Yes she is, and alot of people who say she isn't are just lying to themselves trying to justisfy her overshadowing aspect she takes to the show, and them being fans themselves. She's by far the most advertised pony in and out verse as far as her having the majority of the most memorable moments, scenes, narrative, humor and overall in crowd compatibility with the fans(next to Pinkie and Twilight), the fact she's basically a Saturday morning Superhero in a group of mundane ponies (outside of Pinkie and Twilight) It makes her even more completely pampered above the other girls. She overshadows every pony even Twilight and has more memes about herself than any pony, again equally Pinkie who is supposed to be the humor character and the shows mascot type. But unlike Twilight she has plot devicey privileges not even Pinkie can have, she can break the law of physics, become a mcguffian for the girls being friends, literally personify the peagusi and rainbow motiff over the fandom, and basically has so much edgy personality she can literally lead her own movie. And wanna know why she's so popular she literally forces people to endure a girls show and like it by being the coolest example of something so stand out it's wrapped in a cute little package of bad***. Rainbow Dash is the only one I can say saved this show from obscurity and underground status, now look at it she's and her friends have become popular enough to have a movie now and she's basically the 2nd main character after Twi. Her episodes are actually focused on using her side of the world as a stage for her greatness amongst not only her friends but her entire spieces, plus she's the only one who will call out her friends for being idiots and gladly stand in as the one sane mare who snarks at everything crazy(After Twilight of course but RD is much more funny about it).

I think it's RD who's the Bart Simpson of the show, but she's just a idiot jock who represents the realistic flaws of us while leaving the meta humor to Pinkie.

I feel Twi has to have Mary Sue Tendencies if Rainbow Dash(and Pinkie Pie to an extent) is allowed to have a bigger impact in episodes and more memorable scenes.

I don't like her, but I feel she's meant to be the one who we can see being casual with out of the girls, due to her blunt and outspoken nature. Her arrogance and cockiness is meant to be funny, not taken serious it is a cartoon after all, she's pretty annoying and cliche trying to be a rad chick but she adds enough cuteness too make it endearing. She knows more than she lets on, she's just focuses on the short term than big picture again this is what makes her as relatable and realistic compared to other ponies and has a strong sense of adjusted principles to point out all things that go overblown to the other girls. She's strongwilled and fearless but insecure and lonely like any other person in the real world. Her qualites and flaws stick out because RD acts less like a cartoon character but a exxageration of us as a cartoon character making her more identifiable. She's a superhero and basically incapable of not being pushed aside from the others in plot impact, since she's more capable and even more action packed that the main character she's stand out more. People love seeing someone be the center of the action and even more own the scene they are in.

They represent two primal innate aspects of defined essentials that are ideal for an ambition, willpower and pride. I would like to bring in a comparison to Warhammer series Chaos Gods Khorne and Slaanesh. Khorne is about honor and duty to strive towards an ideal or a path of control with a inflexible resoluteness and strength of character. He is power earned and slaved with honest physical intentional projection for it's sake alone without any of the perks of self satisfaction and pursuits of happiness. Slaneesh is questing for progress and perfection and enjoying every moment in her own pace without any tedious or boring trouble, she serves herself with the ego of being on top of the world and always yearns for a quick fix, being the center of attention is the meaning of life to her. Applejack seems like Khorne amped up with western hero cliches and none of the execess evil muder tendencies and Rainbow Dash is a Athletic super jock of Slannesh and none of the perverted degeneracy. AJ and RD also has both Tzeentchian and Nurgilian tendencies, AJ has Grandpa Nurgles Patience and Empathy for everything and RD has Tzeentch's quest for progress, and loves to Troll and scheme(Prank) just to shake up a status quo of mundane borddom.

I agree RD and Pinks are the the most child like in presentation of the main ponies, RD is mostly immature and ignorant while PInkie Pie is Innocent and simplistic. Naivety comes in the form of RD's lack of interest and empathy in things not related to her and her inability to accept things that aren't related to her some form of action and thrill. Pinkie is naive because she doesn't understand the order of self control or tact because she wants/needs to experience joy, fun, and happiness while she remains free of anything opposite of those, she also wants everyone to enjoy life because she does in her own pov. Mind if I fix that. RD is the one who doesn't connect on a emotional way to her friends and is too direct and insensitive to many strangers. Pinkie is the autistic esqe one who has trouble with characters because she's a child trapped in a grown womans body.

Rarity and RD are getting some major development so maybe.

RD is by far the most accomplished Sonic Rainboomer to the point it's her signature move and owns it herself.

I just call it the Twilight/Rainbow show just to save time.

Rainbow Dash gets too much focus and special treatment compared to the rest of the girls minus twilight, she's a creators pet at this point. And by far the most important of the mares in support, skillset, and overall power. Especially in power where she's basically a anime hero and second only the twilight in being the most capable in battle or solving head on problems with strength, speed and determination when twilight herself can't do it. She and Pinkie are the icons of the show and even this forum displays her as the main draw for casuals to become mlp fans. Really her existence inhibits all the main six even twilight in being as cool or entertaining as her because she's the easiest character to write for fans and appeal to them(Even twilight sometimes can't come close RD's IT factor). She's badass, charsmatic, tough, sarcastic, carefree, and fearless. Flawed and not the ideal role model but she's still a adheres to the themes of the show in her own way. This makes her friends seem too boring and vanilla, because she's the only one who is allowed to be the stand out, be the edgy one who does the rebel stuff, the unconventional star that strays from feminine cliches and brings the new hardcore elements that men and normal down to earth girls like. She also has to learn from her own flaws the most since she is a stand in for the kids who get careless about their actions as well as be treated as a troublemaker who everyone thinks her antics are going too far. While people like Applejack, Rarity and Pinkie Pie play roles in static amounts and just come off as tedious plain main heroines that really bring nothing but idealistic facets of moral imperatives and hardly get reprimanded like Rainbow because she has the anti mare and thusly the most imperfect. Why should RD be the most flawed and prone to bad habits, Pinkies to innocent and goofy to have RD's self interested callousness even though she's as mischievous and prone to seeking excitement, Rarity has a composure and elegant allure of consideration but she's Arrogant, Conceited, and Self Assured as RD, Applejack is a just well adjusted all around and is more mature than all the ponies but she thrives on pride, ego, and greed. She and Rainbow are like two sides of the same coin. Rainbow is wild and non accountable to Aj's cool and responsible but they both have the same beliefs in being the best and pride. I wish the girls had Rainbow Dash's conscious imperfect traits, or at least where all equal to her in being able to take to the action in their own way.

Twilight and Rainbow are basically Superheroes/figureheads of the show, Twilight becoming godhood and royalty as well as the leader of the mares fighting any threat, Rainbow is a official hero and active guardian of sorts in a military air strike team tied to the royal goddesses. They just seem to be the focal protectors of Equestria and fighters, all the other girls are just regular career seeking ponies that are tied to a essential destiny and role. But twilight and rainbow are the two that make up the superhuman part of the six and by far the most important. Rainbow is basically Twilights second in command and maybe best friend of the two because she's basically a superhero(she was the towns main hero once) and the local action girl. I wish she shared that role with AJ, Rainbow became basically the second main protag after Twilight as a role in the show.
