Objectively, this fandom is filled with so much attention whoring and this fake sort of "niceness" that it sometimes manages to disgust me.

I've seen the straightest guys joining the fandom and becoming couples, and for the autism, well, majority of the fandom is just a huge cringe contest.

The last point is a good one. You will indeed meet all sorts of people with different opinions, especially the open minded.

There's a lot of things that can be attributed to this fandom

• It will make you gay and I'm not even joking
• It's full of attention whoring
• A lot of figurative autism
• And a wide wide wide variety of special people and personalities

The last one is the only one worth being here for. I still often avoid the label of a brony.

You don't need to be a competitor to be an athlete. And considering that a lot of gamers you will find will be fat, I don't think you can call gaming competitors athletes. For the sake of argument:

1. You can't be a competitive runner without being an athlete
2. You can be a competitive gamer with ease without being an athlete
3. Therefore being a competitive gamer doesn't make you an athlete

Competitive gamers aren't athletes from the virtue of being competitive gamers. In English, my answer is no.

I'd really love to hear experiences about this as well. I've had my few shitty attempts in the past but I was either scared or just didn't make it.
