  2. Haha, It was my mistake as well. We've both just been misunderstanding one another. You do make some very good points about finding the right mix between character and abilities. Thanks, mate.
  3. I'm afraid that we are talking about two different things. You are referring to game design and power/ability balance in a Role Playing Game, while I am referring to character design and basic storytelling. I did mention that an alicorn OC is difficult to work with, including the various powers and abilities they may have. That is especially true when it comes to RPGs. After all, having a character that is too powerful a fit for a normal adventure is not very fun. But adventures can be built with powerful characters and abilities in mind. It takes more work and planning, but with enough imagination and effort any character could technically be used in a roleplay. Find a DM who's willing to work with an alicorn in an RPG and you're set. Again, however, my original post was not in reference to general game design or power balance, but in simply creating an interesting character to write about and participate in many kinds of roleplays with.
  4. A good alicorn OC is possible, but difficult to work with. Being able to fly and use magic is quite 'OP', but it's all in how you work with it. Look at characters like Superman, basically the most OP character ever yet written in such a way as to not be completely boring. The secret is to let your character have enough defects to allow conflict. So, sure! Make an alicorn OC! Go for it. Make her fly and use magic, shoot lazers, be a really good dancer, whatever you want. But maybe she's socially awkward. Or maybe she's full of herself because of her abilities. Get creative with it! Here's a cool idea that definitely isn't boring. Consider the impact of an alicorn just showing up in Equestria one day. Heck, Equestrian citizens essentially equate being an alicorn with being royalty! So one just coming out of nowhere is a pretty big deal and would cause a lot of trouble. Even better, if your OC really does just want to be treated like a normal pony, having everyone reacting adversely would surely cause enough conflict to reamain interesting. Just an idea, though. Do whatever feels right. Best of luck to all those out there who want to make a good and useable alicorn OC.

  5. Awww yis This thread inspired me to make the best thing I've ever done. So here's it is, freshly made. http://fav.me/d97om3t
  6. Dear Princess Moonlight, thank you for not giving up. I find myself enjoying your work and seeing the amount of effort you put into them. Keep it up!
  7. Mlp inspired me to start trying my hand at drawing. I became a fan back in 2012 and started soon after that sooooo... three years I guess?
  8. I'd love to believe I'm talented enough to be involved, but whether or not that is true is up to you I guess. What kind of timetable are you looking at for a project like this?
  9. http://orig05.deviantart.net/9bf9/f/2015/114/5/a/rarity_on_my_head_by_coltboy-d5wsfyk.jpg I just have one but I couldn't be more pleased.
  10. I would be quite interested in such an analysis. Where might I find it?
  11. Titenic: The JonSong, I guess. :/
  12. I too have been seeing troubles with getting into the Roleplaying here. As a newcomer, it's just hard to find a place where I feel comfortable with starting out. This is heaven sent, I tell you
  13. Fried chicken breaded with Cheez-its. It's a pretty funny story but boy did it taste bad.
  14. Yup. Cook's comics are my favourite (they are the most fun to read) but to seriously consider them canon is far too problematic, especially when it comes to how the characters are written.
  15. I agree. And you explained it pretty well, mate. The mane 6 are all much too immature to be 20+ years old. They are teenagers, but not teenagers like we know in our society, because pony society is completely different! The Digibrony video does go over it so well as he presents evidence and logic to not only show that it is a sound theory, but also explain why the theory is so cool and how it enhances the show.
  16. That looks so much better than I ever imagined. Forgive my previous doubts. At this point the only thing I'd be worried about is how comfortable for a horse a costume like that would be. I'm no expert but I think that'd be fine.
  17. If it wasn't harmful, I don't see why not. It might even be a pretty cool thing to do at a rodeo or something. Although I suppose the biggest problem would be making them look not totally creepy. Cartoon horses are cute and real horses are lovely but real horses dressed up like cartoon horses seem like they would have a high chance of looking pretty repulsive.
  18. I think centipedes are the only thing that will send me careening away in true terror. Chilopodophobia, I guess. I can not think of any other cretin that radiates evil out of its horrible glistening carapace. Scared of snakes or spiders? Forget them. Those are as dangerous as a potted plant compared to these monstrosities. They come just as venomous as any snake or spider might, but ten times as aggressive. They are not satisfied with just acting dangerous to scare you away like a kinder creature might; no, they are going to hunt you down and they will not stop until they have sunk their flesh-crunching mandibles into your skin and injected you with their painful poisons. They can move twice as fast as you can run. There is no escape.
  19. Mine was made for me as a gift a long time ago by an old DeviantArt buddy of mine. http://classicamy.deviantart.com/art/Twilight-Pinkie-Rarity-343120762 I'll always remember my pleasant surprise brought on by the thoughtfulness in her heart. We've since fallen out of touch for one reason or the other, and not due to any fault of our own, to be clear. While I do feel a taint of melancholy over old friendships that I used to enjoy, I take comfort in knowing that I have these memories and these momentos of the past while looking forward to knew relationships in the future. This avatar is one of those momentos, one of those comforts.
  20. I'm new to this site as well, in fact. But I can already tell I have nothing to fear. I have received nothing but kindness. Keep in touch, y'hear?
