW!!! I found the gags with Pinkie on the skates, running throughout the episode, humorous. I liked that it was rather subtle (for Pinkie) ,and not just, over the top, Pinkie being silly. Not being able to stop quickly, because, wheels on hooves, and not being able to get traction to run away quickly, because, wheels on hooves, was so cute! And finally, saving the best for last. My favorite part of the episode, was at the end. Not just because a relatively bad episode was over. But because we learn that fluttershy will not be trying to ruin Nightmare Night for her friends anymore. Which means that from now on any, and all Nightmare Night episodes will be fluttershy free, and will have a much better chance of being fun! So at least it finished on a good note. P.S. also regarding "flutterbat", she had to wear a costume to have that appearance. She can't actually transform her shape into that, (except in her dream per "Do Princesses Dream of Magical Sheep?") so let it go. I think this episode put that notion to rest. So, I guess I liked that part too. Needed more Luna!!!
  19. I found it way funnier when he threw his wife off the balcony.
  20. They had to have made Pinkie a twin to stop the speculation that she was adopted. She is the only one in the whole family that isn't grey, and has curly hair. Also, she seems to be the only one who left the farm. It's like she's the black sheep of the family, only she is a pink pony. Maud and Pinkie are the only two not named after rocks. Which may not be as odd as their last name being Pie. Pinkie seems to be the only one into sweets, Pie works perfectly as her last name. It would seem like their last name would be Rocks. Pinkie Rocks would be a good name too. The Apple family grow apples on Sweet Apple acres, and all their names are related to apples. The Pie family have a rock farm, and most of their names are rock related, where does Pie come from? About Limestone, being the oldest, she probably feels a lot of pressure to run the farm, and please her parents, and may even be resentful that she has to stay there and take care of the farm, and the parents, while her siblings have less responsibility. Who's to say that AJ might feel the same pressure to please her parents, if they were still around? Everypony needs to back the hell off of Limestone!! She's doing the best she can, and running shit like a boss! I don't see anypony else that cares as much about keeping the farm running as she does. Pinkie left to sell cake, Maud is always going away to study rocks, which may be helpful, but dose'nt get the work done! Marble isn't going to take charge! For Celestia s sake, the parents are old! They don't need to be out in the field doing hard labor!
  21. Trixie said that she worked on A rock farm. Not necessarily the Pie family rock farm. Assuming that there is more than one rock farm in Equestria. But, yeah, if it was the Pie farm, Limestone would have been a hard ass boss!
  22. For all who are saying that Hearths Warming Eve is the pony equallevent of christmas, and that it is out of place that it comes before Nightmare Night (the pony equallevent of Halloween), keep this in mind, by next Thursday retail stores will be removing Halloween stuff and replacing it with christmas stuff. Stores start shoving christmas down our throats before Halloween. So, it is a fact that the christmas season starts before Halloween. Also, it is a fact that Apple Jack dose'nt always cry on the inside, as seen in this episode as well as when Apple Bloom got her cutie mark a couple weeks ago.
  23. Didn't catch the closing credits, but I'm guessing Daniel Ingram didn't write the song Maud sang at the end.
  24. They do things different down on the rock farm.
  25. Shining Armor is a Royal Guard. It seems he should have better observation skills than to not notice the change(long) in Cadence s behavior. For the benefit of the doubt, let's assume he did notice. Maybe he's used to Cadence being a bitch. My ex girlfriend was a raging bitch in private, but everyone thought she was so sweet. They only saw that side of her. When I broke up with her, everyone was like "why?", and I told them what a ~see you next tuesday ~ she was, they didn't believe me. TL/DR bitches be crazy! ...even alicorn princess, and you never know until after you get with them. P.S. maybe that's why Shining Cry's at weddings.
