Saw the trailer for Shrek 5, I liked the new visuals, but apparently a lot of people are complaining about them, I personally strongly disagree with them and they sound very exaggerated to me, a lot of them are comparing it with the original design of the 2020 Sonic The Hedgehog movie, saying that it's a similar or the same situation, but that's a lie. With Sonic, they completely changed the character, they made Sonic into something that's he wasn't, removing all of the visual characteristics that made the character iconic, he was blue and that's all, he was nothing like the original.
With Shrek it's different, you can still see that it's Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, etc, they didn't change the characters, they still look like the originals we saw in the previous movies, it's the same characters. What changed was the art style, the direction, the first 4 Shreks had a more realistic approach to the art style, which reflect in the models, while this new movie has a more cartoon approach to it, giving this """Pixar""" feel to the models. This happened with Puss in Boots, in the Shrek movies, he used to have a more realistic approach to his model, while in his latest solo movie they gave him a more cartoon-ish feel, due to the movie's art style, I think for Shrek they're going the same way.
I understand if fans are angry because the art style changed, indeed if they're so used with the art style of the first 4, a change can really bother them, it was a established art style after all, so in this case I understand if fans want the original visuals back.
What I don't understand though is the comparison with Sonic, it makes no sense. Maybe I'm saying this because I'm not really a fan of Shrek, I really like the movies, but I don't love them, so I definitely wouldn't mind such change, though from what I saw in the trailer, I also prefer the original visuals as well. But I can say for sure that Shrek and Sonic cases are completely different from each other, Paramount and Dreamworks had completely different goals when making these designs. I also think these people don't understand the differences between Art style, Designs and Models, maybe they think that it's all the same, but it's not.
What is happening with Shrek Is basically the same thing that happeened to the Mane Six and the rest of the G4 characters in the 2017 MLP movie. The art style and visuals changed, but the character designs remained intact. ~☆

@Silly Druid it's okay, people can dislike or like these movies as they want, they can have their own opinion about them. My problem with what people are saying about the new movie's visuals is that they're saying something that it's not true, while making a unfair comparison with the 2020 Sonic Movie's original design. I'm basically seeing people critcizing a artistic work, while themselves aren't really showing that they understand very much about art, they're confusing Art Style with Designs, Visuals, etc. If they were just saying that they want the art style of the first 4 back, I wouldn't see a problem with it, but I'm only seeing a few saying that.
Maybe my opinion is the true controversial opinion
