  1. I don't know why I found this so funny xD - maybe it's because of I've had a cat before?

haha, my cat jumps super high. It's funny.:D

  2. The fighting is magic game was C&D'd by Hasbro, so the creators scrapped it and made a new game that features some ponies (not the mane 6) and some other four-legged creatures. Alex S is long gone but others like princewhateverer and 4everfreebrony do too. The fandom doesn't have the "trendy" aspect it used to have, but it's still going strong. Season 8 premieres next month, with Generation 5 expected in 2020.
  3. Nothing in life will compare to the frustration of getting up at 5:30 AM to see a lunar eclipse that is blocked by clouds... :okiedokieloki:

  4. Norway, right? Yeah, our judicial system seems revenge-based. Keeping someone in a cell doesn't help people, treatment does. Prison itself is not a form of rehabilitation, and our high recidivism rates allude to that.. If indicted, he'll probably spend a few years in jail with no mental health treatment. It would be saddening, but it preferable to nothing... Let me refer you to the actual definition of forgiveness...
  5. Correct; I'm trying to clear up that misconception. Punishment/condemnation and forgiveness aren't mutually exclusive. I don't dispute this; I meant forgiveness being an obligation as an end goal, meaning that we should eventually reach that point. The speed at which it is reached is irrelevant so long as it is. I can't, however, think of any sort of therapeutic method that would require holding on to anger indefinitely; that would defeat the purpose of "working through" said anger. Only if said anger helps in the rehabilitation process. Tempestuously projecting anger would not help anyone; it would only brew more negativity. You could probably argue that a certain amount could help with process it, but I'm sure you can agree that at some point it becomes unhealthy. I probably could've worded that better; I meant that the shock value of this incident shouldn't have been what it was. Some have openly wondered if they should leave the fandom over this, as if sexual harassment isn't something that happens here. We've created this "norm" of what the community is like, that when that norm is shattered, so are our perceptions of the community. I meant that predators aren't rare here and that we shouldn't act as if they are.
  6. There are other predatory figures out there, and in the fandom. Don't let this incident make you assume that it's isolated; it's not. There very well could be other well-known horsefamous people with secrets that could land them in trouble like this. It's easy to put put this off as one crazy event that won't happen again, but this is a normalcy bias tendency we all have and doesn't reflect reality. The Oxford definition of forgiveness is to "stop feeling angry or resentful toward (someone) for an offense, flaw, or mistake." It is not about condoning an individual's actions; rather, it is about releasing your hurt from it. Therefore, it should be everyone's obligation to forgive, as it repairs ourselves and has nothing to do with the other individual. Forgive not because the other person deserves redemption, but because you deserve freedom.
  7. It's because "Q" is a rarely used letter, so when it is used, it stands out. It's basically the brain's tendency to add distinction to things to make it quicker to recognize.

  10. @Justin_Case001 in response to the paragraph quoted above: Deism is the belief in a creator that is separate from and doesn't influence the universe, whereas theism is just the belief in at least one god. A deist is a theist; the terms aren't mutually exclusive. Fundamentalist was the word you were looking for. Gnosticism could also describe it.

  12. @Justin_Case001 ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I believe the reason for the high distrust toward atheists is due to America's high degree of religiosity. Naturally a country will be more averse to a group when there's less of it. In Europe, where religious numbers are lower, I highly doubt that atheism is as distrusted as it is here. I definitely agree with you that atheism isn't immoral or evil, being irreligious myself. Misconceptions should always be fought. I have no issue with your post if that was your premise.
  13. Heresy =/= atheism. Heresy was literally just having an opinion contrary to orthodox religious doctrine. If you differed from the norm at all, you could be tortured/killed. The Inquisition wasn't directed at atheists, it was directed at anything at odds with what was strictly accepted. Try being openly Christian, Jewish, or anything but Muslim in most of the Middle East. Persecution isn't limited to atheism. Give me one historical example of genocide happening against atheists. Again, skepticism of the strict norm =/= atheism. What was the actual premise of your post then? Was it supposed to be about just clearing up misconceptions? It would've been that until the fifth paragraph where you stated that atheism was the new social frontier following racial equality and LGBT rights. There's no comparison between misconceptions and actually being barred your rights. Saying things like "people are generally cool with homosexuality but not with atheism" is incredibly asinine because one group was actually discriminated against and stigmatized to no end, whereas the other has far fewer problems. I get you didn't mean that, but it seemed obvious when reading that that that was what you meant (lol at those 3 'thats').
  14. TV shows generally avoid religion in general, so the characters aren't going to express their religious views very often. It's not like a character is going to suddenly scream "hey guys, I'm an atheist!!" There aren't that many "openly Christian" if we're assuming they have to announce it to be considered such. Also, 23% of the US population is irreligious, so it's unfair to say that they would be ignored if TV shows were more centered around religion. Gays, in contrast, make up 3% of the population, far less than atheists do. You also seem to be suggesting that atheists belong in the same category as LGBT people and racial minorities, despite the fact that they haven't endured the discrimination that the last two have. Has an atheist's house been firebombed because of their lack of belief in a god? No, they haven't, so it's unfair to put them in the same group.

@KTAG I only really like pop and alternative rock. And even in those genres I'm picky. I pretty much tune out anything that isn't either of those.

Some people like everything, which I find unfathomable..

  20. 1. The debate pit is nowhere near as turbulent as some parts of the Internet. In fact, I'd say it's pretty tame. I've seen far worse things in Facebook and YouTube comment sections. 2. Provided it's hidden from the front page, it shouldn't bother anyone who doesn't want to see it. 3. It acts as a balancing point of all things of an argumentative nature on the site. If a controversial news story is posted, it can easily be moved to that section. The concentration of those kinds of topics in one place prevents impassioned topics from reaching other parts of the site, thus keeping the whole site cleaner. 4. It is heavily moderated. Trolling is met with bans, and other poor conduct is met with warnings and/or locking topics. The report function is always there, too. 5. Political posts would essentially be forbidden on the site, given their potential to spark controversy. Topics of this nature aren't necessary to censor, since political events do play a part in our lives.
  21. Since it wasn't a big release, and it didn't was never meant to be heavily advertised, then it shouldn't be compared to every other movie. For where it's gotten to, I don't think there's room for disappointment. Also keep in mind that the movie hasn't really been shown in some countries yet (it releases November 2nd in Australia and New Zealand, which is today there), so there is still some room for box office growth.
  22. hey...I remember you!
