Couple thoughts

People who give "De-constructive criticism" or whatever, should not be encouraged to give more positive criticism, they don't care to help the individual regarding the work that's being critiqued, because if they did, they would offer sound and practical advice rather than blatant insults or vague statements. This becomes pointless, it's better to stop being such a whiny baby, and ignore it. Who cares.

Learn to crave critique. Whenever I make content, I look forward to any comments that may contain tips that will improve my work in a general, all around sense. Of course I take all critiques with a grain of salt, and carefully go through and test out changes to see if they have a worthwhile and practical effect on the outcome of my work.

At the end of the day, whether or not other people are too nit-picky or not is really any of my concern. I'm a pretty level headed dude, so usually I have a pretty balanced opinion, I'm pretty good at discerning works and coming up with reasonable complaints that are beneficial to the content creator, so when I see other people who are so far removed from my opinion, I simply don't even let them bother me, especially if they aren't providing reasonable, and structurally sound examples as to why they're feeling how they feel.

Anyone else guessing that Starlight glimmer will go back in time and mess up something that happened around the same period where Twilight was making amends with Moondancer?

 

Yeah, she'll probably end up using the map to change events from the past, notably around the sonic rainboom incident I would imagine, as hinted at from the SDC animatic. Should be interesting.

Well no shit, all the vectors they use are from the show. They usually use the older vectors from the initial run of the series, the ones created before season one even aired. The fact that they're using newer vectors, and seemingly forgot to include Twilights wings, along side the fact that the background in the album art is Twilights castle is a little bit suspicious. It's quite an oversight.

And in the album art, Twilight has no wings. These are not your typical vectors that they like to reuse on many different 3rd party licensed products. Perhaps Twilight loses her wings in the finale? something interesting to speculate on I suppose. Looking forward to the album.

It was probably the most concise and cohesive product of the Equestria Girls trilogy. I certainly enjoyed it, more-so as a story than the previous movies, but less as an eye candy spectacle. The biggest problem I had with friendship games was the contrived way the concept of magic is handled by the inhabitants of that world. The people tend to be completely willing to believe in the concept, and are completely accepting of it when the script requires them to, and alternatively, not so willing when the script requires it. Magic is much more difficult to deal with in this world, because our inhabitants and setting more closely resemble human beings and our own world, so suspension of disbelief becomes more difficult to expect from the audience going in. We know magic isn't a thing that exists, and the people in EQG hold a similar belief, this is clearly shown in the first movie. Hell, it's even showcased beautifully by SciTwi in Friendship Games, her reaction to magic in general, and her dog being able to talk is clearly reminiscent of a world where magic is not a governing force, but science and logic is. Magic is then used as leverage at the end of Friendship Games but comes off as silly because The Crystal Prep students seem to buy it at the end of the movie, and are never shown to question what just went down. Does the whole town know about magic? Is the government aware? The police? Surely they must have seen the beam of light at the end of the first movie and Rainbow Rocks, was there no investigation? Are all of these students really keeping quiet about the whole ordeal? You would think they are because nobody seems to be batting and eyelid. I'm sure you can see how contrived and silly the whole thematic element is. Even in the DVD commentary of Friendship Games, writer Josh Haber jokes that he just couldn't figure out how to write magic into the story that made sense with context from the previous movies. At least with the first EQG and Rainbow Rocks, the students seem to fall under spells, that at least can explain away them retaining memories, but here no such plot device is used, it becomes more and more difficult to believe that these students aren't consciously aware of what's going on, and that these situations should be inducing panic or communication to people outside of the school. In sort, it's a mess.

All in all though, the movie was extremely enjoyable, I especially loved the juxtaposition between SciTwi and Sunsets character during the whole movie, and how we finally got to close Sunsets three movie long arc. This show has always been character driven, and luckily the "character" parts of this movie are for the most part well put together. Minus the mane six and their often boring, one dimensional dialogue, but at least the jokes worked, and they did have a reason to be in all of the scenes they were presented in. There's defiantly some enjoyment to be had here.

Hasbro and DHX did a great job, I was expecting a disaster of a movie, but what I got was a humble, delightful treat that I'm sure none of us were expecting. Looking forward to the 4th movie.

As in like you are still human when you came to Equestria. Some of the ponies are such good friends of yours that they even like to have you cuddle them in bed with them? (And sleep in the same bed as them as you drift off to sleep cuddling them)

 

Or as in very a cold winter night they don't want you to feel cold. So, let's say Applejack (or somepony else) wants to sleep next to you to keep you warm during a cold night. Since you don't have fur like she does, you can't handle the cold as much as her.

Uhuh, yeah sure, "cuddle" with them. Yeah, I'd "cuddle" with a pony, sure.

Not a big fan of the condensed TV version, but the full version is pretty varied and has a well defined arc. I love the pop punk influenced Rhythm section, notably the drums. It's kind of rad in a weird way, considering the overall tone of the song. 

