As usual, I'm fashionably late to the party but I finally watched the film! Personally, I felt like the plot was stretched a bit thin, which was something I was concerned about when the trailer came out. There were a lot of new characters (and locations) introduced, all very interesting and with a lot of potential but there just wasn't enough time to develop them properly - except Tempest. Who completely stole Storm King's thunder. I can't praise the animation enough though, it was so beautiful. The MLP animators could give anime producers a run for their money, because those sparkly eyes were so pretty they were practically shoujo-level.

I'd tell myself to branch out. I was way too hung up on the idea of drawing people (in that I thought drawing anything other than people was boring). I mostly draw objects and animals now and I wish I'd let myself draw those sooner. Plus I'd tell my younger self - or even my past self, from like, 3 seconds ago - that it's okay to make mistakes. I had/have too many sketchbooks that I haven't used, pencils/pens/paints/whatever I haven't opened, all because I'm scared to make mistakes. I'm mostly a digital artist now but it's a shame to think about how much I could've (or can) accomplish if I'd just put my fear aside and let myself make something, even if was a mess.

I've never been an active participant in any sort of fandom but I used to lurk in the shadows of the BSN forums and (once it was taken down) the unofficial forums, as well as DA confession blogs and the like. I'm still very much a fan but there's been some tension in the DA/ME fandoms for a while, so I had to take a step back for my own enjoyment of the games.

What comes to mind when you think of cats?
AnchorPoint replied to heavens-champion's topic in General Discussion
I think of my own cats. They're demons and I love them. The long haired one is Biscuit. She's scared of everything, loves yogurt, and has a strange obsession with plastic bags. The short haired one is Berry. He's a lovable old man but likes to bite my dog's feet and pretend he's the one actually being hurt. -

Has a bad episode ever ruined a character for you?
AnchorPoint replied to ggg-2's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Discord's episodes since his true redemption have kinda spoiled (or at least lessened my enjoyment of) his character for me. 'What About Discord?' and 'Dungeons and Discords' in particular. I thought 'What About Discord?' would be a turning point for his character and that he'd start to form friendships with each of the Mane 6. So far (at least where I'm at in the series) it doesn't seem that way and too much of his character still revolves around his friendship with Fluttershy. I did like him a bit more in 'To Where and Back Again' because of his interactions with Trixie, but I still feel like he lacks a lot of depth compared to how he was as a villain/not-totally-redeemed-ally. -
I tend to have a nap if I'm feeling really down. It's like time travel. Just less worrying about waking up in a futuristic post-apocalyptic wasteland and more hoping I don't wake up in the same terrible mood as before. It usually works and I feel a lot better just for letting my mind rest and being somewhere warm and comfortable. Eating plenty of chocolate and watching something lighthearted, like cartoons or stand up, really helps my mood too.

24 hours with a pony of your choice in the real world.
AnchorPoint replied to OmegaBeamOfficial's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Rarity. Favouritism aside, I think it'd be fun to have a girly day with her. I can barely be bothered to do the basics usually, so a full day of pampering, like at-home beauty treatments/the works would be so nice. If she could teach me the basics of sewing and share her secret for how to brush a very huffy cat's fur then that'd be an added bonus. -
Pony wearing a hijab?
AnchorPoint replied to Anonymous Old User Who Has Left's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I don't see anything wrong with showing a pony wearing a hijab, whether it's a background character or a new secondary character. I mean, aren't the Pie family loosely depicted as Amish in certain episodes? Igneous Rock Pie's design in particular. As far as I've seen religion isn't referenced in any of the Pie Family episodes, despite design choices. So couldn't the same be done with a pony wearing a hijab? -

Without getting into anything too deep; people who talk too much and end up dominating the conversation, especially if it's done 'for the benefit' of someone who is shy and/or quiet. I appreciate the thought behind trying to keep things flowing but it can hardly be called a conversation with just one participant. I wish I could but I just can't handle listening to 10+ minutes of non-stop talking anymore. My mind starts to wander and towards the end I'll be more invested in creating absurd fake arguments in my head, if only because I actually get to talk to someone (albeit that someone is myself).

Hi @Magic_Spark! I noticed you like Rarity and you're an artist so I just had to say hello. I can really relate to your story of how you became a fan of MLP. I used to wonder how the show could appeal to such a wide range of people too, until I started watching it. It really does live up to the name 'Friendship is Magic'. Who would've thought that a show about brightly coloured ponies could join so many different people together and, like you said, help people find that magic inside of them? Anyway, your horse is adorable and I hope to see you around!

