This episode is focused on Celestia and Luna, took long enough to get a sister buddy episode for them. It started off well enough with Luna and Celestia helping out situations involving the mane 6. It then became a sort of duling storylines episode, with the Celestia and Luna portion and the mane 6 trying to run Equestria as practice for their incoming transition into leadership. Segment 2 started with a great song featuring Celestia and Luna. Love the combined voices of Celestia and Luna in song. Celestia is a bit more wild, where Luna is wanting to do the more mundane. The things that each sister pushes on the other makes the episode that much better. The mane 6 storyline features the return of Fancy Pants and some of the other uppercrust ponies. Segment 3 begins with the mane 6 storyline and Twilight being twilight. This is followed up by Luna and celestia doing things alone. The finale to the episode, Celestia and Luna talking was by far the best thing about this episode. I love this sibling dynamic between the two. This episode was fantastic, from the handful of pop culture references, the designs of Celestia and Luna for their day off, and the dueling storyline with the Mane 6 (and Twilight twilighting). This is one of, if not the best, episode of the season thus far.

This was the first instance of Applejack being EXTREMELY stubborn, which is one of the reasons why I really enjoy this episode. It's a comedy of errors brought on Applejack and her insistence to finish the harvest following the stampede of cows in the first segment of the episode. The episode is made that much better with each of the 6s (besides Twilight) things to do throughout the episode, which made her more and more loopy by the second. Plus... DASHFACE!   The second segment featured her doing the trick with RD and the botched muffins AKA baked bads with Pinkie Pie (and Derpy in the background) made this segment a fun watch followed up by AJ and Winona botching the 'Bunny Census' and the ensuing bunny stampede (didn't really care for this part). Twilight with all the alliteration followed up by AJ FINALLY accepting help ended this episode on a positive note. Overall, this was a quality early series episode focused on a character flaw of one of the mane 6. Not a classic, but certainly not awful either.

The cold open is fantastic. Love the very start of it, and of course Starlight being adorable is never a bad thing. It also wouldn't be a Starlight focused episode without at least one nervous chuckle. Trixie is being particularly overly herself in this. As usual, Spoiled Rich has forgotten the lesson she learned in the earlier episodes. The others definitely seem competent... except for Trixie and Spoiled Rich. The other three choices were interesting in their own ways. Good seeing the guardians and parents again as well. The return the Octavia/Vinyl Scratch duet from Slice of Life was a fun little interlude, along with the facial expressions of Gallus. Trixie louces everything up as usual. The facial expressions are amazing as usual. Starlight is being a bit mean spirited to Trixie, but that was needed. Twilight is amazing as usual. Sunburst being thrown into the role of Vice Headstallion was a great choice in the end. Overall, a very good episode that features one of the better pairings in the series.

Good cold open. Pinkie Pie was very pinkie at the start. I also got significant Willy Wonka vibes here. But it looks just as boring as a normal factory. Pinkie is still being as typically Pinkie throughout the episode. Sans was a good character throughout the entire episode. The visual gags were great as well. The return of Weird Al in a more subdued role was a great choice for this episode, with a call back to his time before the factory. The montage with pinkie doing gags and the "science" of comedy was fantastic as well. The song (which isn't a surprise with the musical genius that is Weird Al at his best) was absolutely fantastic, showing just how much of a range he really has. Overall, this was a fantastic episode and a great way to start off the second half of the final season.

Oh the cold opening is absolutely brilliant. Angel is being his usual self, and that's what makes the episode that much better. Seeing Fluttershy interact with all the animals in the sanctuary is great. Loving the continuity between the earlier episodes pertaining to the Sanctuary. Love the bodyswapping aspect of the episode here. The cadence of Fluttershy (as Angel) is absolutely phenomenal. Love that they went this way on the episode. Angel is being just as cruel as he previously was as a bunny. Love the ending to this episode with the entire population of the sanctuary helping to swap them back. Overall, this was a very good episode exploiting the bodyswap trope that has been used in many cartoons. It was a great episode with a great ending.

