You have every right to be worried, I agree. I fully expect writing to be the weak area of the G5 movie and don't expect much from writers from TV shows in general these days. Except writers who actually have a love for the thing they're writing for. 

I never see the writing to be an issue. If people want to find the higher meaning in a cartoon show about ponies, then I view that as a losing battle. I only desire consistency. One of the things that angered me a the most about G4 was the retconning they did for my favorite pony Rainbow Dash. One episode she would be nice the next season she would be a jerk. So I not so much care about good episode writing but rather consistent episode writing. Where the main characters learn from their mistakes and grow episode to episode. Personally I could care less about flaws in the "morals of each episode" I would view the "morals of the main characters" to be more important.

What were ponies to me before MLP?

Honestly just animals. My Dad always took me to the "horse races" in Saratoga NY to bet on horses while they raced across the track. And to add to this my grandmother grew up on a farm and her dream was to ride and tame horses. Don't get me wrong, I respected them as animals, and my Dad told me they were both majestic, and smart enough to know what you're thinking. But before MLP I only saw them as a form of enjoyment for us to use as sport or to accomplish their dreams.

Personally I never saw the point in "woke" ideology being translated into cartoon media. Sure it is great to explore new areas that kids will not be familiar with, but at the same time it's kinda like being a review critic for a film like "Sharknado." Some forms of media/cartoon aren't meant to be taken seriously. This is one of the reasons why I never admired MLP episode analysts/reviewers. I felt their battle was a lost cause to pick and pry everything from a single episode of MLP to find some higher meaning. When quite literally: "It's a cartoon about technicolor horses." Sure the top MLP fans would hate on me to suggest that we take a cartoon as a cartoon and nothing else. As humans we always tend to find what the "moral of the story was" but to support my point. What is the moral of the story to a movie like Sharknado which is nothing but satirical comedy? See what I mean? I guess a way I could be proved critically wrong is with Steven Universe. Which of course I have seen and I admired such a cartoon show going to such great lengths to introduce kids to a different mindset than the normality they are taught in their youth. However Steven Universe lost interest with me where MLP did not because Steven Universe let every villain have a redemption arc. Which isn't realistic and is certainly not a part of "woke" ideology. To conclude, I feel some forms of media like cartoons (MLP) should be judged differently than movies such as a famous one that came out this year "Judas and the Black Messiah." Just my 2 cents.
