    Consider the Date of the Post you are replying to, and in the meanwhile it was revealed that Hasbro has to pay Discovery a large sum for every appearance of G4 characters in any animated media that isn't for Discovery over old contracts, which is the reason as for why they try to avoid it.

    Sorry for the late reply, but technically speaking G3 was the first generation to have 3D Animated content. Both its Pilot and Commercials were frequently 3D Animation: Example.

    You are making a good point actually! Considering that G5 had the bad luck of launching during the corona pandemic, they probably didn't consider ordering more new content precisely because nobody knew when global production would go back to normal, and a company wouldn't order new additional content for a toy advertisment series where ther toys might not even be on shelves for a while.

    Hasbro did the same muliple times during G4 so it doesn't mean much. Considering how Netflix has been going down the drain, they might move the CGI-Series somewhere else under a new name considering they gave Netflix the exclusive rights to MYM and they might not want to state anything that could be a breach of contract.

    If it was for the official merch, we also would have had at least 3 more alicorns in G4 and didn't happen either and we also had Sunny's dad depicted alive in the blindbag advent calender despite being depicted to play after the movie, yet he is still gone.

    That aside, all of this spring's merch has a "crystal" theme so it was expected that something to introduce crystal ponies would happen in the upcoming special.

    Tara Strong already stated multiple times that she won't return in G5 as Twilight Sparkle, and Hasbro isn't known for replacing main cast actors.

    I don't understand what that has to do with anything, you seem to forget the part where professional voice actors are paid per word count, different to celebrities who get just a one-time payment for appearance, and Tara Strong is hailed the most-earning voice actress for a reason and it ain't because she works more than others. If you followed Hasbro's investor calls you would also know that her high price was also the reason why Twilight Sparkle appeared less with each new season, the G5 voice actors cost peanuts in comparison to Tara Strong's ~150USD for a sentence of 4 words. Sure, the cast of the new mane5 isn't nobodies, but they pale in comparison to all the gigs she had so far. Plus considering Hasbro can afford them for talking toys, having them in the series should be no issue budget-wise.

    G3 was also originally in 3D and animated in Maya, but nobody seems to remember that. It also seems like the G5 movie didn't have that much of a high budget for the 3D animation and yet managed to look good, they stated in multiple interviews that they couldn't afford making clothing for the ponies as it would have cost them too much, yet low-budget productions like Paw Patrol can afford those, so I don't see why Hasbro shouldn't invest more into it considering 3D is the way to go for long series nowadays when you want a low allover production cost as you only need to make the models once.

    We are also getting a G5 YouTube series in spring, but who knows what kind of content that will be.

    Because, according to some of the concept staff, Argyle was originally supposed reappear by the end of the movie as he was just locked up in (a secret?) jail by Sprout the whole time, but it was scratched due to time, which gave the assumption that Argyle was only assumed to be dead for the movie due to having been missing for so long.

    All of them are cheaper in the long run than Tara Strong, and you know how long she was Twilight.