The cold open was pretty good, featuring Rarity and Spike. AJ being the replacement in the gem cave was brilliant. The montage of things that she normally does with Spike with substitutes was interesting as well. The middle segment features Rarity's envy and jealousy coming out, keeping Spike from spending time with Gabby. It's the main 6 ponies relearning issues that they should have learned yet again. Rarity is the main antagonist here, letting her major jealousy and envy of Gabby come out. It was an okay episode, but Rarity's character here was not great. The main 6 taking turns with Rarity was probably the best part of the episode.

Here's my review of the last two MLP episodes, so I don't fall behind any more than I already have.
Starting with Common Ground. First off, I love that they had Patton Oswalt, his daughter and current wife in this episode. It was super adorable and his daughter's character was cute as well. I liked that Quibble was trying to bond with his 'daughter' in the episode over Buckball. Good continuity to the earlier Buckball episode (dispite AJ not being involved). Overall, I really did like this episode. It was a good paced, well written episode with RD trying to help (which didn't help in the end).

Next is She's All Yak. So... much... shipfuel in this one. Love that Yona got the time to shine in this episode. But, there's a lot that I do not like about it either. One, they basically turned her into a yak version of Rarity. That really annoyed me. Did love the ending to this episode. And I loved the pony Yona during the song. But, this episode overall had more good moments than bad. Overall, I liked the episode. Yona finally got some time to shine, and they did a good job with her. I just wish that they didn't turn her into a yak version of Rarity.

The cold open sets up that this is gonna be our first Pinkie/Dash centered episode. This is peak early series pinkie being pinkie and one of the episodes that made me a huge fan of her. It also led Pinkie to bond with RD over their mutual enjoyment of pranks (and of course the hiccups with Spike and Pinkie). Much of this first segment was peak RD/Pinkie pranking fun, which is what made the episode enjoyable to begin with. Gilda joins the fray and instantly I got transported into 'dweeb' land. THis part of the episode where Gilda is basically trying to pull RD away from Pinkie is one of my least favorite parts of the season. Gilda wasn't exactly a great antagonist to begin with, with her only defining variable being her 'friendship' with RD. Pinkie being persistent in her attempts to appear to Gilda als makes this episode pretty good. But... the only one worse is the part where Gilda basically screamed at Fluttershy for getting in the way. This does not make her a good antagonist, this just makes her a jerk. I know that's how they wrote her, but that's no excuse. The party was just one large prankfest to attempt to ingratiate Gilda into her new friends was a great way to end this episode. Overall, it was a nice early series episode establishing a bit of RD's past and the start of the RD/Pinkie dynamic seen throughout the entire rest of the series. It's just a shame that Gilda was in so few episodes, because she had so much potential as a character.

I love the fact that Fluttershy is playing a semi-antagonist role here in this episode. It's a very interesting. twist to her character, and her usual character trait of being too trusting for her own good. Then again, that's why we all love her. The return of Ahuizotl makes the final episode that features Daring Do that much better. But, again, this episode focuses on the nieveities of Fluttershy and just how trusting she truly truely is. The end absolutely fantastic. I love how Fluttershy saves the day yet again. Love this build that they gave Ahuizotl at the end here, and the turn around with Ahuizotl and Caballeron. Overall, I thought the build up for this was good. I also loved the use of Fluttershy in this as well. Finally, I loved the overdue return of Ahuizotl and the character building that his character went through.

The apple family dynamic was absolutely brillant in this episode from start to finish. I have always enjoyed the apple family episodes because of this tight knitted way. Apple Bloom and AJ were brilliant in this one, especially in the final act of the episode. Overall, it had a really good pace, a nice story, and the flashback which tied into the story about AJ. I really hope the address this again later in the season.