I absolutely love this song, and I adore this movie. and I really hope I did this song some justice. What do you guys think?

I have terrible health anxiety, especially after experiencing lots of health issues. My staple belief in life is basically all we really have is our health right, we can have no money, nowhere to live, but we can still live meaningful lives, mostly do the things we want to do, have future plans and goals, but without the guarentee and strength of a well functioning body, you have all the potential to lose that very quickly. This is my greatest fear, especially losing something like this at a young age.

Do you think it's ok for guys to cry? Please be thoughtful and don't make your answers too shallow. Because this question can be answered in many ways.

Of course, why woulden't it be? The only reason I can think of is societies pre-concieved notions of masulinity. The "Men don't cry" attitude. There is a difference between being macho, and being manly. Macho is that big, burly mans man who never cires or shows emotion, the kind of guy who looks like he's not enjoying himself, like he doesn't care about what's going on. Manly men are daper, they show a wide range of emotions, and they're confident. Imagine like, Marcus Pheonix from Gears of War as Macho, and Dandy from Space Dandy more of the Manly type. A manly man would cry, a macho man woulden't.

As cool as that comparison is, men obviously can and should show their emotions, just like any human being should. Showing emotion is not some derogatory thing, but showing too much emotion could make you appear more feminine, the reason there is confusion is becuase women tend to have stronger emotional responces than men, and can remember these responces more clearly. Hence where the "Don't cry like a girl" sort of thing comes from, becuase Women emote harder, more dramatically, more clearly, more visually.

And this isn't me being sexist or something, this has been documented in scientific literature, and this steryotype exists becuase there's some truth to it. Feel free to do some research, very itneresting stuff.

Basically, it's OK for everybody to cry, it's a biological responce to strong emotions, why woulden't it be right. Sort of like asking "Is it OK to laugh?", yeah, obviously.

I used to drink about 5 two liters a day. But i've recently stopped drinking soda because i've developed 5 stones in my left kidney. Don't drink soda kids, mmmmmkay.

Oh my god, this happened to me to, I used to drink two liters a day, for about 8 years, just passed a stone a few days ago, completely stopped drinking soda. Scary stuff.

Since S6 will be made on the grounds of legalized gay marriage and there is a S6 do you think they would add themes that are more risque like adding a lesbian main character?

I don't think that FiM should really tackle more complicated political themes, or anything simply striving for social progression. If there was an oppurtunity to introduce a character with the traits you mention that only serves the story being told, or perhaps serves as a gag, and isn't just there to soap box a message, it would be fine I suppose. The problem really isn't with the theme, but the way that theme is handeled within the story, and how fluid it's addition would be incorporated.

I really enjoyed Pinkie Pride, one of my favorite season 4 episodes. I'm not much of a Werid Al fan, but Pinkie is my favorite character, and what really struck me about this episode was how well we transitioned between musical numbers and dialouge, keeping the pacing fast, while giving the audience enough information to emote and give a shit as to what was happening in the episode. I feel like Pinkie Pride was handled much better than MMC, from a technical writing perspective anyways. In MMC we where thrown in a nonsensicle direction (From the perspective this show usually has to offer), and not really given time to care about what was happening. Whether or not you like MMC usually comes down to how much you liked the songs, rather than the story being told, and I feel like Pinkie Pride did a much better job at handeling this sort of structure. The plot is simple and easy to follow, and doesn't need more time to be fleshed out and exposeted upon, which was MMC's biggest short coming for sure.

Pinkies entire life is predicated on the happiness of others, and to see somebody come in and do her passion as she percived as better (When in reality it was simply different) was a really smart move on the writers part. Every single artist has gone through what Pinkie experienced, and have had to learn that same lesson at some point in their careers. That really resonated with me becuase I'm a musican, and I know the feeling when somebody comes along and does everything better than you can. It's completely soul crushing ,and makes you feel like all your hard work and time was for nothing. Realizing that everybody is different, and that one persons way of doing things is not nessisarily better or worse, but simply different is a fantastic moral.

The RD line never bothered me, when somebody comes into town and offers a new way of doing something you've done a million times before, and he's clearly a charming, likeable person, it's easy to get swept up in the moment and say things you don't really mean.

I love how we expounded on Cheese Sandwichs character in the third act, fleshing out his backstory to give his presence and the resolution to our conflict more of a meaning.

Visual gags resonated with me, I didn't feel like this episode was too ridiculous, my expectation was already there knowing previous announcments, and obviously I expect a Pinkie Pie episode to be a bit zanier than usual. Actually in general my expectations for this show don't really exceed "Fun and Cute", so as long as this is acheived, I have a hard time disliking an episode.
 

I am heavily biased of course, bias is inherent, based on the fact that I love Pinkie, I love musicals, and I love that sort of zany random humor.

