Alright so my somewhat more detailed thoughts of G5 mlp movie The good -Visuals, The CGI of the characters and the backgrounds are all up there with Disneys works -Comedy, rarely do I laugh with movies but the jokes all land well and are timed well and the comedy just works so well -The characters, while they are nowhere near my beloved mane 6 yet, I think this is a strong start for the new mane 5, Izzy and Sunny steal the show and are just such a treat, and I ship them - The G4 connections, while not filled with references and callbacks the movie is based on g4 and doesn't hide that. It is the foundation of this story -The music, the songs were at worst fun and at best really good, Fit right in is a new top tier hit -The overall first half of the movie from Maretime Bay to the end of Zephyr Heights is so well done, the pacing, writing, and plot setup is all spectacular -The potential, the movie leaves you wanting more, both from these characters and world but also from the mystery of what caused the world to come to the state it is in. -It took g4 like 5 seasons to give a direct reference to AJs dead parents, g5 starts out with it, progress! -Ponies The not as good -The second half of the movie, while still good, isnt as good, the stakes almost feel lower, going from a castle heist to a dancing game, and then stopping someone and their...truck. It works within the context of the movie but I feel its a step down from the first half, again, enjoyable, just not as top tier as the first half -Pipp feels sidelined, she is a main character but feels the least like one. She doesn't get the same development as the others and doesn't move forward, hope the show gives her way more room to breathe -While I like there being open questions and mysteries, the movie doesn't explain much of anything in regards to how the world became so different to g4, no reference to dragons, griffons, etc. -The world feels...smaller, Equestria was full of cities and different ponies and the population could have been millions, but now it seems that the populations of each race are mostly relegated to 3 hubs. again, the show will need to explain more here. -Sprout has a good setup with his angry angry song and his clear motivations but by the end he just has no impact, he feels inconsequential and not threatening -Sprout is neither forgiven nor punished, who knows how the characters feel about him I had to really reach for the not as good stuff as its own thing the movie is awesome, It's paced well, the characters are great, the music and visuals are great, the story is well told and it sets up an awesome future as a fan of G4 the movie is amazing and frustrating, you want so many answers and worry if and when they will come, but also so intrigued to learn more If I weren't an mlp fan I think an 8/10 would be fair. as an mlp fan: 10/10