The rewatch starts today. Beginning back at the start... with the series review.
Part 1: Seeing the book open up gave me chills. And of course I sang the theme when it played. The opening segment was peak Twi being Twi of course. Seeing pinkie appear on the screen put an instant smile on my face (best pony FTW!). Apple Bloom's puppydog eyes and expression... totally peak her. Rainbow's introduction is pretty much why I got interested in the show... the moment she started laughing is why I got interested. Rarity's intro is typically Rarity, and of course Spike... Fluttershy was being peak cute and adorable, totally one of my favorite moments of the entirety of part 1. Pinkie Pie's party is, of course, Pinkie being Pinkie. Seeing the background be repeated on this scene shows just how far the show has come over the 9 year run. Plus... CMCs huddled up before they were officially friends. Overall, the first part of the series premiere was a very solid start for the show, introducing each member of the 6 individually doing what they would go on to do best throughout the show. Grade: A-
Part 2: While part one was all about establishing the main players and the plot for the remainder of the episode, part two was all about defeating Nightmare Moon and how to find the Elements. For the first time that these 6 being together, I forget how great they were together almost right off the bat and how they weren't going to abandon Twi even through they hadn't known her for that long. The episode shows off each of the 6's main traits... which sets up the plot for the rest of the series really. Fluttershy's was particularly adorable (because that's the type of pony she is). Pinkie's was my favorite of the bunch... because it was the first of her many random song breaks (and the first official song of the series). Twi going through each of the 5's representations really shows how great they were together right off the bat. For it being early in the series, the animation quality is fairly good. The moment with Celestia and Luna always makes me tear up because it's such a touching moment Yes there were a few animation errors here and there, but those will happen early in new series. Overall, part two was a solid way to end the series premiere with the 6's first challenge and enemy to defeat. My grade: A+

This episode shows just how much Twilight has matured over this season with the lack of a typical twilight freakout. It did a good job to build up the story for the remainder of the season as well. Discord could have been a bit better utilized in the episode, but really is just a nitpick. Overall, I think this episode did a good job of building up the suspense for the remaining episodes on the schedule.

    #TaylorvilleStrong
One year ago today, a massive EF-3 tornado swept through my hometown of Taylorville, IL damaging 700 buildings and destroying 30. The outpouring of support that we’ve gotten from not only each other, but from the surrounding cities and counties means a lot to not only me but to the entire populous of the city. I will never ever forget that day. I was watching supercell storms transverse the Illinois River valley in the few hours before the Taylorville tornado. I wasn’t really paying attention to the small storm that started to form just east of St. Louis at around 3 pm. None of us could possibly know what was going to come. The following morning, my dad and I did a quick survey of damage. I was extremely shocked at what I saw. The devastation was shocking but the fact that this happened in Taylorville was even more shocking. The damage I saw will be ingrained in my memory forever. It’s hard to believe it’s been 1 year, and it’s great to see just how far we’ve come. But Taylorville is still coming back. So, here’s to Taylorville continuing to come back as well as it can.

The cold open was peak early series cheese, showing off the dynamic that Spike and Twi have. The episode sees the introduction of the dunces Snips and Snails, who are buying into the lies that were pitched by Trixie. Trixie's introduction was peak Trixie, as she brags heavily throughout her introductory scene. She also introduces the Ursa Major part of her story. And of course the morons Snips and Snails eat it all up. This was absolutely peak Trixie with her insufferable and constant bragging.
Segment two started with the various Mane 6 members trying to show up Trixie with what they are best at, which Trixie would just use to humiliate them with. Twi continues to be adorable throughout this episode. But, what ruins this episode for me is the complete and total morons Snips and Snails continue to show just how dumb they really are. Twi just doesn't get that she wouldn't be bragging when she's defending her friends against Trixie. The two morons end up finding an 'Ursa Major'.
The final segment shows just how much of a fraud that Trixie is throughout, and that Twilight had to clean up the mess (as usual). Twi was great in this segment using her magic to get what we would find out is a Ursa Minor and it showed just how great of a character that she would be moving forward.
Overall, this was a good quality episode and Twilight was great in this episode. Snips and Snails were completely idiotic as well. It's a shame that Trixie didn't get another episode until season 3.