Absolutly, the only reason I still make content in this community is becuase I still love the show. I never understood these people who are more fans of the fandom rather than the show. The fandom is like, about the show, so if you don't like the show, why are you here? I originally fell in love with the show, then wanted to branch out socially after wanting to share thoughts and feelings. Like I know people who have only seen a few episodes of season one, and make music or whatever, and only stick around for the community aspect. It's like they know, or are too afraid to make their own original stuff not grounded by the mlp fandom, and choose to use it as a starting point, which I guess if fine, but it comes off as so inauthentic to me.

I wasn't, mostly becuase I've always been into kids shows, mostly on the anime spectrum, so it wasn't really something that stood out to me. I actually didn't even really know about the subculture until I sat down and watched a documentry on the whole thing. A day later I marathoned the first season, kek.

While I'm watching MLP sometimes I wonder why am I watching this? Then curl up into a fetal position and shake back and forth.

Not at all, I inherintly know why I like the show at a basic level, and it's becuase it makes me feel good, or it's fun to watch. I think this becuase I love the shows visual aesthetic, and I find the character interactions to be entertaining. I've always put good character interactions and visuals over top of like, cohesive, tight nit narratives, or large over-arching plot lines, so this kind of show already appealed to me long before I had even seen it. It's just good clean fun.

I was watching some pranks compilations on youtube and most of them were just plain awful. I saw RomanAtwood and Vitalyztv which were the examples of good pranksters on youtube. I saw a Sam Pepper video which made me cringed. As you may or may not know he was filed on some pretty messed up charges and found guilty.

 

Most of these self proclaimed youtube pranksters are not pranksters at all. They are just idiots seeing how much illegal stuff they can do before laughing and saying its a joke. One video was this dude asking if people wanted to buy guns from him, only to show they were water guns. 

 

Whats even more moronic is they went to ghettos and asked people this. Now, we all know ghettos see there fair share of violence, drug deals gone wrong, and swat raids. People in ghettos arent exactly chill about guns, random fights or someone dressed up as a killer with a fake gun. 

 

So theres at least three different youtube pranksters who do this kind of stuff. They go into the 'hood' and come off as hostile. When people try to protect themselves or punch the people away from them the pranksters get all upset and say its a prank.

 

I'm wondering do people find this funny or do they just watch to see the cocky, unfunny, nimrods get rekt?

I started a thread, some lets see, yesterday was thursday, and that was week from... a long time ago is when I made it. In that topic I asked my fellow community members (hey, thats you) if they liked to analyze the show, or if they treated it as a sunday morning cartoon. More or less how seriously they took Friendship is Magic.

 

I was surprised at the amount of contention between the two sides, and even more staggered by the amount of people who felt they werent extreme enough either way.So here I am, here you are. Do you think people, mainly bronies, need to start taking the show a little more seriously, or do you think that people take it too seriously already and need to tone it down?

 

Unlike my last thread, where I was generally apathetic towards choosing a side, here I have some things to say. I think bronies need to take it more seriously. Now I am NOT saying we need to catch every plot hole (hehe) or treat it like Game of Thrones (or A Song of Ice and Fire if you prefer), but I do think people are too quick to dismiss it as more than a simple cartoon.

 

Because (yes because can be used to start a sentence) it is obviously more than just a cartoon. Gumball, Teen Titans GO, and Spongebob are cartoons. They are shows we watch if we turn on the TV and its there. Bronies actively tune in each and every Saturday morning to watch it, the same way people tune in to watch The Walking Dead, CSI, or the aforementioned Game of Thrones.

 

If we are so quick to throw it to the wind, then who are we to say that people outside the fandom cant? Why are Anti-bronies wrong when they do it, but we are justified because "we watch the show." I dont know about you, but MLP is one of the best shows I have seen in my life. It has such good writing, excellent characters, complex world, interesting lore, genuinely funny comedy, and has created a fandom to rival Star Wars, Star Trek, D&D, and Sonic. Does that not deserve a grain of respect?

 

But enough of my babbling, this is a thread after all. What do YOU think? Is the show taken way to seriously by some bronies, or vice versa?

Your question is very contextual, it depends on what aspect of the show you think should be taken more or less seriously. I've noticed that out of the people who do episode reviews and analysis, the ones that take the show less seriously (They're not completely obsessed, and have the ability to laugh at themselves are the ones who tend to have points that I find to be more insightful and interesting.

Analysis in itself is also very contextual, as is any form of "art", and I could really care less about how seriously you take the fandom or the show, and am more interested in the substance of your content. I find most of the community doesn't actually do analysis videos, but more commentary and opinion pieces. I find those to be extremely boring. I myself do actual analysis on the fandom and the show, which can be found on the channel in my signature if you care.

As for wether or not I think people need to take this show more seriously or not, regardless of what they're making or not making, I think it's healthy to not take the show and fandom too seriously, but obviously to participate in a possitive way, you must at least care a little bit. It's more about a balancing act, have the ability to laugh at the fact that we all love a show about colorful talking horses, that it's a little kids show, but also take pride in what you like about the show and fandom, and don't be afriad to wear that on your sleeve.
