  1. Specifically looking for pony artists that is great at executing more realistic styles without making their works sink into uncanny valley for me. Uncanny valley for people who don't know and don't feel like looking it up, refers to the general area on a scale between most human-like to least, where something that seems human but not human enough will generally scare people away. I have found some artists, but just wondering if I can find more people out there.
  2. Not exactly. PNG's are actually smaller if you are dealing with images with areas of solid colors, like pixel art and vectors, because PNG's are designed specifically to compress images like those. JPEG's will destroy the quality of pixel art and vectors (especially vectors) and have a larger file size because the compression used for JPEG's are designed for photos and other images with many gradients. Not all GIF's are animated images, but since PNG's came along, GIF's are generally reserved for animations.
  3. Lolol I seemed to have unwittingly made a blanket statement that was easily shot down.
  4. I'm also a pixel artist There's definitely the pixel work that gives it its crisp look that definitely has its fun appeal to it, but you might surprise yourself with how far you can go with only the pencil tool. Ashbad does bring up a good point if you ask me. While there is definitely some pixel work done, you may want to avoid using the brush tool, or whatever tool you used to create the smooth gradients. < My avatar, as well as Ashbad's avatar, are only done with the pencil tool.
  5. I keep making more and more changes to my avatar and it's frankly getting annoying having to run around updating my avatar in numerous places so often. Any other artists have this issue? =v

Pfft. There's a party happening in a status I posted in October. Two weeks is nothing.

      You know what?

Just b/c of this, I'm gonna go around bumping and rezzing old threads.

  6. Speaking of the older style, I'm not even sure how much I should offer for the older style if people were interested in them, or I want to offer them at all. While it would make more sense to offer less because it takes less effort to make them, I could see it as 'encouragement' to not work on techniques I should be perfecting instead. Eh, I could probably see in the near future a few artists trying their hand with my old style as it's already started to happen, and they'll probably fill in for me.
  7. That will probably do. It only feels so strange being able to take this much money so easily after all those years of unpaid work.
  8. You're probably right that I am not looking outside of my own clique, but the more dissimilar I am to another artist, the more difficult it is to compare. Eh, I'll try that anyways. As for not seeing what the problem is if I can easily adjust my price, I think what I'm concerned with is being flooded at the beginning.
  9. Watch them dishonestly vote low and watch me get trolled Nah, not sure if that's a smart move. The only method I can think of without having to ask the very people who would probably want one to start with is to look at my competitors, but the problem is... I own a monopoly (lol)
  10. Pretty basic economics that I already understand, fyi
  11. If you have never seen my works and want to see my older style, feel free to visit my dA page in my sig. I started an art habit with an intention to improve on an underdeveloped talent, so I would eventually reach a point where I have to stop making more of the same retro-esque stuff and try something new and much more complicated. It was suggested to me by a fellow brony, who happens to be really well-read in pixel-art and wanted to help me out, to use a style that does not necessarily use an outline, and to try out some manual anti-aliasing to soften up my works. My results? That avatar you see to the left. That avatar style takes a lot longer to make than old style I used though because of the extra micro-management of pixels that comes with it, so I'm feeling pretty beat. And for commissioning purposes, how much money are people willing to toss at me for an avatar of this new style? I don't wanna make a wild guess just to find myself swamped and overworked from being flooded.
  12. There's that, but what I was looking for was mainly a quicker way to find exactly what you want instead of sifting through a bunch of stuff that I'm not looking for. I'd like to compare what I'm looking for with a dictionary - it does have everything I need, but it's organized in a way that I know how to find what I want. I do think such a starting point for finding a reference would be pretty useful. Or... I could be being too picky -_-
  13. I dunno if that somebody should be me or somebody else with more time than I do, but it would be very helpful if somebody can get around to organizing a bunch of traced vectors for artists wanting really show-accurate art. I can supposedly browse through a collection of vectors already out there, but there's no obvious way to find the exact pose and perspective you're looking for. Do it for the sake of this fandom, pl0x. It would be extremely useful as the difficulty of finding the exact pose and perspectives, especially since I was told that there are anatomical issues in my works. Since there are functionally an unmanageable number possible poses out there, it may be helpful if the references are divided up into body parts, so we have a section for just head poses, different expressions, leg poses, and so forth. Anyone up to doing this, or was this actually done already but happened to have escaped my half-assed searching skills?

  15. Don't mind how the scootaloo one is far better than the other ones. I got myself a little busy with other crap I needed to make so I visibly improved ever since I made my interpretations of Applebloom and Sweetie Belle. Cutie mark is a purple flame which says that she's a daredevil. dA Pagefor Scootaloo: http://fav.me/d544wly And older works that I updated with a cutie mark: Cutie Mark says that she's a designer of sorts. dA page for Applebloom: http://fav.me/d51qa68 Cutie mark has an eighth note for obvious reasons, but the heart was stuck there as I see her as a potential seductress just like her sister. dA page for Sweetie Belle: http://fav.me/d51ba5j

  18. Also updated the pic using critiques that I received so far. EDIT: And one critique I used wasn't even intentional considering a post that just ninja'd above me. xD
  19. I believe I can live with ominous considering the way I arranged the clouds. So you're saying, make the clouds more lavender and mute out the characters a bit? Sorry if I'm confused... I'm not running on enough sleep.
  20. I prefer to stick with my super-low-color count though Plus I do not want to add more detail as yes, there HAS been instances where I actually toned down the level of detail as too much detail in the wrong places would be too distracting. The original size was only a quarter of what you see. I doubled the width and height of the original pixel art so the pixels are four times larger.
  21. Took the critiques I received so far and tweaked the colors for a ominous feel. Also redid the moon (wasn't even using a reference when I first did it). Older version here: dA page: http://fav.me/d53b371 Contest here: http://prizes.org/Cr...ry-1?tab=detail Definitely the largest pixel art I've ever attempted. I have been very, very indecisive about the choice of colors (THANKFULLY because this is pixel art, I can change the colors on a whim), so this may or may not be changed by the time the deadline comes long. For this contest, I wanted to make the most out of my forté, which is making hair look good, so this ended up being an excuse for making two alicorn OC's as I wanted REALLY voluminous hair like Celestia, but I can't draw her because the contest forbids copyrighted characters being used. Since there was no room for the wings though, they can probably pass off as privileged unicorns like Fleur de Lis. I was gonna make the moon look something like the moon, but then I went crazy and made it look like a completely different celestial object. I like it though WIP versions here: [link] I could use some pointers if humanly possible. There's still time left for this contest for me to make changes. Ashbad, save meh ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
  22. MS paint should have all the basic stuff needed to make pixel art like this, so if you ask me, I'm not that impressed with the fact that it was made in MS paint. Some of the first pixels I made (crazy long time ago) were made in MS paint. What I don't like about MS paint is that it feels so clumsy with little customization like rearranging the UI and such, and MS paint is pretty piss poor at handling pictures with low color depth.
  23. Above user is famous for... being famous?
  24. I believe it was relevant. You're tossing out his explanation as an oversimplification without adding what somebody actually believes instead.