I didn't think I'd take to Pinkie Pie. I liked her design and being a sucker for cute and pink things I assumed I'd automatically like her character but boy, was I wrong. I started watching the show and she was just...too much. She was so energetic and talkative, it was almost draining, but my opinion of her started to change after 'The Cutie Mark Chronicles' and she's only continued to grow on me throughout the course of the show. I've really gained a new appreciation for her character and her silly antics. Pinkie Pie is probably my second favourite of the Mane 6 now, just after Rarity.

Theory A theory about why Scootaloo has trouble flying
AnchorPoint replied to Mind Scape's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I'm more than a bit biased but I like to go with the theory that Scootaloo is disabled and her disability be something to do with the size of her wings or their muscle strength. I guess it's possible she could be like Fluttershy and naturally have trouble flying but Scootaloo can't even hover for very long, so I don't think that's the case. Age could be a factor too, or it's possible she wasn't taught. The only problem is we've seen ponies her age (and younger) who can fly and surely Rainbow Dash or Twilight would've pointed out problems in her technique or taught her to fly, if need be? Especially since Twilight Time is a thing. Whatever the reason, I hope it's expanded on in the future. -
Hi @Crypty! Always nice to meet a fellow artist Did you draw your profile picture? Because it looks great, and the drill-like horn is very unique! I look forward to seeing you and your art around.

I think it's okay for people to have and express their hopes for the show, provided the discussion remains polite and civil. That said, I do think it's easy to sometimes forget the target audience and then create unrealistic expectations of the creators. Darker plots, for example, may be a bit too much. We've already seen some pretty scary imagery of ponies (like Twilight and Rarity) having kinda-sorta breakdowns and then what was essentially a cult at the start of Season 5 (I can't comment on anything beyond this yet). I'm not sure how much darker things could get before it stops being appropriate for young children, so I definitely think people ask too much on that front.

I'm 24, turning 25 next month. Sometimes I forget and then it hits me and...yikes. I still feel like I should be in my teens or something.

Thank you so much! And yeah, definitely! If not Polly Pockets then it'd be nice to see something similar, like a small collectible collection. Something akin to Re-Ment miniatures/keychains would be amazing.

mega thread Your favourite pony and why?
AnchorPoint replied to Twilight Sparkle ✨'s topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Rarity is my favourite of the Mane 6. She's just a joy to watch with her over-the-top reactions, sassy one-liners and ever-so-slightly snooty attitude. On top of that, I can really relate to Rarity's love of beautiful aesthetics and I always enjoy seeing episodes showcasing her artistic talent both in and outside of dress-making. She looked like a Disney princess-pony in 'Simple Ways' and I can't get enough of seeing her creations. There's a lot more I could say about why Rarity is my favourite. From her subversion of the 'antagonistic fashionista' type trope, to the interesting exploration of social class in a lot of Rarity-centric episodes (and in her goal to become a member of high society), but I'll just say she has a beautiful singing voice and leave it at that. As far as secondary characters go, I really like Big McIntosh but I also really like Scootaloo, and agh, both of them are so great, it's impossible to choose a favourite. -
I used to have a Deviantart account but it's been inactive for such a long time, I regularly post my art on Tumblr and my Facebook page though. I'm new to the forums so I'm not sure if it's okay to post the link to those pages on here, but I go by the name 'SugarCoatedUnicorns' on those if you're interested in checking my non-MLP stuff out If it's allowed I'll also be sure to link one of them in my profile. I'd definitely be interested in doing some other characters, Ginger Ale. Just let me know if you have any ideas/recommendations. I was thinking Celestia and Luna would be interesting.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to you all for such a warm welcome! Oh and that's interesting, FluffyGoat13! I've never been to Rochdale but I traveled to Manchester for a couple of concerts when I was younger. I'm from Durham, so way, way, up North.

I just wanted to share my first lot of MLP fanart (and hopefully any future pieces) in this thread. As the title suggests, they're Polly Pockets featuring the Mane 6, although their rooms aren't 100% accurate. I also use the signature 'SugarCoatedUnicorns' on my art since it's the name of my other art pages (just in case there's any confusion or worries of plagiarism/art theft) I hope you like them!

Hello, it's nice to meet everyone! I'm from a smallish city in the North of England and I'm completely new to the MLP series. I started watching FiM not too long ago and I'm now starting season 5, so I still have quite a lot of catching up to do but I'm looking forward to it! I'm an artist and I mostly create cute vector art in Illustrator (at present I really like designing modern cartoons as retro toys). Making and sharing art via my Tumblr/Facebook pages is one of my main ways to connect with people (since I'm physically disabled and struggle to leave the house often), but I wanted to make more of an effort to personally connect with people who like the same things I do. So, having recently created some MLP fanart, I figured I'd take the plunge and join the forums to share my work and get to know other people.
